Stettler, Ponoka and Wainwright have challenged Rocky Mountain House to a Walk ‘n’ Roll “I’m Just Less Driven” friendly competition this summer! Which town can register the most destinations reached by walking/biking (therefore being “less driven” by vehicles)? It’s simple: Walk or bike to a destination.

(This is not about going for a walk/bike ride for pure exercise. It’s about using walking and biking as your transportation to a destination.)

Leave your car at home. Register your trips each week on our website:

www.rockymtnhouse.com The length of trip is not important. It’s only important that you reached a destination by walking or biking. Each “to” and “from” is considered a separate trip. Monthly draws for a Walk ‘n’ Roll “I’m Just Less Driven” Prize package from all participants. Great for you! Great for our air! Great for the planet! The challenge goes from May 1 to August 31. Organized by the Stettler Heartland Beautification Committee, Ponoka Recreation Department and the Rocky Mountain House Recreation Department. For more information, contact: 403-845-3720 or email ltchir@rockymtnhouse.com

Pool Program Details

Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Preschool

Age 4 Months - 6 Years

The Preschool Program works to ensure children become comfortable in the water and have fun developing a foundation of water skills. Activities to teach Water Smart® education key messages are incorporated into all levels.

Parent/Tot 1 (4-12 months) Parent/Tot 2 (12-24 months) Parent/Tot 3 (24-36 months) The Parent & Tot Program structures inwater interaction between parent and child to stress the importance of play in developing water-positive attitudes and skills. Activities and progressions are based on child development, so parents register in the level appropriate for their child’s age.

Dolphin (3-6 years)

Dolphin is the third unparented preschool level. In this level children will learn how to glide and float without assistance up to a distance of 5m. Deep water activities are also introduced in this level with lifejackets.

Squid (3-6 years)

Swordfish (3-6 years)

Squid is the first unparented swimming lesson. Children will learn to be comfortable in the water, get their face wet, blow bubbles, and learn basic floats with assistance.

Swordfish is the second preschool level that is unparented. However, this level is recommended as the starting point if your child is comfortable with their face being submerged in the pool and able to float on their own. Children will learn how to glide through the water and will be introduced to flutter kick.

Orca (3-6 years)

Shark (3-6 years)

Orca is the fourth unparented preschool level. In this level children are introduced to the basics of the Swim to Survive standards taught by the Lifesaving Society. 1. Jump into deep water. 2. Tread water 15 sec. 3. Swim 5m. They also start swimming longer distances and are introduced to front crawl.

Shark is the last unparented preschool level before they move on to the Swimmer levels. Swimmers will be introduced to back crawl, and will increase their distances for all swims. If they complete this level they can go into Swimmer 2 when 6 years old.

Lifesaving Society Adult Swimmer Program

Age 16 +

Adult 1 - Beginner

Adult 3 - Advanced

The Adult Swimmer Program is for beginners or swimmers who want to improve their skills. Within the Adult Swimmer curriculum, participants set their own goals to develop water confidence and recognizable strokes.

Adult 1 follows the program from the lifesaving society where you will learn the basics of swimming successfully. This includes: breath control underwater, floating, gliding, kicking, and intro to deep water skills, front and back crawl.

Adult 2 - Intermediate

Adult 2 advances you through the Lifesaving Society’s swim program, by teaching you front crawl and back crawl techniques. You will also be introduced to Breast Stroke and enhance your deep water skills.

Adult 3 introduces you to interval training, and endurance swims. This will put you on the path to advancing your physical fitness in the water.

R E C R E AT I O N G R A N T F U N D I N G AVA I L A B L E North Saskatchewan and Raven Recreation Area Recreational organizations and groups that fall within the boundaries of the North Saskatchewan and Raven Recreation Areas are eligible for assistance with small projects and programming related to recreation. For the purposes of this fund, recreation shall refer to those projects that give opportunity to people of all ages to take part in healthy and beneficial activities. Examples of qualifying projects would be shale for ball diamonds, boards for ice rinks, updates to playground equipment, etc. Funds may also be put towards a larger recreational project that has had most funds raised through other sources. Operational or maintenance costs are not covered by these grants.

Application Procedure: A complete application form must be submitted to the correct recreation board as per location (see below map). All qualifying application packages will be reviewed, deliberated and grant funds allocated by the Recreation Board. Additional conditions can be applied as per the board’s discretion. The application deadline is June 1, 2022. To view the criteria guidelines, application form, or for a map of Clearwater County’s recreation districts. Please visit clearwatercounty.ca/grants

In evaluating the project, considerations will be given to: • Project readiness, including availability of resources • Prior grant funding allocation. • Organization’s need for financial assistance • Availability of grant funding. Applicants may receive full, reduced or no funding for their projects • Preference may be given to youth and senior programming. • Only fully completed applications will be brought to the Board for consideration.
