Stories in songs Note to the teacher
century
Telling stories with songs HAVE you ever sung a song and then realised that it may be telling a story? Have you wondered about the characters in it and their lives? Here’s a very famous song for children that you may have learnt in kindergarten.
learning skills
OUR children are riding the great wave of technology today. They now have facts and procedures at their fingertips. Teachers have to equip their students with new skills that allow them to thrive in today’s global economy. The activities in The Star’s Newspaper-in-Education pullout combine literacy skills with current content to build this set of skills. The key below indicates the skills integrated into the activities in this pullout.
Mary had a little lamb Its fleece was white as snow And everywhere that Mary went The lamb was sure to go It followed her to school one day Which was against the rule It made the children laugh and play To see a lamb at school The story in that song is about a girl named Mary who had a lamb. You may ask questions about the song. For example: How old was Mary? Where did she live? How did she get the lamb? What was the name of her lamb? Why did the lamb follow her to school? How did Mary feel? What did the teacher say? What happened after that?
