enerosity is more than a way to describe Hancock County; it’s our community’s driving force. For almost 30 years, The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation has been a cornerstone for charitable giving. Through challenging times and times of success, our community’s passion for its people remains strong.

The Community Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life in Hancock County by partnering with donors who are passionate about our community. Since 1992, their philanthropic investments have enabled The Community Foundation to grant more than $50 million for the benefit of residents in Hancock County. Part of the Foundation’s grantmaking includes a new way to re-engage rural community members. The Community Heart & Soul process, a two-year planning and development project, has been implemented in McComb and Mt. Blanchard. The input from residents in building a plan for each village positions them well for future success. We will see the effects of this program in both villages for many years to come. Additionally, the Foundation is one of several partners supporting the local coalition process. The coalitions bring together those working on any of the following areas: food security, health, housing, literacy, mental health & substance use, safety & abuse, transportation and workforce development.

The Hancock County Veterans Service Office staff is available to help veterans and their families understand what federal and state benefits they qualify for and complete all necessary paperwork to apply for those benefits. The experienced staff is also equipped to connect veterans to local resources. Some of the federal and state benefits include disability compensation, VA health care benefits, the Ohio Veterans Home, mental health services, state veterans ID card and survivor benefits. In addition to completing forms for state and federal veterans benefits, the office also offers Battle Buddies (a peer-to-peer support program), GI Tunes (a music listening program), Guitars for Vets (free guitar lessons), Veterans Discovering New Life (a faith-based program to offer support to veterans) and transportation to VA medical appointments. Transportation also is available in the county through HATS at no cost to veterans with a valid federal or state veteran ID card.

These coalitions seek collaborative solutions to complex social problems affecting our community. Not only is The Community Foundation a funder of the coalitions, but Foundation staff also serve as members of several of the groups. The Community Foundation is dedicated to improving lives in Hancock County. n

Whether you are enjoying a show in the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts or Fort Findlay Playhouse, or seeing a production featuring University of Findlay students, community or YouTheatre actors, you’ll appreciate the talent right here in Findlay and Hancock County. Art lovers of all ages and tastes will enjoy the art shows hosted by the Findlay Art League, browsing the open galleries in the Jones Mansion or taking a class at one of the many downtown art studios. Plus, there are many events that are designed with the art and music lover in mind. The University of Findlay has announced the planned Joseph and Judith Conda STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics/medicine) Education Center addition to the Mazza Museum. The 4,000-square-foot addition will include a resource center and gallery. The Mazza Museum is a Findlay gem serving as host to a diverse collection of original artwork by children’s book illustrators in the world. There are also opportunities to celebrate history and culture in Hancock County. Visit the Hancock Historical Museum to learn about the history of the oil boom of the 1800s, Findlay Glass and more about the area. AGRICULTURE

heat, corn and soybeans are some of the most common fields planted in Hancock County. The average sized farm in Hancock County is over 200 acres. Agriculture is very much alive and well in Hancock County and is an important part of communities throughout the county. Agriculture is so important in our county that our Chamber of Commerce started the Agri-Business Committee, which is dedicated to promoting and supporting agriculture in Hancock County. Annually, a Farmerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Share Breakfast recognizes and honors outstanding contributions to agriculture by people in Hancock County, either as a farmer or agriculture-related field. Each year they induct new members into the Agriculture Hall of Fame.

One of the many resources available in our community is through the Hancock County OSU Extension office. Their agriculture and natural resource programs assist with technology, marketing, education and support for our county farmers. They help our agricultural community balance economic advancement with environmental sustainability. The extension office also assists farmers with soil and water quality testing. Our community is a proud supporter of agriculture and continues to champion the efforts of farmers and conservationist right here in our own backyard. n

Late summer, the Hancock County Fair features hundreds of young people ages 8-18, with livestock entries making up about 75% of the fair entries. By being a part of the Hancock County 4-H and FFA programs, youth learn the fundamentals and foundations of agriculture, not just raising livestock. These young people are the bright future of agriculture right here in Hancock County. Year-round, the fairgroundâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s leadership team continues to make improvements to the fairgrounds, including the Legacy Building, The Old Mill Stream Centre and Recker Arena.
