TRINITY-PAWLING SCHOOL 2012-2013

Letter from the Headmaster

Dear Friends, Father Gedrick and I counted. Last year, we gathered together in All Saints’ Chapel 108 times, sang 140 hymns, prayed for over 300 individuals and spent over 1620 minutes in contemplation of things larger than ourselves. In this day and age of social media saturation, I have become increasing aware of the importance of our chapel program in the life of the School. These moments provide our boys and their teachers the opportunity to take a step back from a world dominated by Twitter, Facebook, and the ever present text messages, to instead focus on what truly matters. At Trinity-Pawling, we believe that a man of great character exists in every boy, and if he finds that man within himself, the trajectory of his life will shape our world for the better. In these uncertain and busy times, it is important that we as a society continue to raise young men who are intellectually curious, hard working, and character-driven. Thanks to the generosity of alumni, family, and friends, Trinity-Pawling has the resources to continue its exceptional work in the lives of young men. Last year we raised over $7.5 million in capital, endowment, and annual fund support, with nearly 400 new donors making a gift. As a result of this success, we have invested in our campus and our facilities, which now reflect the quality of our programs; 11 new faculty homes have been completed, providing us the ability to recruit and retain some of the nation’s most talented teachers. This fall welcomed the first games on the David N. Coratti synthetic turf field, and we look forward to christening 9 new tennis courts this spring. What’s more, the world seems to be taking notice of the impact of Trinity-Pawling education. Roughly 85 percent of our graduates are accepted to their first or second college choices. In the past three years, T-P has sent graduates to Ivy and NESCAC colleges, as well as an array of highly selective universities such as Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, and the United States service academies. More now than ever before, Trinity-Pawling is an exceptional school whose time has come, and we are thankful for the donors and friends who continue to partner with the School to ensure its success. Thank you for your continued generosity. Sincerely,

Archibald A. Smith III
