Prizes are awarded to students who master math objectives and meet goals. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend the first day for a brief orientation. Maximum enrollment is 15 students.
Cross Cheer cheerleading camps introduce young girls to cheerleading in a Christ-centered atmosphere. Campers will learn basic cheer techniques including motions, jumps, cheers, tumbling, stunting and a dance to music. Crafts, snacks, games and interactive devotionals are interlaced throughout each camp day to make learning about cheerleading and Jesus a blast! Look forward to an end-of-camp performance the last 30 minutes of camp. To find out more information and to register for this camp go to www.CrossCheer.com.

UPPER SCHOOL BEYOND AP PHYSICS MECHANICS
COLLEGE APPLICATION ESSAY WRITING WORKSHOP
This course is open to anyone who has completed AP Physics. The goals of the course are to cover Physics topics not covered in the AP course and prepare students for taking the SAT Physics Subject Test. Topics covered will include waves, optics, electricity & magnetism, and modern physics.
This workshop will focus on the art of crafting the college application essay, a requirement for most college applications. It may be only 500 words, but the admissions essay portion of a college application can mean the difference between acceptance and rejection. How you write your personal essay shows the admissions committee why you are different from everyone else. It provides information about you that test scores, grades and extracurricular pursuits just cannot. Students are encouraged to bring in college application essay prompts from colleges of their choosing, and we will walk through each step of writing this essay—from gathering ideas, to drafting the actual essay, to editing and revising the final copy. Students will see first-hand what makes an essay of this type successful or unsuccessful by examining a number of essays and writing, studying and critiquing their own. Join this workshop and learn how to effectively and persuasively make your application essay stand out from the crowd! Enrollment is limited to 16 students.

TECHNOLOGY Summer school for-credit “tech” courses are designed to help students ease the congestion of the regular school year by “off-lining” some of their required courses to the summer. Other students may simply wish to augment their education or explore new interests. All courses are hands-on, project-oriented and focus on real-life scenarios and applications. Often projects integrate topics from other TCA courses for extra reinforcement! Regardless of where you are in the technology spectrum, we offer something for you! Reasonable keyboarding skills are presumed. Generally speaking, all assignments are completed in class with very little (if any) outside work required. Parents take note! If you wish to explore these interests, too, you are welcome to join us! See US Technology Head Kent Pendleton for details. Teachers, do you need to improve your technology skills? Join us! You can learn the practical uses of software and get some professional growth hours in as well. Use software to make your professional life easier. All summer school technology students are requested to bring their TI calculators, a spiral notebook (journal), a three-ring binder, a pencil, pen and USB flash drive to class the first day. A “supply check” that first day will be one of your first grades for the week, so don’t forget your stuff! Also, please bring a sack lunch and a drink...refrigerators will be available. Students will also bring snacks to class on a rotating basis. Credit cannot be given if a student misses more than four hours of class.

In addition to the static languages of the web (HTML5, CSS), there are other languages that let your web page actually do something beyond display information. JavaScript and HTML5 allow a user to add some ‘zing’ to a web page by providing graphics that can be manipulated with user commands. The exciting possibility allows a platform for game development. See how this is done and get a taste of what computer programming is all about. We will use Dreamweaver Creative Cloud, and other platforms to get our web pages to do tricks and rudimentary games.
Instructor: Kent Pendleton
INTERMEDIATE WEB PAGE PROGRAMMING – PHP, MySQL and Dynamic Database-Driven Websites (Honors)
INTRO TO SPREADSHEET DESIGN Section 1: June 19-23, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Entering grades: 9-12 Fee: $415 (includes the cost of a textbook) Prerequisites: Algebra 1 (Pre, Co-requisite) 1 Trimester of Upper School Technology credit Parents/teachers are welcome in this class.
Proficiency with Excel is critical in the business world and is an assumed skill in most college environments. Students will learn and practice the basic functionalities of Excel (Office 365) to design documents that convey both numerical and non-numerical information in interesting, clear and captivating formats. Charts and graphs will aesthetically summarize information. They will learn how to create formulas from scratch and utilize built-in formulas from Excel’s vast array of built-in functions.
Instructor: Susan Jackson
The following classes are also offered for credit but are more advanced than the preceding classes:

Once you can create a webpage, make it look ‘nice’ with Photoshop and CSS and get it to do some tricks with JavaScript, the next step is giving it the ability to store and retrieve information from an online database. Once you can do this, the design (and consulting) possibilities are unlimited! PHP and MySQL are technologies that allow you to manipulate, store, retrieve and process data that can dynamically change the fabric of a webpage and allow a user to experience all the features of a modern web experience. Many former TCA students have used this knowledge to begin real-life consulting careers in high school. Join us in this valuable class!
Instructor: Kent Pendleton
The ability to manipulate, design, store and create images is central in effective electronic and written communication. Participants will learn how to use Photoshop Creative Cloud as a tool to create and manipulate images for placement in documents, media presentations, web pages and mobile apps. No prior experience with Photoshop is required. This course would be ideal for students interested in yearbook.
Instructor: Kent Pendleton
INTRO TO WEB PAGE DESIGN (Honors)
Section 1: June 12-16, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Entering grades: 8-12 Fee: $415 (includes cost of a textbook) Prerequisites: Either Introduction to Business Graphic Design, Digital Art, Yearbook or Introduction to Multimedia or proof of proficiency with Photoshop and/or department head approval 1 Trimester of Upper School Technology credit Parents/teachers are welcome in this class.
The languages of the web: HTML5 and CSS3 will be explored as we write web pages “from scratch” and utilize web-authoring software (Dreamweaver Creative Cloud and/or Brackets) to expedite their design. Images will be crafted to make web pages appear ‘seamless and students will learn principles to make their web pages ‘stand out’ as professional and polished.

ATHLETICS Athletic Development Training ESSENTIAL FOR ALL ATHLETES
Athletes need to be developed. Expecting them to “just be ready” or to get in shape during season is preparing them to fail. No other program will prepare your athlete for his or her future in sports at TCA or outside of school better than the summer program at TCA with Team DX3. All athletes need self-confidence, development and “know-how” to safely prepare to perform. Skill is essential, but the speed and strength at which those skills are executed determines the level of play. Summer Athletic Development Training gives athletes the best opportunity to learn, develop and master safe, technically sound training practices. Athletes will make tremendous improvements in athleticism while gaining confidence in a fun, safe environment with peers. They will be better prepared for their sports and learn principles that will serve them well long after the summer. Be confident, be fast, be strong…be a DX3 Athlete!
