OUR SCHOOLS EDUCATING OUR YOUTH

A

rlington Heights School District 25 serves its community proudly. Everything done here in District 25 is done from a personal place, within, and we are happy to share it with our parents, the community and the world. The relationship our teachers have with their students, our staff has with the community, our students have to their work, is all personal, and we embody that feeling every day. The district believes in students’ ability to personalize their learning, all while exploring mathematics, literacy, science, social studies, world languages, the fine arts and technology. District 25 believes in a mindful and purposeful learner, and that shows up in the way technology is integrated into our learning. Our middle school curriculum includes instruction in STEM (science, technology, engineering & math), Digital Arts & Design and Communication Media Arts classes as well as with drama, music and art classes. Our world is ever changing and we want our students to be comfortable innovating and adapting. We see learning

through two lenses: the lens of today and the lens of what is to come in the future. District 25’s students, staff and administrators embody this ideal and pass it along throughout the Arlington Heights community. District 25 serves the central portion of Arlington Heights, with seven elementary (K-5) schools and two middle schools (grades 6-8). We open our doors to just over 5,550 students and just under 850 staff members, every day. Students and teachers are encouraged to be the student/ teacher they came here to be. Arlington Heights is in our roots. We recently polled our entire staff and found that 41% of our staff currently lives in Arlington Heights. Just over 10% of our staff attended District 25 schools. District 25’s strong tie to this community drives our passion and desire to want to give back. Venture around our newly redesigned website to learn more. Generate a connection with us through social media: Facebook (www.sd25.org/Facebook) and Twitter (www.Twitter.com/ahsd25 – @ ahsd25).

OUR PARK DISTRICT LIKE NONE OTHER

T

he Arlington Heights Park District, one of the oldest and largest in the region, has plenty of open spaces for the young and the young at heart to enjoy. Sure, we’re a little biased, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find a park district with as many amenities as this one. For one, the district has 58 parks comprised of community parks, neighborhood parks, play lots, passive parks and linear parks. There are five outdoor swimming pools, five community centers, a cultural arts center, a senior center, two tennis clubs, two golf clubs, a driving range, a skate park, a dog park, three football fields, seven soccer fields, seven sand volleyball courts, more than 40 ball diamonds, 30 basketball courts, 42 playgrounds, 52 outdoor tennis courts, 16 outdoor iceskating rinks and 17 picnic areas. And, you can even rent a garden plot if you want one. The Olympic Indoor Swim Center is undergoing major renovations, which are expected to be completed in 2020 (in time to celebrate the building’s 50th anniversary). Renovations will include a new 53,000-square-foot addition to the existing building on Ridge Avenue. The park district’s crown jewel is the 50-acre detention lake, Lake Arlington, which has a two-mile walk/ run path around its perimeter and many new additions. Recent updates have included a fishing pier, a fountain, a multigenerational area with a picnic area/ shelter and game tables, a playground and an outdoor exercise area. Boat rentals are available seasonally. Just want to know where to ride your

bike or take a stroll? The village’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission can help. It hosts community bike rides to point out the various paths.
