LOWER SCHOOL ACCELERATED MATH CLUB
CROSS CHEER CHEERLEADING CAMP!
Brush up on your skills or jump to the head of the class! The Accelerated Math Club provides group and individual lessons plus assignments designed to meet the specific needs of each student. A computerized test given the first day of class will determine each child’s individual ability and enable the coach to customize a program of study targeting his or her needs. Prizes are awarded to students who master math objectives and meet goals. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend the first day for a brief orientation.
Give me an F - U - N! What’s that spell? FUN! That’s what all campers at Cross Cheer cheerleading camps will have as they are introduced to cheerleading in a Christ-centered atmosphere. Campers will learn basic cheer techniques, including motions, jumps, cheers, tumbling, stunting and a dance to music throughout the week. Girls are separated into teams (based on age) for personalized coaching and will develop a routine within that team for performance day. Crafts, snacks, games and interactive devotionals are interlaced throughout each camp day to make learning about cheerleading and Jesus a blast! Look forward to an end-of-camp performance the last 30 minutes of camp on Friday! To find out more information and to register for this camp go to www.CrossCheer.com.

This workshop will focus on the art of crafting the college application essay, a requirement for most college applications. It may be only 500 words, but the admissions essay portion of a college application can mean the difference between acceptance and rejection. How you write your personal essay shows the admissions committee why you are different from everyone else. It provides information about you that test scores, grades and extracurricular pursuits just cannot. Students are encouraged to bring in college application essay prompts from colleges of their choosing, and we will walk through each step of writing this essay—from gathering ideas, to drafting the actual essay, to editing and revising the final copy. Students will see first-hand what makes an essay of this type successful or unsuccessful by examining a number of essays and writing, studying and critiquing their own. Join this workshop and learn how to effectively and persuasively make your application essay stand out from the crowd!

TECHNOLOGY Summer school for-credit “tech” courses are designed to help students ease the congestion of the regular school year by “off-lining” some of their required courses to the summer. Other students may simply wish to augment their education or explore new interests. All courses are hands-on, project-oriented and focus on real-life scenarios and applications. Often projects integrate topics from other TCA courses for extra reinforcement! Regardless of where you are in the technology spectrum, we offer something for you! Reasonable keyboarding skills are presumed. Generally speaking, all assignments are completed in class with very little (if any) outside work required. Parents take note! If you wish to explore these interests, too, you are welcome to join us! See US Technology Head Kent Pendleton for details. All summer school technology students are requested to bring their TI calculators, a
spiral notebook (journal), a three-ring binder, a pencil, pen and USB flash drive to class the first day. A “supply check” that first day will be one of your first grades for the week, so don’t forget your stuff! Also, please bring a sack lunch and a drink . . . refrigerators will be available. Proficiency with Excel is critical in the business world and is an assumed skill in most college environments. Students will learn and practice the basic functionalities of Excel 2010 to design documents that convey both numerical and non-numerical information in interesting, clear and captivating formats. Charts and graphs will aesthetically summarize information. They will learn how to create formulas from scratch and utilize built-in formulas from Excel’s vast array of built-in functions. When possible, students will use their own TI calculators to assist their understanding of their spreadsheet designs.
In addition to the static languages of the web (HTML5, CSS), there are other languages that let your web page actually do something beyond display information. JavaScript, and HTML5 allow a user to add some ‘zing’ to a web page by providing graphics that can be manipulated with user commands. The exciting possibility allows a platform for game development! See how this is done and get a taste of what computer programming is all about! We will use DreamweaverCS6, and other platforms to get our web pages to do tricks and rudimentary games.
