The Brothers Grimm hit the stage with an epic fairytale about wishes, family and the choices we make. James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless yet relevant piece and rare modern classic. The TONY Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching. The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King's Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. One of Sondheim’s most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show! Jazz Vocalist Lee Engele

will be performing at the IGH Senior Center. Sometimes it seems there are as many jazz singers as songs in the jazz canon. Lee Engele is one of the fastest rising stars on the Twin Cities jazz scene. To stand out in this ever-growing crowd of vocalists, a singer must bring more than good pitch and pleasing intonation to the bandstand - the jazz vocalist must further project that energizing "swing feel" that drives the melody and a personal commitment to the lyrics, to telling compelling stories through song. The jazz singer must be part musician, part dramatist, part choreographer. This is Twin Cities jazz artist Lee Engele, a singer who demonstrates contagious energy, personal charm, and that love for lyrics every time she takes the stage. Cold Lemonade & Colored Pencils Coloring books are no longer just for the kids. In fact, adult coloring books are all the rage right now. Researchers and therapists have touted the calming benefits for over a decade, This once-niche hobby has now grown into a full-on trend. Coloring offers a slew of mental benefits. It has therapeutic potential to reduce anxiety, create focus and bring about mindfulness. Like meditation, coloring allows the brain to switch off other thoughts and focus only on the moment, helping to alleviate anxiety. It can be particularly fun and effective for people who aren't comfortable in creating other forms or art, the "non-artistic types". If you just need a hobby, that you don't have to learn, that helps you relax and feel restored, this could be the ticket. Enjoy this fun, adult, social time to de-stress while coloring with colored pencils, listening to music and sipping some lemonade. A variety of coloring supplies and designs will be provided. Just bring your creativity and a good joke to tell. Please register in advance. Those who choose not to walk, can be transported by the motor coach. We will have lunch at The Harmony House Restaurant. It is a small town cafe with home cooked meals. Menu: chicken dinner Harmony's Amish community is the largest in Minnesota and is strictly "Old Order" Amish, meaning that the people are very private and have strong Christian convictions that bind their community together, enabling them to resist the ways of modern society. They began their move to this area in 1974 and have grown to over 100 families with three church "districts" and numerous one-room schools. After lunch, a local guide will board the coach and escort the group into the countryside where the Amish have settled. They are a living link with the past through the visible authentic lifestyle of the Amish. These Amish have no cars, telephones, electricity or other modern conveniences. Stops are made where you can purchase homemade goods. Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) For Families with Children Birth through Pre-Kindergarten

Classes and Activities for You and Your Child

ECFE classes are designed to strengthen families and support children’s healthy growth and development. We provide classes and support for families with children from birth to pre-kindergarten. Our licensed teachers work to boost parenting skills and parental confidence, and help young children develop their physical, language, cognitive and social potential. ECFE will help you learn more about positive guidance, eating and sleeping habits, your child’s development and many other aspects of your relationship with your child. A typical ECFE class consists of three learning sections: parent and child interaction time, early childhood education and parent discussion. All teachers in the program are licensed. Most classes offer child care for siblings eight weeks through five years of age who are not enrolled in class.

ECFE Home Visits

ECFE is here to support you in parenting, our most important role! Who doesn’t need a helping hand once in awhile especially during pregnancy and with your infant or adopted little one? We can provide HOME VISITS.

Early Childhood Screening is required for kindergarten entrance All 3 to 5 year old children in Minnesota are required to complete an Early Childhood Screening to determine if they need additional support or services to prepare for kindergarten. Early Childhood Screening is a free and simple check of your child’s vision, hearing, height, weight and development as well as a brief review of health history and immunizations.

We recommend that children be screened between their 3rd and 4th birthdays. This helps ensure that all young children are well equipped for learning, and that families are aware of resources in the school and community. The screening tools are designed to provide a snapshot of your child’s motor, thinking, speech and language skills. The results are based on your child’s age at the time of the screening. Your child should be screened in the attendance area in which you live.
