LOOKS LIKE A DREAM, ACTS LIKE A NIGHTMARE

Katy Perry, Kylie Jenner, and Kelli Osbourne can pull it off, so you can too; right? The rise in unnatural locks (otherwise known as mermaid hair) has taken over red carpets, blogs, and your Pinterest board. While the fantasy hues are admired and desired, they do come with a price. If you are wanting a fresh change and willing to endure the upkeep, then this is the trend for you. The initial dying will be long and expensive, and your trips to the salon will become frequent. This process should be done by a professional. Depending on the shade of your hair, how much you want dyed, and your hair’s color affinity will determine the length of your initial adventure. First, you must bleach your hair or completely strip it of its color. The process of stripping will take between one to three hours, with a possibility of more than one process. After, the natural color is stripped, then the unnatural color is applied. The color will be applied at least twice. The extensive dying will damage your hair, so be prepared for a trim. After leaving the salon your vibrant locks will be photo ready. The saturation will begin to fade at the first rinse. It is hard for the color to hold because of the weakened and damaged state that your hair is in from the extensive processing. You should be prepared to make a trip to the hair salon every few weeks for a color touch up and trim. If you are willing to take the chance, you can buy dye from Sally’s Beauty Supply, the world’s largest retailer for professional beauty supplies, and keep it on hand to do your own touch ups. As they say beauty is pain. WORDS GRACE ROSSON

The unnatural color trend comes with a cost. Get the inside scoop before becoming so hipster it hurts.
Once you start getting tired of the color or get lazy with the maintenance be prepared for an ugly fade out. If your hair is blue it will slowly fade to highlighter green, and then a urine yellow. If the color is a power purple, it will fade to a light, dull pink. In order to get rid of the color completely, you will either have to strip your hair of all its color, or dye your hair a very dark color. Even though the process is extensive, the feeling of having your hair an unnatural color is liberating. All eyes will be on you. The process is daunting, and you should definitely get a conditioning treatment when it’s over, but it is a process that must be done if you are trying to find your niche.
Knitwear is the perfect transition from the winter blues to warmer weather.

2. Turn canvas and fabric over. Place fabric around the edges. Cover all sides.
TIPS: Organize your jewelry station by using different sizes of canvases. For longer earrings, opt for a longer canvas and use shorter canvases for studs.
3. Starting on one edge, tightly fold fabric and glue to the board. When you get to the corners, fold the corner into a triangle and glue. Fold in the two sides and glue each one.
Take your time when gluing the fabric. Make sure the sides are all pulled tight when gluing. Be sure to choose canvases bigger than your current collection, that way there’s space to add more.
4. Repeat step three for all four sides. 5. Once your fabric is glued securely, it’s time for the fun part. Hang it on the wall and start organizing your jewelry!

BE ONE WITH THE IRISH St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and while it traditionally began as a Day of Feast for the Patron Saint of Ireland, today it is used as yet another day to indulge in the better things in life. Whether it be the plethora of green and gold glitter, or the constant reminder of the “Luck of the Irish,” maybe even the shiny beads and clover leaves; St. Paddy’s day is a day dedicated to celebration. This year, March 17th coincidentally lands in the middle of spring break. Alcoholic beverages are always a fun way to honor and awaken your inner-Irish heritage. While shots of Hawkeye Vodka and long pulls of Four-Lokos might be your go-to in campus town, leave those amateur drinks out of your suitcase. Instead step out of your comfort zone with these new simple shots and cocktails, courtesy Mix That Drink. Hopefully you will impress your new friends, with your mixologist skills. Good luck, and as always, drink responsibly! SHAMROCK JUICE Similar to “Jungle Juice” or even a sweeter, greener version of a long island iced tea, Shamrock Juice combines gin, white tequila, light rum, vodka, blue curacao, and freshly squeezed orange juice. This might be a crowd favorite if you are making a drink to share. THE “GRASSHOPPER” This cocktail is best served in a martini glass, and is recommended for those who love the chocolate and mint combination. If you find yourself indulging in Thin Mints, this cocktail will awe. It features crème de menthe, white crème de cacao, and light crème. WORDS SAMANTHA DUBOIS

THE IRISH FLAG For this savory shot you’ll be honoring the colors of the Irish flag (green, orange and white) by layers green crème de menthe, Licor 43, and Irish crème.

DRINK RECIPES TO BRING OUT THE IRISH IN YOU.
EVERGREEN COCKTAIL If you love tequila, you have found your go-to St. Paddy’s Day drink. Mix tequila, green crème de menthe, Midori, white grapefruit juice and pineapple juice to make a sweet drink that will celebrate the day. JOLLY RANCHER VODKA TUTORIAL Finally, one last easy and fun recipe that only involved sour apple jolly ranchers and vodka (of your choice.) This one is simple, and involves our infusing jolly ranchers into vodka overnight (Mix That Drink recommends 12-24 hours.) You will be the most festive one on the beach with this green vodka!
THE BUDDY SYSTEM Pair accessories such as watches and hats with button ups and flannels for a stylish look.
