(Grades 2-4) Experience the basic forces that make technology possible. Use gravity to keep your balance and leverage simple machines to do your work. Explore the world of future technology as you set up a cellular tower relay to track your friends and program and command real robots. Ooey Gooey Clay Creation

(Grades K-4) It’s ooey and gooey and oh so much fun! What kid doesn’t love to get messy as they create with clay? The children will use a variety of tools and techniques to make owls, monsters, bowls and much, much more. Making a mess may be the best, but working with clay is really cool too! Imagine & Design Wacky Halloween Witch

(Grades K-3) Double, double toil and trouble; fires burn and caldrons bubble. We’ll use air-dry and Model Magic® clay along with a little Halloween magic to create this wonderfully wacky witch. Health & Safety One Day Class! Certified Babysitter’s Training

This course is designed to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. Youth will learn skills in four core areas: leadership and professionalism,safety,basic care for infants and children and first aid. Participants will receive their Babysitter’s Training Certification and Babysitter’s Handbook. Please bring a nut-free bag lunch and beverage. Aquatics TriDistrict Community Education is pleased to announce a partnership with the YMCA of West St. Paul to offer Lifeguarding training. Please note the prerequisites to participate in the course below.

Disney on Ice: Passport to Adventure

Discount tickets are available through Community Education. Shows take place at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Transportation is not provided. Children 2 years and older are required to have a ticket. Tickets must be ordered by Friday, November 18 and picked up the week of November 28 at the SSP Adult Basic Education Building, 517 Marie Avenue, South St. Paul. Become certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Learn the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond quickly and effectively to aquatics emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory. Age prerequisite: 15 years of age by the last day of the class. To participate in the course, you must be able to pass a pre-requisite skills evaluation that includes the following: Skill prerequisite 1: Swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both and demonstrate breath control and rhythmic breathing. Swimming on the back or side are not allowed. Swim goggles may be used. Skill prerequisite 2: Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates must place their hands in their armpits. Skill prerequisite 3: Complete a timed event within 1 minutes, 40 seconds: -Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using any stroke. Swim goggles are not allowed. -Surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, and return to the surface. -Swim to the starting point on your back with both hands holding the object and just using your legs to kick. Face should be at or near the surface. -Exit the water without using a ladder and stand up.

Fencing (Grades 2-10)

New and returning students invited! Fencing is one of the fastest growing sports in the USA and Youth Enrichment League (YEL) fencing continues to evolve to match that pace. Olympic Coach Ro Sobalvarro heads up YEL’s curriculum, ongoing instructor training and tournament consultation. Coach Sobalvarro brings with him an immense knowledge of youth, national and international fencing. Our fencing instructors are all skilled in Coach Sobalvarro’s methods. Fall is a great time for beginning and returning students. New students get introduced to a pulse-pounding sport while returning students continue their study through Coach Sobalvarro’s progressive curriculum. Our coaches adhere to stringent safeguards during class. We institute strict safety guidelines in our courses that students must follow immediately or be asked to sit out. Safety is our first priority. We supply safety swords, protective masks, chest plates and jackets, in a highoctane, inclusive environment. Through fencing, you can acquire quick reflexes, strategic abilities, and concentration. For safety considerations, please wear long pants and athletic shoes. Kung Fu

(Ages 5 and up) Kung Fu is the art of fitness and self defense. Learn practical Kung Fu techniques that will benefit you throughout your life, through a skill building progressive training program for beginners through Black Belt. You will become more aware of self and surroundings, improve your self-esteem and confidence. This is a noncompetitive, full participation and fun class which will strengthen the mind and body, promote leadership, discipline, concentration, coordination and balance. Experience the ultimate in skiing, snowboarding and racing instruction from beginners to experts! At seven different metro ski and snowboard areas, our top quality adult staff will teach you to improve your skiing or boarding on groomed runs and terrain parks. You provide your own food and gear (season long rentals are available), we provide the rest! Ages 6-18 Time: 8:00am – 5:30 pm (approx.) Encore provides a safe and nurturing environment for students where students are able to choose activities such as sports activities, gym time, arts, crafts, billiards and cooking. The students also take part in many community service activities.
