Brain Builders Engineering: Crazy Gears & Wheels (Grades 1-5)

If you love Legos, making things move, building and experimenting – this class is for you. Learn about engineering and the physical science principles behind different action machines. Working in teams, students will build crazy wheeled and geared contraptions that spring into action. Have fun while you learn the principles of mechanical engineering and simple machines. Make tops, spinners, zip lines, a rubber band powered cars, crimping cars, and other crazy contraptions. Instructor: Computer Explorers

G.R.A.S.P.

(Grades K-8) GRASP is a nine-week correspondence program which helps students maintain reading and math skills while they are on summer vacation. It should take you and your child approximately one hour per week for nine weeks to complete each weekly lesson. We suggest parents order the grade level just completed. If there are extenuating circumstances, order the level that is appropriate for your child. Prices include curriculum packet, completion awards and scoring service. Deadline to register is April 17, 2017. GRASP books will be sent to your child’s school after Memorial day. Parents of students in grades 6-8 may pick their books up at the Community Ed office in IGH Middle School. Video Game Coding: Super Mario (Grades 3-5)

New Class! This course will give you hands-on experience developing your own game using Scratch 2, a visual coding platform. Students will learn how to think like a programmer, and learn coding concepts while creating a 2-dimensional arcade-style Super Mario Bother’s themed game. Amazing & Messy Party Art!

Is sparkle your child’s favorite color? If so, they will love this class! They’ll make brilliant, sparkly masterpieces including a portrait of a pony, a trinket box and a painting of a butterfly. The kids will learn different art terms and techniques as they get messy with Model Magic®, plaster of Paris, and more spectacularly sparkly supplies. Pokemon Movie Making (Grades 2-6)

New Class! Work on a stop motion animated POKEMON Movie. Pick your favorite characters to star in your own mini-movie ...the possibilities are endless. Actions figures, Props and backdrops will be available for filming in class. Handle all of the technical details including using a digital movie camera, filming scenes, stop-motion animation, digital editing and adding finishing special effects and transitions to the movie. Kung Fu is the art of fitness and self defense. Learn practical Kung Fu techniques that will benefit you throughout your life, through a skill building progressive training program for beginners through Black Belt. Simley Theatre’s Spring Musical “Anything Goes”

Anything Goes is set aboard the ocean liner S. S. American, where nightclub singer/evangelist Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England. Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin and his sidekick-in-crime Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart. Join Badger, Mole, and the rest of the River animals in this charming tale as they try to rescue their friend Toad who has been arrested for stealing and crashing a motor car while wreaking havoc in the once peaceful River Valley. These animals must serve double duty as they also work to protect Toad Hall from the incoming Ferrets and Weasels. All the while, Toad must realize his wrongdoings, and work to make things right again with his friends and his home. Bring the whole family on down to Thompson County Park on Earth Day to help clean up our local wild spaces. We’ll be partnering with Dakota County for a morning of fun, education and an opportunity to give back to your community. Dakota County will also have an information booth about their residential recycling and compost programs. Preregistration is appreciated to ensure enough supplies are available.

Bring the whole family for a morning of fun and STEM learning. The MN Zoomobile will be presenting their program All Things Connected, where they’ll bring their animal friends to show families how all living things are connected to life on planet Earth. This program will be FREE to all but preregistration is required due to capacity. We’ll also be collecting non-perishable food and hygiene items at this event to donate to the Neighbors Inc. Food Shelf.
