The range of subjects available is appropriate to the overall high academic standards of our pupils. In the early years, the emphasis is on acquiring skills in a wide variety of subjects. At GCSE and in the Sixth Form, the subjects available are designed to keep as many options open as possible in order to give each student an opportunity to study a broad range of academic or vocational subjects at university. For each year group a comprehensive programme of PSHE, Citizenship, life skills and other enrichment opportunities is provided, including visiting speakers, industry conferences, residential courses, Field Days, Business Awareness Days, Team Building, Outward Bound, and other activities. ENTRANCE TO TRINITY IN 2019

Entrance to Trinity in 2019 The selection process for entry, other than to the Sixth Form, is based on three sources of information: an entrance examination, interview, and a reference from the pupil’s present school. About 40% of our pupils come from other independent schools, 60% from state primary schools. The entrance examination is designed to suit both. AGE OF ENTRY There are four main ages for entry: • at 10+ (over 10 but under 11 on 1st September of year of entry), into the Junior Form: approximately 45 boys • at 11+ (over 11 but under 12 on 1st September of year of entry), into the First Form: approximately 80 boys • at 13+ (over 13 but under 14 on 1st September of year of entry), into the Third Form: no set number • at 16+, into the Sixth Form: no set number. • Entry at other ages may be possible if a vacancy occurs. Additional information for Sixth Form applicants is published separately.

Why apply for 10+ entry? The Junior Form offers a wide variety of exciting experiences for eager, energetic ten-year-olds. Boys will benefit enormously from an extra year of intellectual challenges, without the distraction of being constantly prepared for SATS or 11+ exams and they can also take advantage of the huge range of co-curricular activities on offer. Another reason to apply for 10+ entry is that, with a smaller number of boys joining at 10+, boys soon get to know each other well and this helps them to become used to the environment of a larger school. If they are not awarded a place at 10+ then they can try again at 11+ with a better understanding of what is required; very often, another year’s experience is all they need to succeed.

Why apply for 13+ entry? The majority of pupils applying at 13+ do so because they wish to take advantage of the opportunities provided by their son’s current prep school in Years 7 and 8, particularly the positions of responsibility they can hold in the school at this level. Very occasionally, boys who were unsuccessful in the 11+ exam reapply at 13+. Parents of boys already in state secondary schools may feel that at 13+ their sons will benefit from the balance of a rigorous academic education alongside a caring ethos and an outstanding range of extra-curricular activities. ENTRANCE EXAMINATION The dates of the entrance examinations are as follows: 11+ Friday 4th January 2019 10+ and 13+ Saturday 5th January 2019 The closing date for all applications is Monday 26th November 2018. Applications are subject to a £90 application fee, payable via Wisepay. Late applications are permitted under special circumstances and incur an additional administration fee of £20. At 10+, 11+ and 13+ the following papers are set: English Comprehension and Essay – 1 hour Mathematics – 1 hour Verbal Reasoning test – 1 hour These papers take into account the National Curriculum, and sample questions for English and Mathematics may be obtained from the Admissions Registrar, or can be downloaded from our website.

We have found every dealing with the school to be above and beyond our expectations

ENTRANCE TO TRINITY IN 2019

Joining Trinity INTERVIEWS The interview is an important part of our admissions process for 10+, 11+ and 13+. Interviews are a one-to-one conversation between boys and a member of our teaching staff. They are a great opportunity for us to get to know your son better. The interview may cover general topics, or may be specific to Maths or English. Please note that only boys that are being considered for a place will be interviewed, and not all those interviewed will be offered a place.

Offers of places Offers of 10+, 11+ and 13+ places are likely to be posted to parents on 14th February 2019, in accordance with an 11+ agreement between Trinity Group schools. Parents will be asked to reply within a few days. If parents need to hear before this date, perhaps because they have been made an offer by a nonTrinity Group school and are being pressed for a definitive reply, they should contact the Admissions Registrar.

Special needs

All such cases are dealt with on an individual basis, and the purpose of such meetings is to establish whether the School best meets the needs of that particular pupil. If awarded a place, boys for whom English is a second language may receive some additional EAL teaching.

School Policies You may wish to know that the School’s website makes available policies on arrangements for admissions, discipline and exclusions, provision for pupils with statements of special educational needs and English as an additional language, curriculum, health and safety of pupils and our policy on safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils. In addition the School’s website includes details of the School’s academic performance in the preceding year, details of our formal complaints procedure and the number of complaints registered under this in the preceding school year and a full staff list, including temporary staff, and their qualifications. Copies of any school policy may also be inspected at the School’s Reception or will be sent to you on request.

Trinity endeavours to make any reasonable adjustments to the admissions procedure to enable disabled candidates and applicants with other special needs to compete for a place at the School without disadvantage. The School offers a limited amount of specialist support and also welcomes boys with mobility problems – the whole site is equipped for access by wheelchair. Parents are asked to contact the Director of Admissions to discuss adjustments that are desirable to meet their son’s specific needs. If necessary, a meeting will be arranged at school to discuss provision for the candidate’s needs throughout the admissions process and, presuming a successful outcome to the application, during his subsequent time at the school. While the school attempts to meet the costs of all reasonable adjustments, it reserves the right to charge for additional services.

Visiting the School

Candidates with special needs may be allowed additional time in the entrance examinations at the discretion of the Director of Admissions. Documentary evidence, such as a current Educational Psychologist’s report, should be submitted to the school together, with the application form.

admissions@trinity.croydon.sch.uk www.trinity-school.org

Where necessary, for applicants who have existing statements of special educational needs, a meeting may take place between the School and the applicant’s parents prior to the entrance examination and, if appropriate, with the relevant educational authority. 10 : www.trinity-school.org | PROSPECTUS SUPPLEMENT 2019

Our main Open Morning is on Saturday 6th October 2018, 9am – 12 noon, for which booking is not necessary. Tours taking place during normal school days are also available throughout the Autumn and Summer terms, during which small groups of prospective pupils, and their parents, have the opportunity to meet the Headmaster. Please contact the Admissions Registrar to book a place. All admission enquiries should be addressed to the Admissions Registrar:

ENTRANCE TO TRINITY IN 2019 FEES The School fee for 2018-19 is £17,448. The fee for 2019-2020 has yet to be set, but will be confirmed at the end of June 2019. The following costs are not covered by the fees: lunches, uniform, external examination entry fees, individual music tuition, and part-cost of a small number of excursions away from school. Fees may be paid by monthly Direct Debit. A deposit of £800 is payable on acceptance of a place. This will be retained in full until the pupil leaves, when it will be refunded less any balance owing to the School. Parents who fail to take up their son’s place will lose their deposit. FEE REDUCTION A large number of scholarships and Whitgift Foundation bursaries are available. SCHOLARSHIPS There are several types of scholarship award: Academic, Music, Sport, Drama, Art and Design Technology. • All boys sit the same entrance examination papers for their appropriate age group. There is no special or additional scholarship examination. • The awards are made without regard to parental income and are worth a percentage of the School fees up to a maximum of 50%, although awards of this level are rare. The scholarship will remain throughout a pupil’s school career provided he maintains the expected standards and level of commitment.

Academic Scholarships Any pupil applying for admission to Trinity will automatically be considered for an academic scholarship. This applies equally to applicants for entry at 10+, 11+, 13+, Sixth Form or other ages of admission. No separate form is required. For entry to the Sixth Form the scholarship award is based on GCSE performance. For all others the award is based on: a) Performance in the standard Entrance Examination papers. b) An interview, which may incorporate additional tests. c) A reference from the pupil’s current school.

Music Scholarships Music scholarships are awarded to boys who show exceptional musical promise on at least one instrument. Most candidates are between Grade 3 and Grade 5 on their principal instrument. Boys who perform well enough in the entrance examination to be invited for interview may also be invited to audition in late January or early February of the year of entry. Two types of award are given: Music Scholarships – Up to 50% remission of the school fee; free music tuition on two instruments (tuition at school or with a private teacher); free loan of orchestral instruments. Music Tuition Awards – Free music tuition on two instruments (tuition at school or with a private teacher); free loan of orchestral instruments. A separate form must be completed and returned at the time of application.

• Even if a Whitgift Foundation bursary has been awarded, a scholarship may also be given. • A pupil who pays reduced fees because of a bursary may also be awarded an honorary scholarship, which can be implemented should the bursary award be reduced in subsequent years. • Scholarship application forms can be downloaded from the website, or requested from the Admissions Registrar.

Trinity achieves excellent academic and sporting standards combined with quite exceptional pastoral care Parent
