SWANSEA LEARNING FESTIVAL Celebration of learning opportunities across Swansea

More than 100 free events are being planned as part of a major city-wide festival showcasing and celebrating learning for all ages in Swansea. The ambitious Swansea Learning Festival will take place in traditional learning venues such as colleges, schools and community centres but also in some more unusual locations including shops, restaurants and outdoor areas. The aim is to showcase the many different learning opportunities available to young people and adults and to increase participation. Activities will include interactive taster sessions, exhibitions, demonstrations, classes, workshops and seminars.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths Do you have the right skills for your future? The Foundation Year, which is also offered as a stand-alone CertHE, is designed to allow students to gain the skills required for entry onto our BSc/BEng Programmes in the Faculty of Architecture, Computing and Engineering. All Foundation STEM programmes have common core modules offering instruction in skills such as maths, science and academic writing. Each subject has specialised modules relating to the area of study. Certificate of Higher Education: Skills for the Workplace We have daytime courses, and evening and weekend courses in various community locations across South Wales. This one year university programme, requires life experience rather than educational certificates at interview and is an ideal return to Higher Education for those that didn’t have the opportunity earlier in life. It focuses on teaching those generic skills required by employers and for progression in the workplace, with every assignment specifically linked to real life situations. This accessible and flexible programme has modules covering Academic and Employability Skills, Effective Team Working and Communication, Digital Skills and Research Methods, Problem Solving and Decision Making and Professional Career Development plus additional options that enable you to focus your studies around a specific workplace.

Foundation Degree Inclusive Studies for Teaching Assistants Evening sessions at St. Thomas Primary School The Foundation Degree in Inclusive Studies is specifically suited for Teaching Assistants. It is a 3-year course and lectures are delivered on Saturday at the Carmarthen Campus or in your local community on twilight sessions. Completion of this degree could lead to more responsibilities in the workplace. Work can be completed in either Welsh or English and there is an opportunity to complete the whole degree course through the medium of Welsh. Opportunity to study for a further 1 year and do the BA Social Inclusion (Inclusive Education) course which is again offered as a flexible provision and delivered on Saturdays or as twilight sessions.

Early Years Education and Care Early Years Practitioner Status - 2 Years This programme is designed for students already working in the childcare and education sector, and allows them to study flexibly around their work commitments. It is an innovative, condensed full-time, two-year degree programme which is included in the Social Care Wales’ list of required qualifications to work within the early years and childcare sector in Wales. You will graduate with a degree, as well as a licence to practice within a range of early years settings. Lectures are delivered one evening a week and on occasional Saturdays in order to enable students to carry on working while completing their degree. BSc Mental Health Weekend and evening delivery Build your understanding of how and why individuals may develop mental health difficulties. Learn the theory, develop research skills and build your knowledge on the ethical and professional issues pertinent to the field of mental health and well-being. With the NHS being the largest employer in Wales and the focus of Mental Health on the Welsh and Central Government Agenda, this programme can develop a strong set of employability skills that can help individuals enter a range of mental health-related professions.

CISCO IT ACADEMY As a Cisco Networking Academy® the IQ building offers hands-on experience and full access to Cisco routers, switches, firewalls and software used within networking and security industry. Classes run in the evening 5.30 to 8.30pm. The CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum is designed for students who are seeking entry-level ICT jobs or plan to pursue more specialized ICT skills. CCNA® Security course provides a next step for individuals who want to enhance their Cisco CCENT® certification-level skill set and help meet the growing demand for network security professionals. CCNP Routing and Switching curriculum provides career-oriented, comprehensive coverage of enterprise-level networking skills, including advanced routing, switching and troubleshooting, while providing opportunities for hands-on practical experience and soft-skills development.

SWANSEA LEARNING FESTIVAL AT CREATIVE BUBBLE Creative Bubble will be taking part in Swansea Learning Festival by opening its doors to run a series of FREE friendly workshops managed by UWTSD staff and students. Creative Bubble is a University of Wales Trinity Saint David and Swansea BID initiative that encourages students to try out creative ideas and projects. It is also a space where they share their work with the public. All the workshops listed below are free (materials provided) and people can sign up by emailing lucy.beddall@uwtsd.ac.uk They are all suitable for beginners and are open to everyone. The sessions will allow you to explore our specialist facilities allowing you to develop your portfolio. All work produced can be used for GCSE/A-Level portfolios. All materials will be provided.
