The next best thing to a crystal ball: Forecasts from The Big Book of Airline Data and Amex GBT’s Hotel Monitor 2025

TORONTO It’s amazing what a deep dive on airline data can uncover.

Want to know which airline has the world’s largest frequent flyer program? It’s almost certainly Delta SkyMiles, with 130 million members.

Speaking of big airlines, Ryanair Group has capitalized on its 40 years of low-cost air travel to become the biggest LCC, with 183.7+ million passengers.

Low-cost carriers carried 29.8% of global traffic in 2024 – but perhaps not surprisingly given their business model, their cut-rate fares only generated 17.3% of global revenue.

American Airlines is pegged as the largest employer among the 120 airlines which disclose total employment. The carrier wrapped up 2023 with 132,100 employees.

And how about this? Worldwide, airlines brought in US$918 billion in revenue in 2023. That’s up more than 32% year over year. And so far it’s looking like the global airline industry will surpass the $1 trillion revenue mark for 2024.

All this intel comes from the latest edition of The Big Book of Airline Data, compiled by the U.S.-based IdeaWorksCompany.

Jay Sorensen, President of IdeaWorksCompany, said The Big Book, now in its fifth edition and

released annually, relies on a number of sources and methods to determine the results for each company, from releases and industry articles, to corporate financial documents.

This year’s Big Book is 105 pages and includes passenger traffic, revenue, employment and frequent flyer membership data for 239 carriers around the world. The full report can be downloaded for free at ideaworkscompany.com/reports/.

Canada and U.S. airlines remain the world’s largest revenue producers with a 29.4% share of global airline revenue.

Travelweek asked Sorensen about reports of sky-high airfares since the pandemic. Will passengers (and travel advisors) be experiencing sticker shock in 2025?

Sorensen cited an IATA chart showing global one-way fares, adjusted for inflation to 2024 values, from 2015 through 2024. In 2015, the average global one-way fare was pegged at US$269.98, dropping steadily down year by year to US$141.50 in 2021, before rebounding a bit and staying steady at US$153.40 in 2022, US$162.17 in 2023 and $157.78 in 2024. “I wouldn’t call the most recent fares sky high, in fact, they are far lower than pre-pandemic times,” said Sorensen.

Travelweek also asked Sorensen for his outlook for air travel demand next year.

“I don’t see 2025 as a particularly strong year for travel demand,” he said. “I have a sense the ‘Roaring 20s’ … have come to a close, and that demand will adjust to traditional levels.”

The other factor that will impact 2025 airline travel is improved aircraft availability “as the industry works it way through the Pratt & Whitney engine debacle,” he added. Issues with the manufacturer’s GTF engine impacted more than 40 airlines around the world.

Noting that Travelweek’s readers are in the Canadian travel industry, we also asked Sorensen about Canada’s airlines, and airline competition in Canada, citing the 2024 demise of LCC Lynx Air and also Canada Jetlines.

“Canada is a so-very-cyclical market. It seems to range from boom to bust, either from the perspective of airlines or travellers,” he said. “Major airlines – especially in the U.S. – have learned how to deploy basic economy fares to soak up traffic that once was carried by LCCs. They’ve done this because of the capacity provided by a ‘forever loss’ of a portion of business traffic since the pandemic.

Major carriers have the good fortune of a mix of revenue produced

by international, domestic and premium categories, along with big revenue from co-branded credit card portfolios. By comparison, LCCs are challenged in all these areas.”

AMEX GBT’S TAKE ON HOTEL RATES

For just about any client booking travel, airfare comes first, but hotel is a close second.

The latest report from Amex GBT suggests global hotel rate increases will moderate in 2025.

Hotel prices around the world are set to increase again in 2025 but at a slower rate than seen in previous years, according to Amex GBT’s Hotel Monitor report.

Forecasting average hotel rates in 80 major cities around the world, Amex GBT predicts that prices will stabilize next year thanks in part to a record number of new properties and an easing in inflationary pressures on hotels.

In North America, New York is likely to see the highest increase in hotel prices in the region at 4.7%, followed by Mexico City (+4.5%) and Las Vegas (+4.2%), according to the report.

Prices in Calgary and Montreal are forecast to rise +3.2%, Ottawa and Toronto +3.1%, and Vancouver having the smallest increase of North American cities (+2.9%).

New York continues to experience higher rate rises partly because of the continued block on the use of short-term rental accommodations.

Globally, cities in India, the world’s fastest growing economy, are predicted to see some of the largest increases in hotel rates in 2025, with 8.5 to 9% rises for cities such as Mumbai and Delhi. Some African destinations are expected to see double-digit rate increases, including Lagos in Nigeria (+13.4%) and the Egyptian capital Cairo (+11.9%) due to high levels of inflation in these countries.

By comparison, China’s main destinations are forecast to have much lower increases including Beijing (+2%) and Shanghai (+1.6%).

Similar to North America, most of the major European cities are set for average hotel rate increases of less than 5%.

Specific to Canada the global report states that “the country has a healthy hotel construction pipeline, seeing a 54% year-on-year increase in projects under construction.”

Amex GBT’s Hotel Monitor report also looks at how technology is transforming hotel operations and guest experiences, helping hotels manage labour shortages.

AI-powered tools streamline tasks like room assignments, allowing staff to focus on guest service, while smart

room technology enables travellers to tailor the in-room environment to their needs and preferences.

Sustainability is another key focus, with access to the relevant data now essential to meeting both traveller and corporate sustainability goals.

The report also notes that extendedstay properties are growing in popularity, with apartment-style hotels popping up more and more. It’s a trend spread across the world and especially booming in Asia, reflecting demand for flexibility and longer trips.

“Stabilization in the travel marketplace is good news for customers,” says Dan Beauchamp, VP Consulting at Amex GBT, “but prices remain high. Travel buyers can benefit from creative sourcing strategies, such as negotiating multiple room types, keeping an open mind on dynamic rates and using TMCs’ negotiated rate programs to boost coverage in secondary and tertiary cities.”

“Our

country is a trove of experiences”: PROMPERU celebrates Canadian success

TORONTO — PROMPERU raised a glass (a Pisco Sour, of course) to the continued success of the destination from the Canadian market at an industry event in Toronto.

Peru’s partners including Air Transat, Intrepid, Exoticca, Goway and The Travel Corporation (TTC), along with trade and consumer media gathered at Chotto Matte to get the latest updates from the popular South American destination.

Jaime Cardenas, Director PROMPERU Canada, welcomed attendees to the event. He was joined by Marvic Gil, who is the Tourism & Country Brand Specialist with PROMPERU Canada.

“Peru is a land of awe-inspiring beauty and distinct heritage,” said Cardenas. “It is a destination that truly encapsulates the essence of exploration and adventure. With its magnificent landscapes, bustling cities, delectable cuisine, and a history that spans millennia, our country is a place where ancient customs intertwine with contemporary tourism experiences.”

New Peru offerings, including tours from some of the tour operators at the Toronto event, include Contiki’s

two new Peru itineraries: The Lima to Machu Picchu Road Trip; and Peru: Lima to Huaraz, and Insight Vacations’ 10-day Peru with Machu Picchu, one of its 11 new women-only guided tours in 2025.

Other new offerings are available with Abercrombie & Kent, with a new Peruvian riverboat setting sail in April 2025. Wildland Trekking is introducing a Women’s Salkantay and Machu Picchu in 2025. And Adventure Canada has announced a brand new seven-day land tour experience in Peru: Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, departing in February 2026.

Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage site that stands as an architectural marvel and a lasting testament to the ingenious Inca civilization, “is undoubtedly one of the gems of Peru,” said Cardenas.

“A visit to this splendid location will transport you back in time, and the sense of amazement you’ll experience is simply ineffable.”

But Peru offers much more than just Machu Picchu, he added. “Our country is a trove of experiences. From the streets of Lima, our capital city with a vibrant culinary scene, to the dry desert landscapes of the Ica region, to the verdant Amazon rainforest teeming with exotic wildlife and extraordinary flora, Peru is a land of contradictions and revelations.”

NONSTOP TO LIMA WITH AIR TRANSAT

Transat’s exclusive nonstop service to Lima from Toronto and Montreal has been up and running for close to a year now.

Air Transat’s Laura Albrow thanked attendees for joining the event and getting all the latest Peru updates. She also awarded the night’s big prize: a roundtrip flight from Toronto to Lima.

“There are so many different reasons why people travel and that’s why Transat made the decision to fly to Peru,” said Albrow. “We are the only airline out of Canada to fly to Lima nonstop with two flights a week from Toronto and two flights a week now from Montreal with a commitment for year-round service.”

Canadians already love U.S. travel but there’s always room for growth: Discover America Day - Canada

TORONTO — Not only is Canadian tourism to the United States good business, it’s also big business.

Some 22.7 million Canadians are expected to visit the U.S. this year, with combined travel spending expected to exceed US$18.2 billion, according to U.S. Consul General Baxter Hunt.

“Canadian travel has bounced back and Canadians are eager to discover new destinations,” said Hunt at Discover America Canada’s breakfast get-together.

The event served as a kick-off for the annual Discover America Day - Canada, held at Arcadian Loft in downtown Toronto. The media event brings consumer and trade writers together with reps from U.S. tourism boards, attractions and more.

Said Hunt: “When Canadians travel to the U.S., they are deepening the people-to-people ties between our two countries, which is one of the

great objectives that we have as a U.S. mission to Canada. They’e also contributing to the U.S. economy and Canadian tourism to the United States, which as you know is big business for the U.S. destinations present here today. It’s a wise decision to invest your promotional dollars in the Canadian market, as it represents the largest source of us tourism revenues.”

Hunt noted that Canadians are experienced U.S. travellers, and they often visit multiple locations.

According to recent data, 45% of Canadians travel to two or three cities per trip, and 11% of them travel to four or more cities. “Canadians take advantage of the proximity and ease of travel between our two nations and our US destinations,” he said.

Canada has more direct, nonstop flights to the United States than any other country, he added, plus LCCs have helped expand routes to new U.S. destinations.

Not only that, but the experience of flying to the U.S. has never been easier thanks to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Pre-Clearance program, Hunt noted.

CBP currently operates within eight Canadian airports with newly announced plans for expansion to Billy Bishop Airport (YTZ).

“Once operational, pre-clearance at Billy Bishop will enable direct routes to more U.S. airports such as LaGuardia and Reagan National. This is an addition to the pre-clearance benefits of travelling through Pearson Airport, which ranks among the top U.S. ports of entry with more than 6 million U.S.-bound passengers annually,” said Hunt.

Pearson Airport also ranked first internationally in the use of mobile passport control, a free mobile app that expedites clearance.

At Discover America Day - Canada, Travelweek met with many tourism boards from across the U.S., to find out all the latest updates. To find out more see Travelweek.ca.

AIRLINES

Canada has expanded its air transport agreement with Australia, allowing for an unlimited number of direct passenger and cargo flights and enhances operational flexibility for each country’s airlines. It also includes access to any point in the other country’s territory. In 2023, Australia was Canada’s 18th largest air travel market, with 534,075 oneway passenger trips. The Canadian government is continually working on new and expanded air transport agreements under the Blue Sky policy. Canada currently has air transport agreements or arrangements covering more than 125 countries.

Porter Airlines will operate its largest-ever combined winter schedule from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and Toronto Pearson for the coming 2024-25 season. The carrier’s schedule includes up to 180 daily flights from both YYZ and YTZ, to 34 destinations. From Pearson, Porter will operate up to 86 daily flights, a 19% increase from last winter’s schedule. With this expanded schedule, Porter has become the second-largest Canadian carrier between Canada and the U.S. at Toronto Pearson. At Billy Bishop, Porter continues to offer up to 94 daily flights to 15 destinations.

DESTINATIONS

Intrepid Travel has launched an emergency appeal through its not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, to support impacted communities following extreme rain and severe flooding in areas across eastern and southern Spain. All funds raised through the appeal, up to Cdn$46,000, will be matched by the Intrepid Foundation and will go directly to Intrepid NGO partner and grassroots organization Casa Caridad. Meanwhile all Intrepid tours are continuing to operate as scheduled and the company is closely monitoring updates and guidance from local authorities to ensure traveller safety.

TECH

IATA will offer digital currencies in the financial settlement systems it uses for the airline industry. “With the increasing use of digital currencies, it is imperative that IATA’s industry financial settlement systems adapt to support the needs of those using our services,” said IATA’s Muhammad Albakri. The first digital currency to be offered is the digital Renminbi, which will be available in the China BSP by the end of 2024. IATA is also examining the potential to offer other digital currencies in its settlement systems based on the needs and requirements of the industry.

“APPR is a forced insurance policy,” says airline CEO at

Aviation Day Canada

OTTAWA IATA and the National Airlines Council of Canada (NACC) joined forces to host Aviation Day Canada 2024 in Ottawa.

The day-long event brought together some 250 representatives from across the Canadian aviation industry.

Keynote speaker, Minister of Transport Anita Anand, noted that aviation is a vital element in Canada’s transportation system, and that from a government perspective the key elements that require further development include enhancing the supply chain resilience, improving productivity and economic contribution of the sector, along with expanding accessibility.

IATA noted in its conference recap that Canada’s current Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR) was not only singled out as a major concern during the Airline CEO Roundtable – which brought together the CEOs of Air Canada, Air Transat, Canadian North and WestJet – but also during other panels.

In the words of one CEO, “APPR is a forced insurance policy which airlines need to sell to customers if they want it or not.”

Another CEO compared APPR to being offered $10 by a bus driver in the nation’s capital as delay compensation when having only paid $3 for the ride. “How long before the local transport company would need to raise the fares?”

APPR was also a topic of discussion by both IATA and NACC during their presentations and remarks, along with the issue of high operating costs in Canada.

IATA notes that Canadian airports pay crown rent to the government, “money which is not reinvested into the aviation value chain. This is reflected in the high portion of taxes and fees which make up the total costs of an airlines ticket in Canada. Here again the industry called on the government to work with sector to consider options to lower these costs.”

HOW LONG BEFORE THE LOCAL TRANSPORT COMPANY WOULD NEED TO RAISE THE FARES?

German National Tourist Office in Canada closing its doors

TORONTO The German National Tourist Office (GNTO) in Canada is closing at the end of 2024 due to budget cuts affecting the German National Tourist Board’s (GNTB) operations in 2025.

GNTO Director Anja Brokjans shared the sad announcement.

“This difficult decision involves the closure of six offices worldwide, including ours here in Canada,” said Brokjans.

She added: “I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you. Your support and collaboration have been truly invaluable in helping us share the magic of Germany with Canadian travellers. We couldn’t have achieved what we did without you, and we’re so grateful for everything we’ve accomplished together.

“Once again, thank you for being such a wonderful partner. It’s been an absolute pleasure working with you.”

Air Canada increasing PVG flights, resuming daily PEK service

MONTREAL Air Canada is making it easier for Canadians to get to China with the resumption of daily service to Beijing and an increase in Shanghai flights.

Both operating from the airline’s Vancouver (YVR) hub, the nonstop services reflect the importance of these markets in Air Canada’s global network, says Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President-Revenue and Network Planning at Air Canada.

“With the investments we have made at our YVR hub linking Air Canada’s extensive North American network to our international flights, travelling between North America and Asia is convenient and compelling for leisure and business travellers alike. We look forward to welcoming our customers onboard our flights,” says Galardo.

Daily service from YVR to Beijing Capital International Airport (BEK) begins Jan. 15, 2025 aboard 787 Dreamliners.

Flights to Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) will increase to daily service beginning on Dec. 7. Flights from YVR to PVG currently operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays aboard 787 Dreamliners, with return flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Porter has new seasonal U.S. routes from Montreal, Ottawa

TORONTO Porter Airlines recently inaugurating three new seasonal routes from both Ottawa and Montreal to the U.S.

Nonstop service to/from Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) from Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) kicked off this past weekend, making Porter the only carrier to operate the YOW-LAS route.

Daily nonstop service between YUL and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) also starts this weekend. Marking Porter’s first route that directly connects Montreal and Florida.

“The addition of these routes builds on our commitment to expand our Eastern Canada network. Passengers in Ottawa and Montreal now have even more options to choose from when planning their winter travel, and they will receive an elevated economy experience that brings back the joy of flying,” said Kevin Jackson, president, Porter Airlines.

The addition of these routes complements the airline’s existing service between Toronto Pearson-Las Vegas and Fort Lauderdale, added Jackson. Connecting flights are also available to/from Ottawa and Montreal via Toronto Pearson, and globally through partner airlines.

Trevello’s going public with a listing on the TSE Venture exchange

TORONTO Trevello is going public as Trevello World Holdings Inc.

The host agency, now with some 1,000 Independent Travel Provider (ITP) members, is planning a public listing on the TSE Venture exchange.

Zeina Gedeon, CEO of Trevello’s Canadian operating company, issued a statement ahead of the move.

The announcement “marks a significant milestone in Trevello’s journey,” said Gedeon.

“Our company will be transitioning from a private to a public company by merging with an existing public company: M3 Capital Corp. M3 Capital Corp is a shell company currently listed on the Toronto Venture Exchange. It was formed and structured with the intention to merge with a company that the founding shareholders believe represent a major opportunity for the future,” said Gedeon.

She added: “We are thrilled that Trevello is the best fit for them and look forward to the next stage of our journey.”

“THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT”

Gedeon’s statement noted that after the approval of the exchange and closing of the transaction, Trevello will become the majority owner (97%) of the public company, and move into the future as a publicly traded company.

Trevello founder Morris Chia will continue to be the majority shareholder and lead the holding company. Zeina is a minority

shareholder and will continue to lead the company’s Canadian division.

The public company will be renamed Trevello World Holdings Inc.

In July 2024 Trevello announced its intent to expand into the U.S., with travel industry veteran Elizabeth Crabill joining the team as Trevello World Holdings’ CEO.

Gedeon is Chief Operating Officer of Trevello World Holdings.

“As we embark on this exciting journey, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your unwavering support and dedication to Trevello,” said Gedon in her statement. “Thank you for your continued support and commitment to Trevello’s success.”

The deal’s letter of intent expires on Nov. 29. Chia is a director, officer and significant shareholder of both M3 and Trevello, meaning the transaction is not at arm’s length and therefore ‘Majority of the Minority’ approval of the deal will be required from the disinterested shareholders of M3.

A meeting of shareholders of M3 will be held prior to the closing of the deal to approve the transaction, the continuance, the consolidation, the name change, a new stock option plan and electing the board of directors.

Jamaica welcomes more capacity from Canada this winter

TORONTO Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett said he’s pleased that Jamaica will have more airline seats out of Canada for the 2024/2025 winter season.

The capacity boosts, which range from 62% to 109%, are with Sunwing, Flair and Caribbean Airlines.

“This increase in seats over what is gearing up to be a busy winter season is a testament to the confidence our partners have and the demand for the destination. As our second source market we are strategically engaging our tourism partners to grow arrivals to 500,000 by 2025 and this announcement perfectly aligns with our goals,” said Minister Bartlett.

Globally Jamaica is projected to welcome over 4.2 million total arrivals, with US$4.3 million in earnings.

Bartlett noted that Sunwing will see a significant 62% increase, from 12,852 to 20, 979 in Montreal, which reflects an additional 8,127 seats. In Ottawa, there will be a 77% increase with a move from 3,402 to 6,048, for an additional 2,646 seats.

“Airlift continues to be a critical strategic focus in increasing arrivals to Jamaica and we are grateful for our airline partners who see the value in adding seats over this busy period. Jamaica remains attractive and top of mind as a top destination,” said Donovan White, Director of Tourism.

The Toronto - Kingston route with Flair will see a 109% increase, from 6,936 seats to 14,505 seats. Meanwhile Caribbean Airlines will increase its capacity from 8,320 to 12,000 seats, a 44% increase.

Air Canada posts $2.04 billion profit for Q3

MONTREAL Air Canada reported a third-quarter profit of $2.04 billion, up from $1.25 billion in the same quarter last year, as its operating revenue edged slower.

Operating revenue for the quarter totalled $6.11 billion, down from $6.34 billion in the same quarter last year.

In its outlook, the airline says it now expects its capacity measured by available seat miles for 2024 to be up about 5% from 2023 compared with earlier expectations for growth of 5.5 to 6.5%.

It also says it now expects its adjusted cost per available seat mile to be up about 2% from 2023, compared with earlier expectations for growth of 2.5 to 3.5%. Air Canada’s adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization for 2024 is expected to total about $3.5 billion, up from earlier guidance for between $3.1 billion and $3.4 billion.

“Air Canada reported solid results for the third quarter on key metrics, with operating revenues of $6.1 billion and operating income of $1 billion. Adjusted EBITDA of $1.5 billion and our adjusted earnings per share of $2.57 were both ahead of market expectations. We delivered on our

ongoing operational improvement program, with quarterly on-time performance rising eight percentage points over the same period in 2023. I thank all our employees for their care and dedication in safely moving nearly 13 million customers in the quarter, including our Olympic and Paralympic athletes to the summer games in Paris,” said Air Canada’s President and Chief Executive, Michael Rousseau.

“Summer is our peak season and this year our pilot contract negotiations added complexity. We proactively offered options and flexibility to customers, and I am proud that we concluded a mutually beneficial agreement without significant disruption to customers and with a contained revenue impact. I thank our customers for their loyalty and reiterate our promise to keep providing industry-leading products and services to them,” he added.

Rousseau said the demand environment remains favourable. “We have adjusted our full year guidance and underlying assumptions to account for the evolution of the fuel price environment and for certain contract-related adjustments. We are delivering on our commitments and are confident in our future,” he said.

Scenic unveils Antarctica & Arctic ultra-luxury voyages

VANCOUVER Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours has announced an array of extraordinary experiences for its Scenic Eclipse ultra-luxury voyages to Antarctica and the Arctic over the next three years.

The early season Antarctica voyages, running from October to early December 2024, 2025 and 2026, will feature seven departures equipped with two helicopters. These excursions allow guests to explore the snow-covered island, accessible only by air after navigating the Weddell Sea.

In December 2024 and 2025, the Scenic Eclipse II will also venture to East Antarctica, allowing guests to trace the routes of historic explorers like Mawson and Scott. This exclusive voyage includes a complimentary helicopter shuttle to visit the remote Mawson’s Huts, a historic site dating back to 1911-1914.

For those seeking Arctic adventures, Scenic has unveiled a 16-day ‘Norwegian Fjords & Crossing the Arctic Circle’ itinerary set for 2025. This journey will take travellers around the Svalbard Archipelago, known for its breathtaking fjords and, potentially, the mesmerizing Northern Lights, depending on conditions. In August 2026, guests can also join a special themed departure to witness a solar eclipse.

More than two dozen of Goway’s travel partners took part in Goway’s Africa & Middle East Gathering 2024. East Africa, particularly Kenya, is booming, and South Africa is big for groups. Seen here are Goway National Account Manager, Rares Dumitru (left) with Groups Specialist, Jennifer Murray and Trade Training Manager, ‘Professor’ Don Forster.

“Scenic Eclipse uniquely blends ultra-luxury with the pinnacle of ship design and polar expedition technology,” said Captain James Griffiths, General Manager of Ocean Operations at Scenic Group. “Delivering an unparalleled discovery experience with the most advanced, efficient yachts in the industry, we take immense pride in our exceptional crew and expert polar Discovery Team, who consistently deliver world-class service.”

Scenic has established itself as a pioneer in ultra-luxury polar exploration, featuring the only expedition cruise ships equipped with onboard helicopters and a custom-designed submersible. Each journey is complemented by all-inclusive activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and Zodiac cruises, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of these remote regions.

The Scenic Eclipse boasts a Polar Class 6 rating, state-of-the-art technology, and an impressive guestto-crew ratio of nearly 1:1, catering to a maximum of 228 guests in luxurious accommodations. Onboard amenities include multiple dining venues, a whiskey bar with over 130 selections, and a wellness-focused Senses Spa.

WeTravel, Intrepid launch online course ‘Rethinking Tour Development’

TORONTO WeTravel and Intrepid Travel have teamed up for a new online course for the trade.

The new course, called ‘Rethinking Tour Development’, is designed to equip travel professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to develop tourism products that are impactful, scalable and sustainable, say the two companies. WeTravel bills itself as the leading bookings and payments platform for multiday travel businesses, while certified B Corp Intrepid is known as one of the world’s largest adventure travel companies.

Travel businesses must meet the demand with products that aren’t strictly good for business, but good for the world, says Erica Kritikides, GM, Global Product at Intrepid Travel.

Kritikides leads the course, which she says provides essential guidance for multi-day tour operators with the knowledge they need to create immersive travel offerings, all while maintaining a focus on sustainability and market relevance.

Agents seen ‘rolling’ with St. Kitts and celebrity chef Massimo Capra

MISSISSAUGA A lucky group of travel advisors had the chance recently to rub shoulders – and roll gnocchi – with celebrity chef Massimo Capra, all in support of St. Kitts.

Held at Capra’s Kitchen in Mississauga, Ontario, the fifth instalment of St. Kitts Tourism Authority’s ‘Savour St. Kitts’ culinary event was a resounding success, reaching maximum capacity.

Participating travel advisors were able to cook Kittitian-inspired dishes side-by-side Chef Capra, who led six interactive cooking stations. Dishes included oxtail potato gnocchi, fresh seafood salad and spiced chicken.

“St. Kitts is really emerging as a foodie hotspot right now because there is this incredible array of immersive culinary experiences on

offer,” said Paul Minich, Marketing Consultant for the St. Kitts Tourism Authority in Canada. “Today’s traveller wants to explore beyond their resort and dive into the local flavours and dining experiences they can have. St. Kitts is a hidden gem in this regard and people are truly amazed when they arrive and quickly discover the diverse food culture there.”

To help Canadians and travel advisors learn more about the island’s culinary offerings, St. Kitts created the Savour St. Kitts guide as a print and digital resource that celebrates its vibrant epicurean scene. From the island’s best venues for gourmet fare, to cocktail bars, beachside experiences and fine rums, the guide is a trusted resource for advisors when planning the ultimate St. Kitts getaway for their clients.

“It really touches on everything a food lover needs to know to savour the island,” added Minich.

Stewart Travel Group donates $38,700 to Hospice PEI

SAINT-JEAN-DE-LOSNE,

FRANCE

Stewart Travel Group has made a significant contribution to Hospice PEI, returning from two consecutive river cruise charters in France with a cheque for $38,700.

This generous donation was made possible by nearly 250 cruise guests who participated in the week-long trips, hosted by the company’s coowners, Travis and Paula Stewart.

The cruises took place aboard AmaWaterways’ AmaCello and featured a lineup of exclusive musical entertainment. The first week showcased Jim Cuddy of Blue

Rodeo, alongside fiddler Anne Lindsay and Cuddy’s sons, Sam Polley and Devin Cuddy. Juno award-winner Rose Cousins also performed. The second week brought rock and blues legend Sass Jordan to the stage, accompanied by renowned Canadian musicians Derek Sharp, Steve Marriner and Chris Caddell.

Guests had the opportunity to contribute to the fundraiser by purchasing chances to win intimate dinners with the artists and a pair of river cruises for two, donated by AmaWaterways.

Travis Stewart expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating, “Our guests came together in such a meaningful way, showing the true spirit of community and compassion. We feel privileged to

provide experiences that bring joy and create lasting positive impacts back home in PEI.”

Paula Stewart, who has volunteered with Hospice PEI for over 20 years, conveyed her heartfelt appreciation for the guests’ generosity. “The impact of these donations will be felt across our community,” she said. “It fills my heart to see our clients come together to make such a significant difference.”

Nancymarie Arsenault, Executive Director of Hospice PEI, highlighted the importance of Stewart Travel Group’s support, saying, “Their dedication over the years and their support of our care recipients means more than words can express.”

There are plans for another sailing with Blue Rodeo on the Danube.
