MAY 2019 Written by Tatiana Solodova, Division 23 Lieutenant Governor

Lieutenant Governor's Greeting Hey Division 23! I hope everyone is doing well! I know it’s the middle of AP week, but we just have to push through and it will be over soon. Make sure you are taking good care of yourselves. To those of you whom I haven’t introduced myself to, my name is Tatiana Solodova, and I will be serving as the NYDKC Division 23 Lieutenant Governor for the 20192020 service year! That just means I communicate between all 11 clubs in our division by sending out important information to club officers, and by helping clubs if any issues arise. To tell you a little bit about myself, I am a sophomore at Brighton High School. Along with Key Club, I also participate in Science Olympiad, and I’m on my high school’s Varsity swim team. One of my main goals this year is to establish more communication amongst the clubs in our division. I would like club officers and members to be comfortable with approaching me about any help you need because I am more than willing to help. I also want to increase club membership and participation at LTC. I had an amazing experience at this year’s Leadership Training Conference and I am hoping that more people from Division 23 will be interested in attending LTC next year. I'm so excited to see what this year has to hold, and I can't wait to work with every one of you!

Yours in Service, Tatiana Solodova Lt. Governor

New NYDKC Board I present to you the new 2019-2020 NYDKC Board! This year, we have a full board except for a division 14 LTG. The New York District is even more mighty than ever!

New Executive Board: Governor: Camille Brock Secretary: Linna Cheung Treasurer: Anthony Lim External Executive Assistant: Jaron Belmore Internal Executive Assistant: TIffany Chen Bulletin Editor: Angelo Lontok Webmaster: Ramisa Azad

Governor's Greeting Hello New York District Key Club! My name is Camille Brock and I am beyond excited to serve as your 2019-2020 District Governor. I’m currently in my junior year at Candor High School of Division 20. I served as their Lieutenant Governor for the 2018-2019 service year, and that’s what really inspired me to continue my journey into Key Club. Outside of Key Club and school work, you can find me in a few places. I’ll either be in the 6:1:1 classroom lending a helping hand, playing my saxophone or singing in the music rooms, getting coffee with my mom or friends, or watching Netflix and eating hot cheetos. In my term this year, I would like to focus on communication throughout the district and with other branches of the Kiwanis Family. I would like to increase our social media presence, utilize videos for our updates, and reach out to other branches of the Kiwanis Family more than we might’ve in the past. I’m so excited for the rest of this year with all of you and I’m really looking forward to everything we’re going to accomplish. Let’s make this year NYDKC’s year! Yours in service, Camille Brock 2019-2020 District Governor

LTC 2019 Recap This year was my first year attending LTC. I attended as the incoming Lieutenant Governor, and going into it, I didn't realize how huge Key Club and the New York District really were. I met so many new people and made so many friends. Everybody was so nice and very approachable. Through my experience, I learned a ton from other divisions across New York State, including where most of them are located, and I am really looking forward to sharing what I learned with all of you! I think LTC is an all around great experience for all Key Clubbers, and I am hoping more members from our division will be interested in attending the conference next year! -Tatiana Solodova, Lt. Governor Div. 23

LTC 2020 Theme:

Roaring 20-20's

Hi! My name is Isabella Wattie, and I’m part of Penfield High School’s Key Club. This year, I went to LTC for the first time and I had a blast! I attended informative workshops on how to improve my club, got to listen to motivational speakers, and of course made lots of great new friends. I thought LTC was really cool because it brought together kids from all over the state and gave me a lot of new ideas for service projects and ways to better my school’s club. Everyone there was so kind and funny and I was so thankful for the opportunity to meet some incredible new people! I would highly recommend going to LTC if you can next year! -Isabella Wattie, Penfield

Governor's Project At our April board meeting, Governor Camille announced her Governor's project. This year's governor's project is the New York Chapter of the Special Olympics. Special Olympics New York is an all inclusive athletic opportunity. Athletes with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to challenge themselves in fair and even competition. Special Olympics pushes the message of inclusion, which is something that everyone can get behind.

Service Spotlights The Harley School Key Club - Division 23 During the month of April, the Harley Key Club organized a blood drive through the Red Cross, gardened in the Harley School’s micro-farm, and volunteered at Happy Birthday Cha Cha Cha. The blood drive was a great success! Members were able to recruit 24 donors, 12 of which were donating for the first time. These donations were able to impact up to 72 different lives. The Harley School has a micro-farm outside and the members of the club were able to go outside at the end of the day for an hour to help lay mulch, lay woodchips, and lay stones to begin the creation of a terrace garden. The final project the club did this April was a volunteer at Happy Birthday Cha Cha Cha. This is an organization founded by Carrie Green. Green is a member of the Rochester community when a few years ago she noticed the need for birthday gifts for children attending Rochester city schools. A few members of the club went to Green’s house, where the organization is set up, to wrap presents, assemble gift bags, and organize boxes with presents. The members enjoyed themselves while serving their community. -Charlotte Allen, President of the Harley Key Club

Service Spotlights ‌ cont. Brighton Key Club - Division 23 Brighton Kiwanis is having a Spaghetti Dinner on May 21, so Brighton Key Club spent time tying and wrapping silverware in napkins for the fundraiser.

Penfield Key Club - Division 23 Recently, Penfield Key Club held a book drive. This week, they sorted and organized the books that were collected.

West Seneca East Senior Key Club - Division 25 This past month, the West Seneca East sr. Key Club made easter cards for the Orchard Park nursing home. They made about 25 cards. Each card had a different message wishing the people at the nursing home a happy easter. The students in the club all had a really great time making the cards and deciding where they would go. Not every member was able to deliver the cards to people so they decided that the new club President, Sabrina Blank, and the LTG, Avery Blank, would take them and hand them out. Giving the cards to people at the nursing home was an amazing experience. Each person that got one had a huge smile on their face. 25 cards was more than enough because there was extra to give the staff. On the way out everyone who got a card gave us a big goodbye and acted like we were celebrities. It was an amazing feeling to be able to make someone's day. -Sabrina Blank, West Seneca East Sr. Division 25
