Welcome to our 2023 Summer@TCA!

We are excited to offer our most diverse and enriching menu of classes ever! Trinity Christian Academy has made a commitment to deliver programs through the summer months that will support learning, enhance skills and even brighten the sunniest Texas summer day! TCA is committed to share the highest quality classes and camps with children in the safest possible way while attempting to create an overall program that is convenient for our families that choose to attend.

Summer should be a fun time for children and a nice break from the rigors and routines of the academic year. TCA recognizes it is important for kids to be able to connect with other children for their overall wellbeing while balancing an ever-growing need to stay on academic track during the “off months.” Summer@TCA is proud to offer high quality Lower School and Middle School programs that include a day camp for Lower School kids, sports training sessions for both lower-schoolers and middle-schoolers and various academic enrichment opportunities so kids can hone those skills and stay on top of their academic progress during the summer. Upper School students can choose from a variety of classic summer school courses that potentially count for school credit, may give a student some necessary guidance with next year’s subject matter or may just give our young adults an opportunity to explore a new area of interest.

Take some time to look through the list of camps and classes and their descriptions as outlined in the Summer@TCA catalog to see what’s available for your child during the summer of 2023. Registration for summer sessions can be accessed online through the TCA website and on the Summer@TCA Resource Board.

General Schedule Information:

• Before-camp care is available for anyone needing care before 8:50 each day starting at 8 a.m. This service is provided at a rate of $25 per week.

• Children entering grades K–5 can choose to stay all day (9 a.m.–4 p.m.) at our Trojan Day Camp! Small, grade-level groupings will remain at camp all day (there is not a half-day option) and rotate through amazing summer activities that will include worship time, art, movement, STEM, Bible study and maybe even some water activities and inflatables throughout the week! Space is limited!

• Lower School and Middle School students can choose from a wide variety of “morning only” camps (9 a.m.–noon) and “afternoon only” camps (1–4 p.m.).

• Half-day campers can choose to extend their day by one hour if they so choose to stay for lunch from noon–1 p.m. each day. Students will be supervised while they eat and will then be given time to play and/or watch a movie (depending on the weather). There is a $25 fee per week for half-day campers to stay for lunch. We will require all participants to pack their own lunch.

• We will run a carpool pick-up line at noon for those students leaving campus at that time.

• Students who will attend an afternoon camp on the same day they will be on campus for a morning session should plan to pack a lunch and stay with us noon–1 p.m. for that same fun lunchtime experience. There is a $25 fee for the week to campers who are staying on campus between morning and afternoon camps for the lunch session.

• Students who might choose to attend an “afternoon only” camp or class are also welcome to join their grade level for lunch at noon each day. Those students will be directed to their afternoon camp/class location at the conclusion of the lunch/ recess session. The $25 weekly fee is required for those students wanting to extend their time to eat lunch at Summer@TCA.

• At 1 p.m., all campers not attending an afternoon only session or a full-day camp session will be conveniently picked up through a staff-run carpool line outside the Upper School building.

• Students staying through the afternoon will be conveniently picked up through a carpool pick-up line at 4 p.m. each day.

• Upper School students have a nice variety of classes to choose from throughout the summer as well as the option to participate in athletic training sessions.

We are excited to see your child at Summer@TCA 2023!

Thank you,

Eligibility

• Open enrollment to any child entering kindergarten (five years old by Sept. 1, 2023) through twelfth grade in fall 2023 as listed in the Summer@TCA catalog.

• Most classes have a maximum student-toinstructor ratio of 12:1.

• Camps are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and all offerings have a limited number of spaces available.

• All students participating in summer programming are required to have a completed registration form which includes information on those authorized to pick up campers from the school on a daily basis.

• All registrations are processed online through CampBrain and can be accessed through the TCA website.

Payment, Refunds, Cancellations and Confirmations

• The full camp fee is due upon registration.

• Refunds requested in writing at least two weeks prior to a camp will be honored, less a 25% administrative fee. No refunds are available two weeks or less from the start date of a camp.

• If a camp or class is canceled by the school for any reason, a refund for an appropriate portion of that camp will be issued to the participant.

• Campers’ first choices will be honored, if possible. Full refunds will be given if a camp is canceled due to low enrollment and no alternative camp can be agreed upon.

• You should assume that your registration is confirmed unless we contact you prior to the start date. We will contact all registrants whose schedules need adjustments (if a camp is under-enrolled or if your child can be added from a wait list) two weeks prior to the start date of the scheduled camp session to arrange the necessary changes.

• Students registered for camps and classes through Summer@TCA will be contacted by a coach, teacher, or administrator no less than a week prior to the start of the camp to fill you in on all the latest details.

More Schedule Information

• All morning campers will be escorted to the Upper School Cafeteria after their morning session for a supervised lunch, movie and/or playground time from noon to 1 p.m. at (A $25 fee for the week will be charged for those who choose to stay for the lunch hour.) If your child needs to be picked up earlier than the 1 p.m. carpool, please park in the north lot behind the Upper School and call the number posted on the signs to alert us you have arrived to pick up your child.

• Following lunch and recess, all students will be directed to their 1 p.m. class/camp or to carpool pick-up if they are not attending afternoon sessions.

• 1 p.m. carpool will run outside the Upper School.

• Those campers who attend an afternoon session will be directed to afternoon carpool at 4 p.m. where parents can conveniently pick up through the line. If a student needs to leave camp earlier than 4 p.m., parents must park in the north lot behind the Upper School and call the number posted on the signs to alert us you have arrived to pick up your child.

Lunch and Snack

• All campers staying between noon and 1 p.m. will need to pack a lunch to be eaten on campus with their grade-level group Monday–Friday.

• Each child will also need to bring a snack or snacks and drink. This applies to morning, afternoon and full-day sessions.

• It is highly recommended that all campers bring a water bottle to camp each day.

Drop-off and Pick-up

• Carpool drop-off will run 8:45-9:10 a.m. and 12:45-1:10 p.m. Monday-Friday of each camp week.

• Carpool pick-up lines run at noon, 1 p.m. and 4 p.m each camp day.

• Please print your carpool sign from the camp confirmation email received prior to the start of your child’s camp week and place it on the dashboard of your vehicle. This indicates to us that you are the legal pick-up person for the child who is listed on the sign.

• If you should need to pick your child up at any other time during the camp day, please contact the telephone number posted on the signs around campus to determine the location of your child.

• If anyone other than those listed on the registration page is going to pick up your child from camp, you will need to provide a note granting permission to another person.

Safety, Discipline and Misconduct

• The safety of each camper is of utmost importance to TCA. All camp safety rules must be followed by each camper.

• There is no supervision for students who are not enrolled in a class or camp. All students on campus must be enrolled in a class or camp, unless they are conducting other official business while on TCA premises.

• Students participating in Summer@TCA are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior that will not interfere with the educational environment nor detract from our religious purposes. All campers are expected to follow TCA’s Parent and Student Handbook. A copy of the handbook is available upon request.

• TCA staff reserves the right to dismiss any camper whose conduct, behavior or actions are inappropriate.

• No refund will be provided to any camper who is removed from a class for disciplinary reasons.

Dress Code

• The dress code at Summer@TCA is casual but should not cause a distraction. No offensive or foul language is allowed on any items. Staff at Summer@TCA reserves the right to dismiss any camper for inappropriate dress.

More Than a Teacher provides locally-owned test prep programs designed to help students reach their potential on standardized college entrance exams. We strive to maximize student scores with a minimum of long-term prep and repeat testing, preferring to focus on practical strategies a student can easily make use of on test day. Our full course students typically see an increase of a little over 100 points on the PSAT and close to 3 points on the ACT.

Our summer school ACT course is geared toward students taking the June 2023 ACT, and our summer school PSAT course is geared students taking the redesigned PSAT in the fall of 2023.

As part of our program, we allow students who have come through a class to return and take all or part of that class as a refresher, as many times as needed, at no extra charge! Additionally, because we know students are busy, we provide flexibility by allowing students to mix and match and attend classes from different schedules and at different locations, as availability allows. Looking for a make-up class? Visit www.dfwtestprep.com to see our schedule of classes in your area. In addition to make-up classes, we also offer free weekend tutorials for students looking for extra help.

Trinity Christian Academy is well known for its exceptional writing program. Our students consistently report that the skills learned at TCA have given them an edge at the university level. Students at TCA begin to develop these skills during their middle school years. While the freshman teachers ensure student writing success at the high school level, we have found that students entering TCA after the freshman year may not get sufficient experience to develop their skills equivalent with their TCA peers. The TCA History/English Department is offering a summer writing workshop to teach the writing concepts used at TCA and give students occasion to write. Students are also invited to join the class if they would like an opportunity to up their writing game. We highly recommend that all new incoming sophomores, juniors and seniors take advantage of this opportunity. Students do not need to sign up for all six sessions. One session will give them an overview of our writing program and help them to be prepared to write successfully in their history/English class. Limited to 10 students per seminar.

Summer@TCA 2023 | UPPER SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY 21

Upper School Technology

Summer school for-credit “tech” courses are designed to help students ease the congestion of the regular school year by “off-lining” some of their required courses to the summer. Other students may simply wish to augment their education or explore new interests. All courses are hands-on, project-oriented and focus on real-life scenarios and applications. Often projects integrate topics from other TCA courses for extra reinforcement. Regardless of where you are in the technology spectrum, we offer something for you. Reasonable keyboarding skills are presumed. Generally speaking, all assignments are completed in class with very little (if any) outside work required.

Parents take note: If you wish to explore these interests too, you are welcome to join us. See US Technology Head Kent Pendleton for details.

Teachers, do you need to improve your technology skills? Join us. You can learn the practical uses of software and get some professional growth hours in, as well. Use software to make your professional life easier.

All summer school technology students are requested to bring their TI calculators, a spiral notebook (journal), a three-ring binder, a pencil, pen and USB flash drive to class the first day. A “supply check” that first day will be one of your first grades for the week, so don’t forget your stuff! Also, please bring a sack lunch and a drink... refrigerators will be available. Students will also bring snacks to class on a rotating basis.

Credit cannot be given if a student misses more than four hours of class.

The following introductory classes are designed for “beginners” with very little background, confidence or proficiency in the use of contemporary software:

Head TCA swim coach Sean Sell will transport the swimmers to and from the Bent Tree pool just off the TCA campus where he will run them through some lap drills and help them improve their stroke techniques. This is a great introduction to or continuation of swim team skills! Enrollment is limited to 12 students per section.

Wrestling creates character. Competing in one-on-one format is personal, and it is very humbling as we help athletes develop the skills to compete. We will help them learn from defeat by encouraging them on what they have developed and applied. We will celebrate victories as they compete, while exercising good sportsmanship and giving the results to God. This camp will only be a small taste of the journey they will experience competing in this great sport in the future. When an athlete begins this journey, a new level of commitment will be established. Through dedication and determination, coupled with discipline, the armor of God and prayer, this sport will help prepare these young boys as they walk with us through the tempering process God has in store for them to become sound men of God. Enrollment is limited to 20 students per section.

Middle/Upper School Athletic Training

Athletic Development Training—Essential for All Athletes

Athletes need to be developed. Expecting them to “just be ready” or to get in shape during season is preparing them to fail. No other program will prepare your athlete for his or her future in sports at TCA better than the summer program at TCA with Motive8 Athletics. All athletes need self-confidence, development and “know-how” to safely prepare to perform. Skill is essential, but the speed and strength at which those skills are executed determines the level of play. Summer Athletic Development Training gives athletes the best opportunity to learn, develop and master safe, technically sound training practices. Athletes will make tremendous improvements in athleticism and fitness while gaining confidence in a fun, safe environment with peers. They will be better prepared for their sports and learn principles that will serve them well long after the summer.

Pricing Format: Come as much as you can all summer for $250. The goal is to get all athletes training throughout the entire summer! Come often and bring friends.
