NEWS AND NOTES IF IT’S FOR FREE, IT’S FOR UD Delaware has capitalized on its opportunities at the free-throw line so far this season, ranking 17th nationally in total points scored at the line (147) and 24th in free-throw percentage (78.6). IT’S GOOD TO HAVE OPTIONS Aaron Estrada scored 20 points to lead Hofstra to its third-straight win as the Pride defeated Princeton, then bettered that career-high effort with a 24-point showing in the win over Bucknell. Estrada is the fourth Hofstra player to score 20 points in a game this year, joining Zach Cooks, Jalen Ray, and Omar Silverio. REYNE KING Charleston’s Reyne Smith has won four straight CAA Rookie of the Week honors to begin his collegiate career. Smith made six three-pointers in each of Charleston’s two games last week to lift his total to 31 on the year - a total that leads all freshmen in Division I and is 10th among all players nationally. Smith is tied for third in the CAA in scoring at 15.6 ppg. EVERY NIGHT IS 80s NIGHT IN HEMPSTEAD Hofstra completed a four-game homestand with four victories, scoring 80 or more points in all four wins. The last Hofstra team to win four straight with 80+ points in all four wins was the 2018-19 Pride, which defeated UNCW and Charleston at home before picking up road wins over James Madison and Towson in a four-game January stretch.
NOISE METER Elon’s Torrence Watson poured in a career-high 34 points Saturday night against High Point, good for the second-most points by a CAA player this year. Watson’s performance was displayed to the thirdlargest crowd in Schar Center history. @ W M T R I B E M B B | # G OT R I B E | T R I B E AT H L E T I C S . C O M
