A Kiss of the Earth is an interactive computeranimated video and sound installation inspired by Sergei Diaghilev’s revolutionary 1913 Ballets Russes production of The Rite of Spring, scored by Igor Stravinsky. It is the story of a pagan tribe calling on its deities to restore the earth, a drama that ends with a sacrificial maiden’s dancing herself to death.

Audra McDonald, who has won a Tony, Emmy and Grammy, will perform tonight, Jan. 21, at UNC’s Memorial Hall. It’s hard to comprehend what Audra McDonald has accomplished in her career, and she seems like she’s only getting started. The charismatic entertainer, who has starred in a number of Broadway hits, including “Ragtime and Master Class,” has won six Tony Awards, which is more than any other performer. Three of them were won by the age of 28. She’s also snagged two Grammy Awards and an Emmy. Go to triangletoday.com to read the six reasons we’re very impressed with McDonald’s accomplishments.

‘THE MIRACULOUS AND THE MUNDANE’ There’s been something of a love-fest going on at Manbites Dog Theater in preparation for the upcoming opening of “The Miraculous and the Mundane.”
And finally, the production celebrates Craft’s longtime collaboration with director Joseph Megel – a bond of trust that allows the pair to portray the characters’ foibles with loving truth.
Durham-based playwright Howard L. Craft’s script is a love letter to the generation of African-American men who came back from serving in Vietnam and are now dealing with various health issues, including Alzheimer’s disease.
The play, which opened Jan. 19, centers on Percy Nelson, whose wife died years ago, leaving him to provide for and guide his two children. Now he’s beginning to show signs of dementia. His Marine buddy, Bone, tries to help Percy through his forgetfulness and battle nightmares by reliving their good times together and having some laughs.
It’s also a nod to local audiences because of the play’s Durham setting, which includes references to familiar streets and businesses.
