STRATEGIC VISION FOR TRINITY-PAWLING
ONWARD! Adopted by the Board of Trustees on September 25, 2021
A Note from the Head of School For the past two years, a dedicated and creative group of board members, faculty, and administrators have worked together to reimagine the future of boys’ education at Trinity-Pawling. The outcome is an ambitious strategic vision that will advance the School for the next five years. Our new mission is committed to growth, both for our students and for the School. We are excited about our future, our strategic goals, and the dynamic initiatives that will help us make a transformational difference in the lives of our students. Thank you for your commitment to Trinity-Pawling and your continued support as we move forward. Onward!
William W. Taylor Head of School
“The strategic vision is packed with beacons that steer our course while providing flexibility for us to adapt initiatives and adopt programs tailored to meet our goals.” HEAD OF SCHOOL WILLIAM W. TAYLOR
Trinity-Pawling always looks to the future. The Strategic Vision for Trinity-Pawling provides a broad map that will steadily guide the School on its journey in the coming five years. It is aspirational and adaptable, allowing for nimble thinking and flexible responses. Based on two years of inquiry and analysis, the overarching vision encompasses a revised mission statement, four core values, and five strategic goals — each part working interdependently and in unison to impel the School forward. In creating this vision, the School identified its truly distinct elements and strengths — its core values — excellence, character, community, and curiosity. These represent the foundation of the Trinity-Pawling experience. The vision is centered on facilitating and ensuring students’ success and transformation. The five strategic goals — mindset, teaching and learning, belonging, campus, and resources — define our priorities and lay the groundwork for how the School moves forward and educates our students. The learning experience at Trinity-Pawling reflects a deep understanding of what it means to ‘provide an educational experience that makes a transformational difference,’ and enable students ‘to discover and pursue their distinctive gifts and talents.’ This transformational experience has remained the essence of a Trinity-Pawling education since our founding in 1907.
“Trinity-Pawling will always adapt while maintaining the foundation of community, brotherhood, and commitment to innovation and excellence in boys’ education.” BOARD PRESIDENT ERIK K. OLSTEIN ’86, P’11, ’14, ’17

STRATEGIC GOAL
MINDSET
Trinity-Pawling School will embrace and inspire a mindset of excellence, trust, and innovation. Trinity-Pawling will renew and strengthen its commitment to be a studentcentered school. Through a focus on campus-wide mentorship, faculty will receive guidance and resources to strengthen their skills for student advocacy. Ongoing engagement with students and parents will guide us in a continual assessment of this commitment. The way time is allocated across the learning continuum will foster a culture of excellence and further support the growth of a thriving community. Time and resources will be provided so that all members of the community will be empowered to educate, communicate, encourage, and embrace the Trinity-Pawling mindset.
STRATEGIC GOAL
TEACHING AND LEARNING
The Trinity-Pawling School teaching and learning experience will be forward-thinking, vigorous, and engaging in ways that manifest excellence in boys’ education. At Trinity-Pawling, we will continually explore ways to broaden our commitment to holistic learning through the education of the mind, body, and spirit. The School will regularly assess and develop its curricula as it relates to academic, residential, athletic, advisory, and life skills. Students will be provided with dynamic, experiential learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom. Our signature programs, such as the Effort Challenge, the Center for Learning Achievement, the Practicum, and the Institutes for Active Learning will be iterated regularly to ensure that they remain forward-thinking and vigorous. To further enhance the School’s curricular and operational programming, the School will take measures to optimize technology throughout campus. Academic vigor will be sustained through active performance evaluations for faculty, staff, and administrators, strengthening the culture of excellence at Trinity-Pawling.
STRATEGIC GOAL
BELONGING
Trinity-Pawling School will nurture a community that is enriched by its diversity, inclusiveness, and awareness of belonging. Trinity-Pawling will continually review its effectiveness in creating and promoting a community that respects the distinctiveness of each individual. The School will assess curricula and strengthen programs as they relate to diversity, equity, inclusion, and self-awareness on campus. Trinity-Pawling will be dedicated to creating processes and mentorship opportunities, which will ensure the success and retention of diverse students and faculty. To further build and enhance the strengths of its community, solid data points of student diversity and inclusion will be assessed across the academic spectrum, teaching methodology, admissions, hiring, and community life. Sustaining such an environment requires dedication, focus, and self-awareness — the work to reach this goal will be ongoing.
STRATEGIC GOAL
CAMPUS
Trinity-Pawling School will maintain and reimagine the campus resources necessary to provide a healthy and vibrant environment that promotes and supports its transformational agency. Top priorities at Trinity-Pawling will be remediating deferred maintenance needs, particularly in our students’ living and social spaces, and capital projects that meet the strategic goals of the School. To ensure the success of this goal, the School will dedicate 100% of annual net operating surplus to the following year’s deferred maintenance activities during the implementation period of this strategic vision. Trinity-Pawling’s educational and community experience will be strengthened through priority capital maintenance projects, which will be supported through the School’s fundraising initiatives. The School will continually assess and improve upon safety, physical plant, and technology protocols.
STRATEGIC GOAL
RESOURCES
Trinity-Pawling School will continue to expand its financial resources to assure its leadership role as the next-generation school for boys. To sustain a leadership role in boys’ education, Trinity-Pawling will expand its outreach and engagement with the larger community to gain support in meeting the School’s financial objectives. An emphasis will be placed on increasing annual fund participation rates from alumni, parents, and friends, as well as increasing the School’s gross endowment to $110,000,000 by 2031. Trinity-Pawling will continue to develop and assess enrollment strategies that will ensure its financial stability and strength of the student body.
The next-generation school for boys is here, in an academic community that thinks ahead, looks forward, and attains transformational results. To learn more about the Strategic Vision for Trinity-Pawling, write to Bill Taylor at headofschool@trinitypawling.org.
