“Determination, commitment and pure grit”: Why travel advisors deserve so much gratitude on this Travel Agent Day
By Kathryn Folliott
TORONTO — Just like everything else, this year’s Travel Agent Day is unlike any other.
And just as they always have, Canada’s travel advisors are showing why they’re so deserving of praise and recognition from their leadership teams, and from suppliers, on this Travel Agent Day 2022.
Travel advisors have always worked wonders, but no more so than during the pandemic. And that’s what makes this Travel Agent Day even more special.
“The past two years have really shown the determination, commitment to excellence and pure grit that travel advisors and travel industry personnel have. To have survived this pandemic to this point is an incredible feat,” says Jamie Milton, co-owner of Uniglobe Carefree Travel in Saskatoon, SK.
If that travel agency name rings a bell, it’s because it was Uniglobe Carefree Travel’s Colleen Lorenzen who started Travel Agent Day back in 2011, as a way to recognize the hard-working team of agents in her agency, and to encourage other
agency managers and owners, and suppliers, to do the same.
Says Milton: “Colleen always believed in the value of travel advisors and what they offered to the travelling public. She knew that they carried a special skill set and shouldn’t be lumped in with admin assistants day, or other such holidays. She always believed they deserved their own day to be recognized and she worked tirelessly to ensure they received it. We are grateful for her vision and her drive to see travel advisors recognized for all they do. Although Colleen has now left the travel industry, her legacy will continue on.”
SUPPLIERS SHOW THE LOVE
There’s a long list of incentives for travel advisors this Travel Agent Day.
Here’s a look at just two of those deals, with many more to come. Watch for a list of TA Day promotions on May 4 on Travelweek.ca and in Travelweek Daily.
One top tour operator, Collette, is celebrating the hard work and commitment of travel advisors with the opportunity to secure big booking incentives during the
month of May. Agents will earn $50 toward the ‘Travel Advisor Appreciation Booking Incentive’ program by securing two or more bookings for travel in 2022.
“On behalf of the entire team, we want to thank the dedicated travel advisors for their hard work and perseverance over the past year,” said Jaclyn Leibl-Cote, President and Chief Brand Officer of Collette.
Another steadfast partner, Sunwing, is offering agents double the STAR Agent Rewards Points on all Sunwing vacation packages booked on May 4, 2022, for travel up to April 30, 2023.
“From all of us at Sunwing, we wish the entire agent community a wonderful Travel Agent Appreciation Day! We are incredibly grateful for our agency partners, whose dedication and passion for making our mutual customers’ vacation dreams come true is evident every day,” says the tour operator.
Suppliers including airlines, tour operators, cruise lines and more have plenty of perks for travel agents this week.
But sometimes the expressions of thanks and gratitude mean just as much as the deals.
“The travel advisor community is invaluable and Uplift is honoured to work with the best travel agencies and advisors in Canada. Their professionalism and commitment to the industry and their clients has been so evident throughout the past couple of years. A huge congratulations and thank you from all of us at Uplift. We appreciate each and every one of you,” says Uplift’s Managing Director, Commercial, Denise Heffron.

“RELATIONSHIPS WITH
SUPPLIERS
HAVE ALWAYS BEEN VITALLY IMPORTANT”
For any suppliers wondering how best to thank their travel advisor partners, any special gestures are appreciated, from bonus commission offers, to bonus points towards free nights, to recognition on social media, or emails, treats or goodies sent to the agency.
“All are appreciated and our team of advisors definitely feel the love on Travel Agents Day,” says Milton. “It’s always special to be recognized for the value we bring.”
The pandemic both solidified - and in some cases, due to two years of extraordinarily challenging circumstances - strained relations between retailers and suppliers. We asked Milton if suppliers who may have made some wrong steps during the pandemic now have a chance build that trust back up.
“Yes, I do,” said Milton. “I think all suppliers were under enormous pressure over the past two years and experienced unique challenges in terms of staffing levels and the agent experiences. Our relationships with suppliers have always been vitally important and we recognize that we have not been operating in ‘normal’ times and that these experiences will improve as we move towards the future.”
AGENTS ARE “OWNING THEIR WORTH”
Just as important as recognition from suppliers, it would seem, is
CLIENTS WHO NORMALLY FEEL COMFORTABLE BOOKING SHORT OR EASY TRIPS ONLINE, NOW COME TO US.
the recognition that travel advisors are giving themselves.
The pandemic years have more than shown agents their own worth, says Heather Baker, National Senior Membership Sales Manager for Independent by Flight Centre.
“If there was one bright spot to come out of the recent challenges it is seeing so many agents openly acknowledging the value in their expertise, knowledge, and service,” Baker tells Travelweek. That includes the rising number of agents opting to charge service fees, she says.
“Pre-pandemic, many travel agents used the fact that they do not charge travel management fees as a selling feature, or even promoted the idea that ‘it doesn’t cost any more to book with an agent’,” says Baker. “They have now done a complete 180 on that strategy. They have implemented fees with no qualms about declining bookings where clients do not want to pay that fee.”
Baker adds: “I think what makes this Travel Agent Day so special is the number of agents that are really ‘owning’ their worth, feeling confident in quoting and charging that fee. They are banking on themselves; what they bring to the table and the knowledge that they should feel confident attaching a price tag to their services.”
The past few years have been unlike anything anyone has ever seen in our industry, “and I think we would all be thrilled to expunge the
words ‘unprecedented’ and ‘pivot’ from our vocabularies,” she jokes.
And in the days leading up to Travel Agent Day and May 4, “here at Independent by Flight Centre we have also noticed the genuine joy in our agents now that they are back doing what they love most: working with clients to plan unforgettable trips. That joy is contagious. Hearing them excitedly share news of their latest bookings, offering tips to each other as they get back into their groove with bookings, and eagerly updating themselves on the latest information in the industry, it is music to our ears.”
At Uniglobe Carefree Travel, as at travel agencies across Canada, bookings are coming in left, right and centre. The best part? “We have had more inquiries from travellers who have never used a travel agent, than ever before,” says Milton. “Clients who normally feel comfortable booking short or easy trips online, now come to us to assist and offer advice. The world has changed and navigating travel requires the expertise we offer.”
This year more than ever, agents everywhere deserve to be celebrated, on Travel Agent Day and everyday, adds Baker. “We always knew our industry was resilient, COVID really put that belief to the test and so many travel agents rose to the challenge.”

no economic recovery without Canada – full stop,” says Los Angeles
By Cindy Sosroutomo
TORONTO — At first glance, you wouldn’t think Toronto and Los Angeles have very much in common.
The two cities are in different countries. One is known for its harsh Canadian winters, the other is blessed with year-round sun and temperate weather. But according to Adam Burke, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board, the two metropolises are more alike than one may think, which is why Toronto was one of two cities to be included in the organization’s Canadian roadshow last week.
Speaking with Travelweek following an in-market event at Toronto’s Love Child Social House, and ahead of the Board’s Vancouver stop, Burke says that Toronto and Los Angeles both share a natural affinity for arts and culture, a fanatical devotion to its respective sports teams, as well as the distinction of being two of the most diverse and inclusive communities in the world.
“Canada has always been one of our top performing markets – in 2019, it ranked among the top three globally for visitation. The simplest way I can put it is, there is no economic recovery in L.A. without Canada – full stop,” says Burke. “If you go back to 2019 alone, over 775,000 Canadians, which is a record number, contributed over US$410 million to our local economy. So when you have almost half a billion dollars of economic impact, it’s so critical that we roll out the red carpet and welcome back Canadians.”
Recovery will be a slow burn, adds Burke, noting that it will take some time for Los Angeles to return to pre-pandemic numbers. But the Canadian market, buoyed by Canada’s newly eased travel
restrictions and increased airlift (Canada’s major airlines have already returned to L.A., including Air Transat, which will launch Montreal service on May 16), is already seeing some major gains.
“This year alone, we expect to be about two-thirds of the way back in terms of Canadian arrivals,” says Burke. “And by next year, we expect to pretty much be fully recovered, which is massively important to us.”
NEW HOTELS & ATTRACTIONS
Los Angeles didn’t just sit back and rest on its laurels during the pandemic, says Burke. In fact, the city offers more things to do now than before the pandemic as a result of major capital improvements. One of the most notable new offerings is the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, regarded as the largest museum in the U.S. devoted to the arts, sciences and artists of moviemaking.
For sports enthusiasts, Los Angeles welcomed this year its first professional women’s soccer team – the Angel City Football Club –owned by a bevy of celebrities like Natalie Portman, Eva Longoria, Mia
Hamm and Serena Williams.
And as for accommodations, in 2021 alone, Los Angeles added a “mind-boggling” 2,100 new hotel rooms, something that’s practically unheard of in the middle of a global pandemic, says Burke.
A MESSAGE FOR TRAVEL AGENTS
Now more than ever, the role of destination organizations like L.A. Tourism and travel agents have become even more important, says Burke, with travellers looking for “a trusted source that will provide accurate and timely information, and absolute expertise on what to expect from a destination.” Similar to how travellers are heading to L.A. Tourism’s website for help (“Our website traffic has gone up exponentially,” says Burke), so too are they turning to travel agents for expert advice.
“No one wants to go to a theme park and not be informed of what the requirements are. So as a result, we’ve seen the role of travel advisors take on even more prominence and I think that’s going to be here to stay,” says Burke.

very excited about welcoming Canadians back”: Australia is ready
By Kathryn Folliott
TORONTO — All the work Tourism Australia has done to keep Down Under top-of-mind with Canadians means travellers in this market are now a “primed audience” for Australia travel promotions and trip ideas, says Chris Allison, Acting General Manager North America, Tourism Australia.
And there’s more good news. The high affinity Canadian travellers have always had for Australia is still there, even after Australia’s two-year long pandemic closure.
“Canadian intent to visit Australia is back at pre-pandemic levels,” said Allison. “We’re very excited about welcoming Canadians back.”
Heading up the recent Toronto stop for the ‘Australia on Tour: North America’ sales mission, Allison was joined by Air Canada’s Managing Director, Sales Planning and Effectiveness, Tim Liu, plus Steve Paganelli with TripAdvisor, and Mattew Cameron Smith, CEO of Australia’s Voyages Indigenous Tourism, for a panel discussion on all things Australia, from Canadian travel trends to lift to new hotels.
THREE YEARS OF CHALLENGING TIMES
Australia had only just recovered from the devastating 2019 - 2020 bushfire season when the pandemic hit.
Now, after almost three years of extreme challenges for companies reliant on inbound tourism, there’s a newfound resilience in Australia’s tourism sector. “You just had to get it done,” said Cameron Smith, reflecting on the back-to-back crises.
Like so many destinations, Australia focused on promoting travel to its own residents during the pandemic. And just like in Canada, with so much land to explore and new places to discover, the strategy worked as well as it could.
But as Cameron Smith says, “we can survive on domestic tourism but we can’t recover until international tourism flows.”
Australia reopened with much fanfare and celebration on Feb. 21, 2022. Fully vaccinated international travellers can enter the country quarantine-free.
Cameron Smith says visitors may find that the quality of their Australia vacation, already high to begin with, is even better post-pandemic: “It made us a better industry.”
RESTORED LIFT WITH AIR CANADA
Air Canada’s Liu offered the latest updates on Air Canada’s flights to Australia.
“Demand has been very strong” since Australia’s Feb. 21, 2022 reopening, he said.
Air Canada will have 10 flights per week between Sydney and
Vancouver this summer, plus four weekly flights at the height of the season to Brisbane. Air Canada works closely with Virgin Australia for connecting flights, Liu added.
He also said Air Canada is working on restoring its service to Melbourne.
MORE THAN 1,200 NEW HOTEL ROOMS
Tourism Australia’s Allison notes that Canada has always been a strong market for Australia.
Now, safety and security are understandably top priorities for Canadian travellers, and that works well for Australia. “I think Canadian people appreciate how Australia has managed the pandemic, because it’s similarly to how Canada has managed the pandemic,” he said.
Asked about what’s new in the country, Allison says that tourism operators made good use of the pandemic downtime. “Despite being in survival mode, it’s been an innovative time,” he said.
More than 1,200 new hotel rooms have opened in Australia over the past two years. New hotel developments include new projects from W and Ritz-Carlton.

Air Canada’s Q1 2022 revenues more than triple Q1 2021
MONTREAL — Air Canada has posted operating revenues of $2.573 billion - or about three-and-a-half times first quarter 2021’s operating revenues - for the first quarter of 2022.
The company’s Q1 2022 operating loss of $550 million compares to an operating loss of $1.049 billion in the first quarter of 2021.
Meanwhile advance ticket sales grew about $1.2 billion in Q1 2022 from year-end 2021.
Air Canada has also increased its Airbus A321XLR order by four to 30 aircraft.
Michael Rousseau, President and CEO of Air Canada, notes that the substantial year-over-year improvement in Air Canada’s Q1 results “is clear evidence that a recovery is underway.”
While the start of 2022 was negatively impacted by the omicron variant and travel restrictions, Air Canada quickly rebounded in March 2022 right after Canada’s first wave of eased border measures, including the downgraded travel advisory, took effect.
Air Canada’s passenger ticket sales in March 2022 were more than 90% of March 2019 levels, notes Rousseau, “a leading indicator to much stronger 2022 second and third quarter results.”
And Aeroplan air redemption bookings in the quarter exceeded those of the same quarter in 2019 by 19%. Relaunched in November 2020, Aeroplan saw the highest new member acquisitions and redemptions in a quarter, and generated third-party gross billings exceeding first quarter 2019 levels by 21%, said Rousseau.
Air Canada is rapidly adapting for the post-pandemic world, including the additional Airbus A321XLRs, he adds. Air Canada is also focused on protecting and growing its market share as new entrants launch: “We are responding to the evolving competitive landscape through our Rise Higher strategy to elevate all aspects of our business, particularly as it relates to the customer experience.”
Rousseau adds: “Given pent-up travel demand, the demonstrated loyalty of our customers, and the expected further removal of travel-related government restrictions, Air Canada anticipates its recovery will gain momentum through the balance of 2022 and beyond.”
Growth for Virtuoso even during pandemic: 20,000+ advisors worldwide
TORONTO — Virtuoso recently kicked off a return to in-person events in Toronto with a day and half of networking between 92 advisors and 60 partners.
“I don’t think there’s ever been a better and more exciting time to be in the industry. I have never seen so much pent-up demand and I have never seen so much enthusiasm,” says Una O’Leary, General Manager, Virtuoso Canada. “Even after the pandemic, I’m very proud to tell you that we still have over 20,000 advisors worldwide working under the Virtuoso brand. And that number actually increased during the pandemic.”
According to Virtuoso, the company now has 1,200 worldwide agencies in 50 countries, just over 2,000 supplier partners, and sales from its network are between US$25-$30 billion. The business is also becoming more global with 45% of agents now located outside of the United States.
Julie Golding joins Club Med as new BDM-Quebec
Club Med has welcomed Julie Golding as its new Business Development Manager for Quebec. Golding, who joins fellow BDM Ariana Brouillette who covers Quebec and Ottawa, previously spent 14 years working for tour operators and hotels in Quebec. Says Jacinda Lowry, National Sales Director of Club Med Canada: “Julie’s strong expertise in tourism industry and business development will help us achieve our ambitions and growth goals. We are delighted to have Julie as a member of our team during this period of great rebound and to accompany our travel partners in the Quebec market.” On joining Club Med, Golding says: “I am thrilled to be back in the tourism industry and work for a renowned brand and leader in the industry. It’s an exciting new chapter for me.” Golding can be reached at Julie.golding@clubmed.com.
“We haven’t wasted the pandemic at Virtuoso, we knew for a long time that we really needed to improve our global capacity and capability. The appointment of O’Leary and the development of her team is to make sure we have global consistency, but also be able to design it around the Canadian market,” says Michael Londregan, SVP, Global Operations.
Virtuoso now has general managers in key locations around the world including Canada, Australia/ New Zealand, Asia, Europe and Latin America. The general managers ensure that the Virtuoso brand fits conditions in the local market for members, partners and travellers.

In Canada, Virtuoso boasts almost 2,500 advisors, which is up 11% since 2019. This will also allow its data collection and research to become more granular and region-specific.
Globally, Virtuoso research has identified three major trends for travellers this year:
• Going Big! This is the trend of making up for lost time or revenge travel. Virtuoso has seen a 76% increase in ultraluxe spending.
• Celebration Travel. Travellers are celebrating missed milestones by reconnecting with their family with multi-generational travel to Mexico and the Caribbean in particular.
• Conscious Comeback. 82% of travellers say that the pandemic has made them want to travel more responsibly.
When does Virtuoso expect travel to return to pre-pandemic levels?
Estimates range from the end of 2023 for China, to later in 2024 for some other markets including Canada. But promising signs are already emerging. For example, in Canada this past February, sales reached 85% of 2019 levels, while in March they surpassed 2019 sales and reached 102%.
In a recent survey, 71% of travellers are already booked for 2022, representing a 300%+ year over year increase.
“The outlook for 2022 looks really great. The lifting of restrictions
in March is being reflected in the sale numbers, so this is really positive and we’re seeing a lot of optimism in the market,” says O’Leary. “It’s frankly difficult to get a hold of some of our members now as they’re very busy and their phones are ringing off the hook.”
A final note, research shows that hotel rates have gone up as much as 104% within in Canada and 91% globally compared with during the pandemic.
Air Transat, WestJet launch their transatlantic codeshare
TORONTO — Air Transat and WestJet have officially launched their new transatlantic codeshare.
The two airlines first announced their plans to team up with a codeshare agreement back in November 2021. The news came seven months after the deal between Transat and Air Canada was terminated. Meanwhile in March 2022 WestJet Group announced its proposed acquisition of Sunwing Airlines and Sunwing Vacations.
WestJet’s WS code is now activated for sale on select Air Transat
operated flights to/from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and Croatia.
Connections via Montreal and Toronto are now available for flight dates beginning May 17.
Air Transat’s TS code has been activated on select WestJet flights, and from that date Air Transat will also offer itineraries connecting select WestJet flights with appealing Air Transat European destinations.
Michèle Barre, VP, Network, Revenue Management and Pricing at Air Transat, says the company is excited to launch its codeshare agreement with WestJet. “The complementarity of our respective networks allows us to offer more alternatives to our customers, providing them with a quality and affordable product. This partnership is part of Air Transat’s development strategy, enhancing our long-standing presence in the transatlantic market.”
And John Weatherill, Chief Commercial Officer, WestJet, said: “This new codeshare with Air Transat complements our growing global network, allowing WestJet to offer guests exciting new destinations in Europe. As our guests return to travel, these new options will connect North America and Europe in new ways and benefit guests on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Once activated, both Air Transat and WestJet codeshare ticket sales will be available via the carriers’ websites and call centres, as well as via major GDS systems and travel agencies.

ACTA reminds agencies to check out CRHP before May 7
TORONTO — ACTA is reminding travel agencies that the federal government’s Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP) expires May 7.
CRHP may provide wage support for agencies, and agencies can apply to the program retroactively, but only until May 7.
The program supports businesses experiencing sufficient recovery to hire employees or increase hours of work of existing employees. It’s a wage subsidy that runs parallel to the Tourism and Hospitality Recovery Program (THRP) wage and rent subsidies.
Eligible employers can access either the CRHP or the THRP, but not both during the same period, notes ACTA. Eligible employers, including travel agencies and independent travel agents who had an active payroll account as of March 2020, could previously access wage subsidies, and now can access the CRHP.
The THRP wage and rent subsidies require a minimum period-over-period revenue loss of at least 40% and some employers no longer
meet the 40% revenue loss requirement to qualify for the THRP.
ACTA advises employers in this scenario to take a look at the CRHP.
“However, like the THRP, this program expires May 7, 2022, but applications can be made retroactively up to 180 days after the end of a period,” says ACTA.
The CRHP provides up to 50% wage subsidies for new employees or existing employees who are working increased hours or earn a higher wage. Eligible employers must have a revenue loss of >10% to qualify.
Applications to the CRHP are made through the same system as the THRP.

“With the ease of restrictions across many European destinations, we are excited to welcome back avid Canadian travellers,” said Pascal Prinz, Chair of ETC’s Chapter in Canada.
Prinz adds: “Air bookings to Europe are strong. All major carriers are ramping up their transatlantic flight schedule, offering Canadians great deals and direct flights to experience Europe.”
Consumer-led growth continues to drive travel recovery into 2022, with consumers keen to spend the savings accumulated throughout the pandemic, according to the report.
Driven by strong domestic and intra-European travel, the overall travel demand for Europe is projected to be 30% below pre-pandemic levels in 2022.
However while domestic travel within Europe is expected to recover entirely in 2022, international travel to Europe will be slower to revive and is not likely to surpass 2019 levels until 2025.
Entry requirements for each country and the latest information can be found at reopen.europa.eu. Travel advisors are also encouraged to contact the national tourist board of the respective country. For destination inspiration, visit visiteurope.com.

ARE STRONG AND ALL MAJOR CARRIERS ARE RAMPING UP THEIR TRANSATLANTIC SCHEDULES.
Europe are a key driver of positive sentiment about European travel, with younger generations most likely to travel long-haul during 2022 – 57% of 18-34 year-olds, 46% of 35-49 year-olds, and 32% of the 50+ age group.
COVID-19 concerns (48%) are the main deterrent to international travel for Canadians, with travel costs (12%) and restrictions at destinations (8%) also slightly above the combined average of longhaul markets.
Knowing that the country effectively handles the pandemic (30%), flexible cancellation policies (28%), fully lifted travel restrictions (27%), getting vaccinated for Covid-19 (25%) and appropriate health protocols that secure the safety of locals and travellers (23%) are the factors classified as most important for boosting Canadian travellers’ confidence.
“Vegas ON”: New hotels, attractions and more lift bringing Canadians back to Las Vegas
TORONTO — Las Vegas is back, bigger and better than ever before, with “100% capacity and 100% occupancy,” says David Han, Senior Account Representative for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
Anyone visiting Las Vegas “will feel like they’re back in 2019,” Han joked, noting that all larger-thanlife attractions, dining venues and hotels that make the destination so famous and so popular are already firing on all cylinders at pre-pandemic levels.
“While other destinations were ramping back up, Las Vegas was
already taking those next steps to welcome the next generation of travellers,” he said.
Not surprisingly, the LVCVA’s marketing message right now is ‘Vegas ON’.
Han hosted the recent LVCVA industry dinner event at Parcheggio in Toronto, for a gathering of tour operators, airline reps, trade media and more.
The LVCVA’s outreach to the trade includes its Vegas Reward Program, exclusively for travel advisors.
Agents can register at TrackMyLasVegasBookings.com and enter their bookings into the system, up to 24 months retroactively, to earn points and win prizes. Points can be redeemed for hotel accommodation, merchandise, show tickets and more.
“We care about the travel trade community,” said Han, adding that agents should keep an eye out for upcoming FAM trips.
INT’L RECOVERY & AIRLINE LIFT
While Las Vegas has fully recovered its domestic travel market, international will take longer to come back. But the numbers are increasing month by month.
From the Canadian market, Han estimates that 50 - 60% of 2019’s numbers will be regained by the end of 2022. “But we do need more flights, guys,” he said to laughter.
Representatives from both WestJet and Air Canada were at last night’s event.
WestJet is the largest international carrier flying into Las Vegas, said Shannon Cunningham, WestJet area sales manager. This summer WestJet will have 48 flights weekly into the destination, from Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton and Winnipeg.
Air Canada will have daily flights from Toronto as well as service from Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver, says ACV area sales manager Dianne Pedroso. Clients can connect from dozens of cities across Canada, from $49. And ACV packages to Las Vegas start at $599. “We have definitely seen an uptick in demand,” said Pedroso, especially for Group bookings.
NEW HOTELS
The 777-room Circa Resort & Casino is the first newly-built hotel in Downtown Las Vegas in more than 40 years. Its year-round ‘aqua theatre’, known as Stadium Swim, is hugely popular.
The 1,500-room Virgin Hotels Las Vegas sits on the site of the former Hard Rock Hotel, and opened in March 2021. It’s a short walk to the Strip, and that will work well for many clients, plus it’s location offers great Strip views, says Han.
Also new is Resorts World Las Vegas, the massive 3,500-room

development encompassing the Las Vegas Hilton, and the Conrad Las Vegas. It opened in June 2021 and boasts more than five acres of pool space, along with no fewer than 40 dining and drinks venues.
Han notes that because the Resorts World brand is still under the radar for many Las Vegas visitors, travel advisors can often find “really compelling and competitive” rates for their clients at Resorts World Las Vegas.
NEW ATTRACTIONS & UPCOMING EVENTS
Of all the new attractions awaiting Las Vegas visitors, Area 15 is getting more than the usual buzz. Billed as an “immersive entertainment and events district”, Area 15 offers a mash-up of gaming and fun all in a kaleidoscope of colour and LED lights, with everything
from arcade games to axe-throwing to virtual golf to zip lining. Visitors can spend hours here in the blink of an eye, says Han.
Meanwhile Las Vegas has two big events on its calendar. Starting in 2023, for a three-year engagement, Formula One racing will return to the streets of Las Vegas. And on Feb. 11, 2024 Las Vegas will host Super Bowl LVIII.

Skylink selects Farenexus to build new agent booking tool
TORONTO — Skylink has announced that it has appointed Farenexus to build its brand new travel agent booking engine, Magellan.
The Montreal-based consolidator, which serves over 1,200 agents across Quebec and parts of Ontario, says that by appointing Farenexus as its technology partner, it will be able to launch a booking tool that does not require cryptic GDS skills and knowledge.
Magellan, which will be built with the Nexuswind technology, will provide not only a range of negotiated and published fares but also all the web fares of major airlines in one search request. Travel agents will be able to immediately know what is available for their clients in a single request, ensuring the best
offer for them. Magellan will also allow Skylink to add additional dynamic content as airlines continue to expand their ‘direct’ API efforts.
“The role of the consolidator is to demystify the complexity of the many air products that the airlines now offer so that the travel agent can direct their client to the best offer in the market for them,” said Skylink’s Joane Tetreault. “The partnership with Farenexus has enabled us to overwhelmingly meet this objective. Farenexus’ in-depth knowledge of our industry was the key to this success. It is a perfect marriage!”
Ravi Kumar Panwar, CEO at Farenexus, added: “We are very pleased to have been selected by Skylink to build this important new tool for their agency and travel agent partners. We understand how confusing and complex finding the best solution for a travel agent’s client can be in this airline omni channel distribution world. We are proud that we have been able to extend our Nexuswind
