Tired of working in the kitchen? Solution - bring fondue to your table! Any time is the right time for fondue - with family, guests or as a party. In the 18th century, creating a way to utilize hardened cheese and bread, the Swiss melted cheese, added wine and dunked bread cubes in the mixture. The name itself came from the French word "fonder" which means to melt. We will create fondues from around the world: Traditional Cheese, Swiss Cheese, Beef Bourguignonne, Crab, Bleu Cheese and Tempura. Of course we'll dunk delectable tidbits of fruit, cake or brownies in wonderful dessert fondues - Flavored chocolate fondues plus Butterscotch fondue. And we will make a variety of sauces and dips to round out the menu. A $13 material fee is payable to the instructor at class. Time to Get Your Flu Shot! Sherwin Linton
The Senior Club has invited one of our favorites, Sherwin Linton, back to entertain us. Sherwin is often described as ‘Mid America’s Number One Entertainer.' Sherwin was among the top nominees for Entertainer of the Year by the Country Music Association in 1972 and 1973. Sherwin has played everywhere from the Grand Ole’ Opry to the Las Vegas Strip. Sherwin is still singing the songs of Elvis, Marty Robbins, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, and Johnny Cash with the same vitality that made them classics. He also performs many of his own hits and originals plus a great variety of Traditional Country, Folk, Gospel and Cowboy songs. With an estimated repertoire of over 5000 songs he can entertain any audience anywhere. An infectious smile, a charming personality and sincerity have won him a loyal legion of friends and fans all over the United States. Duluth Fall Color and Glensheen Mansion
Our first stop is for coffee and rolls at Tobies Restaurant in Hinckley. We will arrive in Duluth and take the colorful Skyline Drive overlooking the Twin Ports of Superior and Duluth. Nestled on the rocky hillside, the city overlooks Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world. Next, we will arrive at Fitger’s Inn, Duluth and have lunch at Midi Restaurant. It is the 1885 renovated historic brewery built on the shores of Lake Superior. Menu: Lake Trout with a Lemon Butter Sauce [Option: A chicken entrée can be pre-ordered.] After lunch, we will go to the Glensheen Mansion in Duluth. Every ten minutes a group of 17 will tour through the small rooms of the estate. Before and after the guided tour, we visit the gift store and walk through the manicured grounds. (Guests who cannot manage stairs can take the first floor tour and watch a video of the upper floors). The estate is located on the shores of Lake Superior. Stories of the Congdon family and others who lived and worked at Glensheen bring this magnificent mansion to life. The mansion’s central hallway is paneled from floor to ceiling with fumed oak, a process whereby the oak is treated with ammonia fumes to bring out the grain and imbue the wood with an unusual color. Tour includes the basement, first floor and second floor. Guests can spend time in the Carriage House and on the beautifully landscaped grounds. The musical is inspired by the humorous book Growing Up Lutheran, by Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson. See what is was like to grow up Lutheran in the Midwest in the 1950s. Based on the hit Adam Sandler movie, The Wedding Singer's sparkling new score does for the '80s what "Hairspray" did for the '60s. Just say yes to the most romantic musical in 20 years. It's 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer. He's the life of the party, until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. As luck would have it, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.
