- William & Mary returns home after splitting a pair of matchups at Charleston last weekend. The Tribe saw Sydney Wagner (21) and Nyla Pollard (10) score in doubel figures in Saturday’s win and would come up just Bailey Eichner has scored at least 12 points short behind 28 from Wagner and 13 points from Bailey Eichner in Sunday’s close loss. in three of the Tribe’s last five games. Twice - Junior Sydney Wagner has been a scoring machine for the Tribe, dropping at least 20 points in eight of she has pulled in double-digit rebounds for her last elevn outings. The guard is averaging 22.7 points per game over that span and posted a careera double-double. high 31 points in a William & Mary loss at Delaware on 1/10/21. She was named CAA Player of the Week on December 21. The Tribe ranks first in the CAA and seventh nationally holding onpponents to 23% from the three-point line. WM held Charleston to just 9-47 from three last weekend.

The Tribe continued to excel in the classroom achieving a team GPA of 3.63 for the fall semester. In total, nine student-athletes had semester GPA of 3.5 or better, including four with a 4.0.

For the 16th consecutive year, William & Mary Atheltics led all public schools in the Federal Graduation Rate (86%), the NCAA release in its annual reports.

- Bre Bellamy has been a spark for Coach Swanson off the bench in the last three games. The sophomore is averaging just over 10 points per game over the last three contests and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds last Saturday at Charleston. - Bailey Eichner recorded her second double-double of the year Sunday and has scored at least 10 in three of the Tribe’s last five, but the senior has got it done all year on the boards. Eichner ranks sixth in the league with 8.2 rebounds per game and is third with 6.6`defensive rebounds per contest. Eichner is also ranked sixth in the CAA averaging just over one block per game. Eichner also leads the Tribe with 34 assists on the season.

- A key to the Tribe’s success has been the effort on the defensive end of the floor. Coach Swanson’s team ranks second in the conference in scoring defense allowing just 62.0 points per game. The Green and Gold have produced extraordinary defense from the three-point line. The Tribe ranks first among all CAA teams and 7 nationally holding teams to 23.1% from behind the arc (39-161). - The Tribe held three opponents this season to less than 50 points. Under head coach Ed Swanson, the Tribe has held opponents to less than 50 points in 27 games and are 26-1 in those contests. W&M has also held its foes to either zero or one 3-pointer in a game on 21 occasions, including one at Mason. Saturday’s win at Charleston saw the Tribe limit the Cougars to a season-low 27% from the field.

- The Tribe knocked down a season-high 10 3-pointers in the victory over Navy. W&M ranks first in the CAA with 204 triples on the year. It marked the 15th time under head coach Ed Swanson that W&M made double-digit 3-pointers in a game, and the Tribe improved to 11-4 in those contests.

- Chaniqwa Gilliam made her first career start against Hofstra on 1/2/21 and has been a big part of the WM offense since. The sophomore has averaged just under 8 points per game over the Tribe’s last six contests. Gilliam pulled down a season-high six rebounds in the Tribe’s win over Drexel and has multiple assists in each of the last four games.. She has shot over 50% from the field in three of her eight starts. - Sydney Wagner and Nyla Pollard have been staples in the Tribe’s lineup and on the floor. Wagner ranks second among all CAA players with 38.3 minutes played per game, playing all 40 minutes on eight occasions, while Pollard ranks fifth in the league with 34.5 minutes per contest. The pair also lead the Tribe in points (Wagner- 21.3 ppg, Pollard- 8.2 ppg). - W&M head coach Ed Swanson enjoyed a noteworthy 2019-20 season individually. He was named the CAA Co-Coach of the Year following the Tribe’s historic season. Personally, Swanson won his 500th career game on Nov. 26, became just the third coach in W&M history win 100 games with the Tribe on Jan. 12, and was inducted into the Northeast Conference Hall of Fame in January.

- As a team, the Tribe was picked eighth in the preseason standings by vote of the league coaches. Last season, W&M was picked seventh in the preseason before finishing a program-best third in the final league standings. The Tribe posted the best season in school history in 2019-20 with program records in wins (21), CAA wins (12) and road wins (11). With a final RPI of 104, W&M was on the verge of earning a postseason berth to, at least, the WNIT for the first time in the program’s history before COVID-19 ended the season. - W&M will be down two scholarship players in 2020-21 as senior Libby Underwood and junior Eva Hodgson elected to opt out due to COVID-19 concerns. Underwood appeared in 52 career games, while Hodgson was an All-CAA First Team performer in 2019-20, averaging 20.7 points per game.

W&M closed as much as a 15-point first-half deficit to six, 44-38, with 4:32 left in the third quarter, but ODU answered with a 15-5 run and limited W&M to 27% shooting. Bailey Eichner had a career-high 14 rebounds.

Dec. 6

Richmond

L, 55-72

The Tribe closed a 22-point deficit to 12, 62-50, thanks to a 13-3 run to start the fourth quarter, but UR shot 49.1% to hold off W&M. Nyla Pollard led W&M with 14 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Dec. 13 Navy

W, 60-51

Sydney Wagner scored 23 points to lead the Tribe to its first win of the season. W&M used a 15-2 run spanning the end of the 1st quarter and start of the 2nd and never trailed.

Dec. 16 at George Mason

W, 48-43

W&M scored the game’s opening nine points and never trailed in limiting Mason to just 43 points and 27.8 percent shooting, including 1-of-16 from beyond the arc. Sydeny Wagner scored a career-high 27 points.

Dec. 20 at Norfolk State

W, 55-44

The Tribe used 9-0 run to end the third quarter and start the fourth to extended its lead to double figures at NSU. Sydney Wagner erupted for a career-high 29 points.

Chaniqwa Gilliam set a new career-high with 12 points in the game. Rebekah Frisby-Smith (10) and Sydney Wagner (11) were also in double digits.

Sydney Wagner dropped a career-high 31 points, the eleventh-most by any Tribe player in the modern era (1975-present). She made 7 threes and was 6-6 from the free-throw line.

Sydney Wagner (18), Emma Krause (11), and Chaniqwa Gilliam (10) all reached double figures for the Tribe. WM won the rebounding margin, 34-32.

Bailey Eichner (13/13/8) was just two assists short of a triple-double. Bre Bellamy scored 19 off the bench. WM shot 49.1% from the field in the win.

Jan. 23 at Charleston

W, 57-44

The Tribe used a 20-6 fourth quarter to push by Charleston. Sydney Wagner had 21 and Nyla Pollard had 10 points in the win. Bre Bellamy added 10 boards.

Jan. 24 at Charleston

Sydney Wagner’s 28 points and Bailey Eichner’s double-double was not enough for the Tribe to overcome a 25-14 deficit after the opening quarter.

NU leads the all-time series at 13-12, but W&M is 8-6 against the Huskies under head coach Ed Swanson. Last season, the teams split the series with Nyla Pollard scoring 14 in a home win over NU.
