Brain Builders Spanish Club

Minecraft Game Designer

Come join us as we explore the world of Spanish. This beginner’s course will cover themes such as numbers, shapes, colors, directions, feelings, pets, vegetable and fruit. We will do beginning verb conjugations with both irregular and regular present tense conjugations and lots of fun games to help us implement them! Vamos, let’s learn Spanish together. Instructor: Language Sprout

Don't just play Minecraft! Turn Minecraft from a game into a visual learning tool! This class will reinforce problem solving skills and spatial cognition through learning to create in-game puzzles, mazes, and obstacle courses. Student will learn basic game design skills while they collaborate to build Adventure maps, as well as some advanced features of Minecraft, such as Command Blocks. This class has a strong emphasis on creativity, exploration, and cooperative learning experiences. Students will be able to take their custom worlds home on a flash drive, and will be able to continue to develop these worlds on their home computers. Using Alice, an innovative 3D programming software, students will design an interactive gamer story. This object-oriented program is fun and challenging, as students discover the art of video game programming using 3D graphics in a virtual world. Students working in pairs will learn the basics of making objects and characters that move and react in a virtual 3D World. Games created in class will be available online, or students can bring in a USB drive for immediate access. The software is available to download at home. SafeKids- Preparing Kids to Stay Safe at Home and in the Community (Ages 10+)

Aquatics TriDistrict Community Education is pleased to announce a partnership with the YMCA of West St. Paul to offer Lifeguarding training. Please note the prerequisites to participate in the course below. Become certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Learn the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond quickly and effectively to aquatics emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory. Age prerequisite: 15 years of age by the last day of the class. To participate in the course, you must be able to pass a pre-requisite skills evaluation that includes the following: Skill prerequisite 1: Swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both and demonstrate breath control and rhythmic breathing. Swimming on the back or side are not allowed. Swim goggles may be used. Skill prerequisite 2: Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates must place their hands in their armpits. Skill prerequisite 3: Complete a timed event within 1 minutes, 40 seconds: -Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using any stroke. Swim goggles are not allowed. -Surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, and return to the surface. -Swim to the starting point on your back with both hands holding the object and just using your legs to kick. Face should be at or near the surface. -Exit the water without using a ladder and stand up.
