T

he initial stage of excavations conducted 30km south of Cairo have revealed the remains of a pyramid and a royal graveyard, imposing new questions about the region’s history. Experts believe that the structure of the uncovered pyramid could be Egypt’s first attempt at building smooth-sided pyramid, which it also bears hieroglyphics stating the name of 3,700-year-old King Emnikamaw. Furthermore, 600m away from the site, within Dahshur’s royal necropolis, a burial chamber was discovered, believed to belong to the king’s daughter. The place also contained a wooden box covered in protective hieroglyphics meant to protect four Canopic jars containing the organs of the princess.
