6 Questions for ... Jared Lehr How did you get into the jewelry business? My father was a self-taught jewelry artist who introduced me to the world of jewelry making. Being exposed to and observing him build these handheld pieces of art was magnetic.

What design element do you usually focus on? My focus always is letting women express themselves through their jewelry. Anybody can wear diamonds, but a strong woman can express herself through her elegance. That’s where I come in.

How do you select your gems? I go all over the world to find my stones: Africa, South America, Asia. I work directly with miners and cutters to get the crème de la crème. I can say that I find them, but the truth is they find me. I know it right away. It hits me on the inside. It’s a euphoria. Do you like to work with a particular stone or stones? I’m drawn to the tourmaline family. It has greens, blues, reds and pinks. I think some Indicolite (blue-green) gems are prettier than emeralds. Paraiba from Brazil is a rare neon color tourmaline that I am obsessed with. If you could design for one person living or dead, who would it be and why? Princess Dianna would be my pick. She was a rebel and a risk taker and didn’t care one bit about the outside noise. Alive person would be Zoe Saldana, she’s a fashion Icon.

Describe what you create and why? I love what I do. My admiration for women is endless. I love seeing their reaction when they confidently wear my jewelry. Deep down I’m a feminist! I create wearable art that allows women to have a voice through the jewelry they wear. Empowering women to be stronger through their selection of jewelry is my ultimate high.

Colleen’s Dream Foundation Nicole Cundiff is a philanthropist, Realtor, licensed attorney and an Arizona-native who co-founded Colleen’s Dream Foundation in 2012. Nicole works in memory of her mother, Colleen Drury, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2013.

What is Colleen’s Dream Foundation? Colleen’s Dream is a Scottsdale based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to funding scientific research with the goals of developing an early detection test and educating women about the deadly disease.

How is ovarian cancer different from other cancers? The biggest differentiator is the lack of early detection methods. Ovarian cancer is often called the Silent Killer because signs of the disease will show themselves only after they have developed in a woman’s body. Ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynecologic cancer among women in the United States. When caught early, 92 percent of women survive at least five years.

What do I need to know about the deadly disease? Knowing the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer is crucial. If these symptoms persist for longer than two weeks, women should consult an OB/GYN or a specialist and request a pelvic ultrasound: • Swollen or bloated abdomen • Feeling full quickly • Back pain • Changes in bowels • Frequent urination

What has Colleen’s Dream Foundation done for women and families? More than $1.2 million has been given in the pursuit of improving patient treatment and developing an early detection test. Monthly we provide care packages to women battling ovarian cancer. We have given more than 200 care packages nationally to date.

Is there anything I can do to help? First and foremost, share the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer with friends and family. Raising awareness is key to saving more women’s lives. We host fundraising events every September and February. Spotlighting these events supports our mission to fund cutting-edge ovarian cancer research. CELEBRITY FIGHT NIGHT Celebrity Fight Night began in 1994 with a boxing ring in a small ballroom; and for 22 years the Foundation worked with its guest of honor, Muhammad Ali, to raise money for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix. The Champ attended every event with much enthusiasm! From its beginnings with celebrities having fun in the ring with oversize boxing gloves to now Grammy winning musical entertainment, Celebrity Fight Night keeps Winning the Fight for Charities.

Celebrity Fight Night has given $86 million to charities in 24 years, primarily supporting the Barrow Neurological Institute. The BNI is the world’s largest neurological disease treatment and research institution; and this year CFN is proud to support the BNI’s Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders Program that works closely alongside the Parkinson Center in the same offices.

Celebrity Fight Night Celebrating Its 10th Year Anniversary With Its Never Give Up Program

Celebrity Fight Night started a program 10 years ago at St. Vincent de Paul called Never Give Up. Approximately 300 local and national business people and athletes have shared encouraging messages to about 500 Homeless men and women every Monday morning at breakfast since 2008. On March 6, CFN purchased 1,000 steaks and served a full course dinner to the Homeless for dinner at SVDP....well-known chefs, Mark Tarbell,

Vincent Guerithault, Chris Bianco and Mark Lupino did the cooking and serving! Some of the Homeless men and women commented that it was the first time in their life that they had ever eaten a steak! We are reminded that, “To much is given, much is expected” – Perhaps Mother Teresa said it best, “A life not lived for others is not a life”!

A Few Minutes with … Chef Sherry Yard THE “NEW” TANZY AND iPic THEATER AT SCOTTSDALE QUARTER I was captivated meeting award winning Chef Sherry Yard at the newly designed Tanzy Restauraunt and iPic Theater. Along with the new decor which is “eye candy,” and the delicious foods they have created; I know I will make this a weekly destination if not more often so I can taste the many new and unique combinations of flavors and spices they have blended for our enjoyment. I recommend sharing; so you can experience more flavors, and I mean experience! The drinks are unique, and some include a popsicle which is a delicious way to clear your palate before tasting their unique mixture of herbs and spices with the finest quality meats and fish and again “eye candy” presentations.

It’s hard to believe, but everything we had was truly scrumptious. The service was good but not outstanding. We loved the blue walls and copper domes as lights. The place had a nice ambiance and we would definitely go back.
