WEEKLY HONORS PLAYER OF THE WEEK AARON ESTRADA | Hofstra

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK REYNE SMITH | Charleston

Estrada helped Hofstra to a pair of wins over the past week to extend the Pride’s winning streak to four games. The guard from New Jersey matched his career-high with 20 points in Wednesday’s win over Princeton and then bettered it with a 24-point showing in Saturday’s victory over Bucknell. Estrada set up his teammates for success as well, dishing out seven assists against Princeton and six vs. Bucknell as the Hofstra offense cracked 80 points for the third and fourth-consecutive games. For the week, Estrada averaged 22.0 points and 6.5 assists on 57% from the field.

Smith’s reign as CAA Rookie of the Week continues with an impressive fourth-straight honor to begin his collegiate career. The freshman from Australia averaged 23.0 points per game in a 1-1 week that included 22 points in a win over Tulane and 24 in an overtime contest at Furman. Smith shot 65% overall and 63% from three (12-of-19) to improve upon his lead as the nation’s top freshman in made threes (31), while also knocking down all eight of his free-throw attempts.

NEWS AND NOTES SUPER TUESDAY Three CAA teams earned resume-building wins in Tuesday night’s action, as conference members collected victories over teams from the ACC, The American, and the A10. James Madison knocked off Virginia in a CBS Sports Network game in Harrisonburg, while Northeastern came back for a home win over UMass and Charleston notched a road victory at Tulane. MEET ME TONIGHT IN ATLANTIC CITY The CAA is 7-3 against the Atlantic 10 this season with wins by five different CAA teams: Delaware and Northeastern have each recorded two, while Drexel, Hofstra, and James Madison each have one. There will be four more meetings between the leagues in non-conference play, with two being Northeastern home games (Davidson, St. Bonaventure). Drexel will visit La Salle and Charleston facing Rhode Island at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C., home to the 2022 CAA Championship. THEY’RE GRRREAT ON THE GLASS Towson has outrebounded its opponent by double digits in five of its six wins, recording margins of +17, +19, +15, +10, and +15. The Tigers lead the CAA with a +7.0 rebounding margin on the season. Cam Holden is tied for the CAA lead with five double-doubles. IT’S GOOD TO HAVE OPTIONS Aaron Estrada scored 20 points to lead Hofstra to a win over Princeton, then bettered that career-high effort with a 24-point showing in the victory against Bucknell that pushed the Pride’s win streak to four. Estrada joins Zach Cooks, Jalen Ray, and Omar Silverio with 20-point games for Hofstra this year.
