JUNE 2019 Written by Tatiana Solodova, Division 23 Lieutenant Governor
Lieutenant Governor's Greeting Hey Division 23! I hope everyone is doing well! For most of us, there’s still a week of school left. Finals are approaching quick, so I’ve been busy studying. There’s just have a little bit left to go, so we have to push through! Like everyone else, I’m really excited for summer. The first week of July I will be attending the International Convention in Baltimore with the rest of the New York District. I’m very excited to meet other Key Clubbers from our district and from other districts around the world, and I look forward to sharing what I learn with all of you guys! Other than that I’ll probably be spending the majority of summer break at the pool, for swim practice or just to relax. That being said, with summer in sight it is still important to remember your Key Club responsibilities. MRFs should still be filled out monthly, even over the summer. Your clubs won’t be as active, and many people will be out of town, but you could still hold a summer fundraiser. Bake sales, car washes, and carnivals are good ideas for fundraisers. That’s all I have for now, but you can always contact me with any questions!
Yours in Service, Tatiana Solodova Lt. Governor

Service Spotlights The Brighton High School Key Club - Division 23 On May 21st, Brighton Kiwanis held the AL Lewis Scholarship Spaghetti Dinner. It was held to help raise money for a scholarship which will be given to a graduating BHS senior. Brighton Key Club helped by cleaning tables and direct people, in addition to serving food. Each person got a choice of pasta, meatballs, salad, and a drink all of which they could eat there or take it to-go. I was assigned to stand outside the cafeteria door, direct people inside and take “drive-thru orders. I had a lot of fun running inside and going through the line for other people. I got to work with other Key Clubbers from Brighton along with people from the Helping Hands club and other Brighton students. I also got to meet a lot of Kiwanians who were helping out, including the Brighton Kiwanis president, Jordan Neuringer. It made me happy to see that people were enjoying the food we were serving and I liked talking with people who were stopping by. -Elena Solodova, Brighton High School Key Club Division 23
Service Spotlights … cont. Brighton Key Club - Division 23 On June 6th, Brighton Kiwanis held their fourth annual Food Truck Fundraiser at the Brighton High School. The money raised goes toward scholarships which are given out by Brighton Kiwanis each year. Brighton Key Club sold sunglasses at the Kiwanis tent.
General Brown Key Club - Division 24 In late May about 10 people in General Brown’s Key Club held a car wash from 1-4 to raise money for our account so we have more funds to get nicer materials for future service projects, that may be a little more pricey. Members that helped out are: Madison Curry, Conner Shuler-Hopper, Emma Gilligan, Caden Crosby, and Jenna McIntosh. In addition, we will take some of the $280 and donate after our club votes on a place. General Brown’s Key Club secretary Conner says, “It was really fun to have everyone helping out and washing cars... we all had our jobs that we would have to do which made the work go more quickly and fun making it a little contest.” Everyone one in GB’s Key Club ended up having a lot of fun, we all are really excited to see where the money gets donated to help a lot of people. - Madison Curry, General Brown High School Division 24

Special Olympics New York is an all inclusive athletic opportunity. Athletes with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to challenge themselves in fair and even competition. Win or lose, they develop their own character, make friends and find unknown wells of determination within themselves. Special Olympics pushes the message of inclusion, which is something that everyone can get behind. Website: https://www.specialolympics-ny.org/
