NEWS AND NOTES THRILLER, THRILLER NIGHT The most entertaining games on Friday’s college basketball schedule involve CAA teams. KenPom’s ThrillScore formula, which ranks the day’s must-watch games, places Delaware-Charleston (2 p.m., FloHoops) and Hofstra-Elon (12 p.m., CBSSN) as the day’s top viewing options. OUR HOUSE IS A VERY, VERY, VERY FINE HOUSE CAA play opened with three games Wednesday night and the three home teams in action opened their league slates at 1-0. Elon led Northeastern wire-to-wire for a 17-point win at Schar Center, UNCW defeated Delaware by two points at Trask Coliseum on a pair of free throws with three seconds remaining, and William & Mary scored twice in the final 15 seconds to defeat Hofstra at Kaplan Arena. Home teams are off to a 3-0 start this conference season after going 49-41 in 2019-20. RISE AND FIRE Towson has captured three of the last five CAA Player of the Week honors with Nicolas Timberlake collecting this week’s award thanks to his performance at Navy. Timberlake scored 24 points while going 5-of-6 from three in a 17-point win at Navy. Towson is the CAA’s top team in three-point percentage (37.1) and second in the conference in three-point defense (31.9). Towson has climbed to the top spot among CAA teams in NET (64) and KenPom (113) as of Wednesday. The KenPom ranking is 185 places higher than where the Tigers finished 2020-21.
