We care about the families in our community and are excited to meet your family before your child starts school. This helps us learn about you and your child and provide resources to help prepare your child for kindergarten.

◆◆ Encourages children to explore and participate in hands-on learning that encourages creativity and problem solving ◆◆ Our comprehensive curriculum DLM Early Childhood Express aligns with District 199’s learning goals and the Minnesota State Standards to provide a smooth and easy transition to kindergarten.

The visit is free and takes one hour. This is important for all children to do before turning 4 years old. We check their vision and hearing, and observe how they learn and play. Then, while your child plays, we will talk about what we’ve learned and share personalized information about your child’s learning and growth. Other benefits include community resources, information on programs and classes you may be interested in for yourself or your child, and a free book for your child.

Have a three-year-old? Call us today! Minnesota requires that we see all children before kindergarten but the sooner we see you, the more we can offer!

Already four or five? We have resources for you too.

Superintendent’s message

Early Learning Programs… Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten and Beyond Much of the development that influences achievement throughout life occurs before children even set foot in school. Research continues to affirm how critical it is that children arrive at kindergarten with the cognitive, emotional, and social skills to succeed. Children with such opportunities before they enter kindergarten are more prepared than those who don’t. Participation in early learning programs has proven to have a relatively large and enduring effect on school achievement and well being for all students. The impacts include strengthening families and assisting in the child’s growth and development. Children are provided opportunities to learn through interaction and guided play and to express themselves through creative activities. Early learning is a foundation of long-term success for children. Thus, you will increasingly hear educators refer to the E-12 continuum of learning rather than K-12. Evidence is increasing that school-based programs provide a system that is more likely to contribute to long-term benefits for children.

Don’t miss out!
