Donate toward a Welcome Basket for our new Student Pastor and family Donate by Monday, June 15
We are delighted that Charles, Stephanie and Finn are joining our 2BC Family. As we prepare for Charles’s first Sunday with us (June 21), we are preparing a Welcome Basket filled with items that reflect 2BC and Liberty. Anyone is welcome to make a monetary donation to go towards items that will be purchased for the basket. Please clearly mark your donations, and either leave them at the Welcome Center desk or place them in the dropbox inside the west door. Sabra and Bryan Boyd will be coordinating this effort, so please feel free to contact Sabra for more details at bryan@jpricearchitecture.com or 816-225-5271. We will present the basket on Charles’s first Sunday, June 21.

Kristin Wooldridge Selected for CBF Festival of Young Preachers
"I am so honored to have been selected by Central to represent the seminary in the Academy of Preachers during the CBF General Assembly June 17-20. It is amazing to have the encouragement from my professors at Central to help me develop my skills and calling. I am also honored to represent Second Baptist Church. You may not realize it, but I am truly thankful for each member of our faith community and what I have learned from each of you. I hope and pray to deliver a message that would make you proud I am one of your own.
I will be preaching on Friday, June 19 at 2:45 p.m., during a breakout session. I would love to feel the prayers from my faith community while I am preaching. The theme for the Preaching Festival is 'Heaven and Earth.' I am preaching on Romans 8:22-25. My sermon is titled 'Embracing Hope.' I have spent a great deal of seminary studying hope and I look forward to sharing." - Kristin Wooldridge CBTS MDiv. Create Scholar, Anticipated Graduation, May 2016
How Far Would You Run or Walk for Clean Water? Sign up by July 1
2BC is one of five churches in the Kansas City metro to help launch the inaugural Team World Vision (TWV) for the Kansas City Marathon run, which this year will be October 17. TWV raises funds to provide clean water in Africa as runners/ walkers who join the team “run for a cause."
Not a runner? That's OK! If this is the first time
you have considered running, there is a training schedule that will take you from the couch to either the half or full marathon. You will also receive a fundraising webpage from TWV for friends and others who want to donate. Beginning in July, a Northland group will have Saturday distance runs for anyone who wants to have the added boost of community as you train. You do not have to be a runner to join the team! 80% of those who join are not runners but rather people who have a passion to see clean water available in every community possible in Africa. There will also be people who decide to walk the halfmarathon!
Why is this important to 2BC? 2BC has partnered with a former church member since the early 2000s to bring water wells to 20 communities in Nigeria. Turmoil in that country has made continuing that effort impossible, but the 2BC passion for clean water in our world has not changed. Team World Vision has provided this opportunity, and their website, teamworldvision. org, explains how their water projects are sustainable, comprehensive and creative.
Interested in joining the 2BC team? 1. Join at teamworldvision.org/team/secondbaptist 2. Follow the links to also submit your official race registration, using the discount code: TWVKCM

Meet Tony McBroom, Summer Intern
Tony McBroom has been helping with our Student Ministry the last two years and has been a valuable part of the interim team during our Student Pastor search. Tony’s primary responsibilities will be with Middle School students and other key events. His involvement will help the transition for Charles Smith starting his work. He will be a senior at William Jewell College and is an intern through the CBF's Student.CHURCH project, which provides a meaningful opportunity both for young adults interested in exploring a call to ministry and for congregations interested in calling out future ministry leaders.
