This Memorial Day weekend, May 23-26, 2014 we are going back to our favorite camp site at Silverwood Lake in Hesperia, California. Bro. Hero Valentino, chairman of the event and his committee are now all set to give everyone a wholesome FUNfilled getaway. For those still undecided but might change their mind in the last minute just call Bro. Hero Valentino (818) 518-7482. Camping fees: $45/person, $22.50 - 11-16yr olds, 10 and under FREE. This is one event you don’t want to miss. See you there. Through the years, annual camping becomes a facilitator of new friendship. I would say this is the most significant event introduced to our organization. It is on these annual retreats in the mountains that camarederie get re-energized. New members get the chance to bond with long-time members. And especially for the kids, just like their APO parents this is where they bond together and start their own friendship that last a lifetime. The APOGLA Annual Camping is a tradition.

The Annual Camping – A Wholesome Family Adventure By Bro. Toti Ayo It was the renaissance period, the latter part of 1984, when a small group of some twenty brothers/sisters realized that it was time to do something with then the APOAA of Southern California. After years in limbo . . . after years of organizational disfunction, these brothers and sisters decided to re-activate and commit themselves to do something that will hopefully provide them some meaning and build an organization that can stand the test of time. We were certain with one thing this time — we hadto keep family values in the forefront. We had to be a family-oriented organization if we were to succeed. While most were then bachelors, naive so to speak, as new-comers in a foreign land, one by one, we were starting to build our respective families. While many still had within

them the collegiate fratman mindset, others had the enthusiasm and visionary ideals of Brother Christian and Betta David and Brother Dan Nino in forcing the issue of re-organizing. Yes, I remember those days. . . .I remember what we’ve been through. . . After one of our monthly meetings in early 1985 at the Pizza Hut in Beverly Blvd and Normandie in Los Angeles, a few of us proceeded to Brother Bonjie Ingco’s nearby apartment in Mariposa. It was in that gathering that I remember Brother Christian bring out the idea of a family camping. Being with the US Navy at that time, he offered to provide camping tents for most of us who didn’t have one. . .for only ten dollars. However, he didn’t provide us with air mattress . . .For first time campers like Racquel and myself, Continued on page 5
