MAYOR’S WELCOME What a great place to live and work – I knew that before I became Mayor of Fountain Inn in December. After moving into city hall, I realized how true that really is! Our city if filled with dedicated employees, department leaders, city council and citizens who work together on everything. The importance of Fountain Inn in the big picture or our region is quite impressive, but not overwhelming. We have seen revitalization of our downtown through main street improvements, increased traffic and visitors. The energy and “warm and fuzzy” feeling is apparent to anyone moving through our city. Our special events and festivals are becoming the place to be for family-friendly entertainment and social gatherings. Not only do our residents benefit,

but we are also seeing more and more visitors coming to see what everyone is talking about. As we construct our new 2016 Master Plan, we are amazed by the inclusions of our residents with creativity and true passion for Fountain Inn – they do have a voice. We are excited about the emergence of diversity and variety as we learn more and more about what we can and will do as a community to make sure our future, and our children’s future are secure. So here we are with all of the tools to take the next steps in growth for our city and surrounding businesses. We are poised to strengthen our position in our county and state. The growth of residential home sites and new schools prove that people do see what we have, and want to be a part of the future. Fountain Inn is truly the “INN” place to be! CHAMBER WELCOME

FOUNTAIN INN, SOUTH CAROLINA Welcome to the “Front Porch of the Upstate”

The phrase “Front Porch of the Upstate” brings back memories for me and so many others from decades gone by. Nestled in the Upstate of South Carolina, a region of all seasons, Fountain Inn is filled with abundant natural beauty and charming history. Our city’s hospitality and warm, friendly people are second only to the fun, exciting adventures you’ll find here! In the beautiful Southern city of Fountain Inn, you will experience those times when life moves a little bit slower, and families gather on their porches just to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Fountain Inn Chamber was officially incorporated July 3, 1954. Our founding fathers the late Max Karelitz, James A. Cannon, Blake P. Garrett and Andy McGeachie, who have all passed away, live on through their spirit and 8

convictions for this Chamber. Many of these gentlemen’s descendants still live in and around Fountain Inn. Our Chamber is a family, and the family continues to reach out and grow! Throughout the year, we enjoy many events, large and small, that provide meaningful networking opportunities for our members. Some of the Chamber offerings are Business After Hours, Lunch & Learn sessions and ribbon cuttings and grand openings for new businesses. Let me offer my personal invitation to everyone, come, visit and enjoy all that Fountain Inn has to offer. Perhaps you may decide to make your new home here. A place where life is enjoyed, friendships are created and memories are made here on the “Front Porch of The Upstate” – Fountain Inn, South Carolina. John R. SIGNATURE EVENTS

Our signature events give many additional opportunities for networking and sponsorships to all members. The Chamber’s annual golf tournament is held in August; the annual Aunt Het Fall Festival, always held the first Saturday of October, is a favorite with everyone. It brings thousands of visitors to our wonderful downtown area with crafters, food vendors, music, a classic car show, two-day quilt show and much more. The Spirit of Christmas Past Christmas Parade is a favorite in the Golden Strip area, and it kicks off Fountain Inn’s two-week Christmas event with carriage rides, food, carolers and shopping in unique downtown stores. February is exciting as the Chamber holds its annual banquet where awards and recognitions are given and much appreciated. Our 2017 guest speaker will be Marcus Lattimore, former USC Gamecock player and former NFL player. Our Annual Horse Show, sanctioned by CHSA, is a favorite spring event with all our equestrian lovers. The month of May brings up our annual “Palmetto State” Chili Cook-Off, sanctioned through ICS (International Chili

Society). Some of the finest chili cookers come from different states to participate. Here we donate back to charity 90 percent of the net proceeds. Our Chamber loves helping those in need. Here, we help “give back” throughout the year in various ways. Our classic car show at the Aunt Het Festival collects non-perishable food for God’s Pantry. From late October until Christmas, the Chamber is an official drop-off point for One Warm Coat drive, a national organization which collects new and ‘slightly’ worn clothing for men, women and children. All the clothing remains in our community, going to our local James Monroe Mission House. Volunteers at the James Monroe Mission House serve and distribute food and clothing weekly at no cost to over 350 families in the Upstate’s Golden Strip area. July features our Cruise-In for School Supplies where the Chamber partners with Bojangles, Unique Car Club of Greenville and others. The school supplies are given to Generations Group Home for Boys. HISTORY Fountain Inn Museum keeps the past alive From fountains to farms, textile mills to 21st century technology, the Fountain Inn Museum delights visitors of all ages as we stand on the foundation of a glorious past and set the building blocks Randall Frye to an even brighter Museum Director future. The museum opened in 2010 as part of the Commerce Park project in downtown Fountain Inn. Visitors can explore exhibits chronicling early years when Native Americans called this area home to modern-day sports heroes. Special programs and revolving exhibits make for an exciting visit even for repeat guests. Here, you’ll experience the stories of writer

Robert Quillen, a 2014 inductee in South Carolina’s literary hall of fame, to “Peg Leg” Bates, the Fountain Inn native who became an internationally renowned dancer. Whether you are the descendant of one of the area’s first settlers or a new arrival, the Fountain Inn Museum has something for you. Visitors delight in a walk through the city’s past as they survey the time of the arrival of the first Europeans to the days when cotton was king, from the ravages of war to the birth of the textile industry. Poignant moments in local and international history, and the role area residents played in them, are spotlighted. Make the Fountain Inn Museum a part of your visit to downtown. Become a supporter of this nonprofit organization and share in the preservation of Fountain Inn’s unique story. For more information, visit www.Fountain InnMuseum.org.

OVERVIEW OF FOUNTAIN INN Welcome to Fountain Inn, South Carolina! This overview will assist you in recognizing why Fountain Inn has become known as “The Diamond Tip” of the Golden Strip. Fountain Inn is nestled in the Upstate of South Carolina, a borough where life is enjoyed and memories are in the making. Our city’s history echoes strong ties to family and industry with bountiful natural beauty, and a fascinating history. There are many fun & exciting adventures awaiting you in our fair city. “As early as 1814, maps show a stagecoach route through the area that would become Fountain Inn,” said Randall Frye, director of the Fountain Inn Museum. “By 1856, the city is noted by name on state maps. Thirty years later brought the railroad and the incorporation of the town. The last years of the 19th century saw the coming of the textile industry, and the rest is history.” Fountain Inn was commissioned on Christmas Eve 1886. The population (approx. 8,000) of Fountain Inn continues to grow steadily, with population expected to see continuous growth through 2020. Average household income stands roughly around $55,576, with a forecast of reaching $62,023. Local industry playing a major part in our economic growth includes Greenville Hospital System/Hillcrest Memorial, Bosch Rexroth, Michelin, ZF transmissions, WW Grainger, Yanfeng Global Automotive Interiors, BI-LO groceries, CVS health, QuickTrip (QT) gas and convenience stores, and especially Younts Center for the Performing Arts, which is now located in the long-standing Fountain Inn High School building on Main Street. Fountain Inn also boasts the arrival of a significant number of new restaurants, dine-in and fast food options, to our area, with several more on the way. For the once, almost vacant, downtown setting we now enjoy a 98 percent occupancy. Our unique shops are distinctive and enticing. Fountain Inn is also home to several signature events. The annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament, is a favorite time of fun for local golfers and our many sponsors. 12

Our annual Aunt Het festival is held the first Saturday in October, creating a superlative family environment downtown bringing numerous visitors to our town. In concurrence with Aunt Het, the Lauren’s Hope Foundation 5K brings runners through downtown before the festival opens. Food vendors, crafters, music, carnival rides and the classic car show fill up downtown for a whole day. The Spirit of Christmas Past Christmas Parade is the beginning of the Christmas season with horse-drawn carriage rides, food, carolers and shopping in our distinctive city. In May, our Annual Horse Show, sanctioned by CHSA, is enjoyed by horse lovers from around the area. Our Chamber of Commerce contributes during the year. We have our yearly One Warm Coat drive from late October until Christmas. This is a national organization that collects new or gently used coats for children, men and women in need of them. The classic car show at Aunt Het collects canned and nonperishable foods for God’s Pantry. July presents Generations Group Home for Boys and our Cruise-In for School Supplies, sponsored by Bojangles’, Unique Car Club of Greenville and others. You are invited to come visit, enjoy, and perhaps make your new home here. A place where life is enjoyed, friendships are created, and memories are made here on the Front Porch of the Upstate. BUSINESS

In 2006, the city set some synergistic goals in motion for the downtown region, an area that was once sluggish and hovered near 50 percent capacity a decade ago; but not more. Time and careful planning and execution have resulted in Fountain Inn boasting an 85 percent occupancy rate downtown thanks in part to a $3 million facelift on Main Street and commitments from loyal corporate partners. Here’s what you can expect to find here: CHANGE AT THE GROUND LEVEL Many exciting changes are taking place at ground level in Fountain Inn. QuikTrip, a gas station-convenience store location at Harrison Bridge Road, is considered the second-top restaurant for the area in terms of prepared food sales. One of the centerpieces of the downtown revitalization effort has been the conversion of the old Fountain Inn High School building to the Younts Center for Performing Arts on Main Street. The Younts Center provides 50 dates of entertainment per year. It’s where people come to enjoy Broadway-style plays, top-ticket music acts, local artists and more. It is also home to the Fountain Inn Symphony Orchestra, the Fountain Inn Chorale, FIREside Radio and FIRE Theatre Co. What better way to cap off a night on the town? Dining out, of course.

BUSINESS FOOD/ENTERTAINMENT Popular restaurants dot downtown streets and transform informal visitors into destination seekers as they try to figure out their favorites. There are nine sit-down eateries in downtown Fountain Inn and 12 fast-food restaurants in the city limits. The latter represents more than $1 million in sales a year. Among the top downtown dining stops: J Peters Bar and Grill. This downtown grill gets high marks from guests and is praised for its convenient downtown location. Sweet Catherine’s is the place you want to be if you’re looking for a quick lunch (only) in a quaint and cute environment. Cucina 100 allows patrons to taste and sample of the best Italian fare this side of Europe. Growler Haus holds the distinction of being the city’s first craft beer store. BUSINESS Fountain Inn’s ongoing success has not gone unnoticed by major manufacturers:

Tower International, a Tier 1 auto tire supplier and leading integrated global manufacturer of engineered structural metal components and assemblies, announced that it would invest $44 million in its Fountain Inn facility, which is expected to create 100 or more new jobs. Yanfeng Automotive Interiors, the world’s largest supplier of automotive interior components, recently established a production base at the Fountain Inn-based plant that it acquired from Faurecia SA. The acquisition included the 365,000square-foot facility and its employees. Yet, the company will also expand the site by an additional 100,000 square feet at a cost of more than $70 million. The project is expected to create 35 new jobs. Since 1989, Bosch Rexroth has operated its hydraulics production facility in Fountain Inn, and it recently committed to investing $5 million over the next few years to expand its hydraulics manufacturing operation at the Southchase Industrial Park in Fountain Inn.

BUSINESS

In 2013, Rexroth invested $80 million over five years to expand production and convert an existing 260,000-square foot industrial warehouse into a modern manufacturing and assembly plant. The facility now encompasses more than 100 acres of land and has more than 700 employees. Social media searches show that the area is brimming with job possibilities. Other major companies that have committed to this area include Michelin, ZF Friedrickshafen, Catepillar, W.W. Grainger and Bi-Lo, to name a few. TRANSPORTATION How are people getting around from appointments to special meals to places of employment? Mostly by car. Yet, talks are underway to connect Fountain Inn to the nearby

Greenlink Transit bus service. Certainly families and business travelers will be happy to know that Fountain Inn is just 24 short minutes from the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport. GROWING BIGGER, BETTER AND TOGETHER Fountain Inn represents sound investments where everyone wins. There are: major business opportunities to start, grow and become a part of; a busy downtown scene that is rich in dining, art and culture, and a steadily growing metropolis, with easy access to international travel. In Fountain Inn, we offers big-city dreams with a small-town appeal.

DOWNTOWN

Downtown Fountain Inn has plenty to offer Fall in love with all there is to explore in downtown Fountain Inn. Whether it’s a stroll or festival in Commerce Park, a great dinner out, busy board meetings or a seasonal celebration, there is plenty to see and experience. A city master plan devised some 10 years ago in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Transportation had a Streetscape Beautification Project as its No. 1 goal. The idea was to increase foot traffic and commercial opportunities in Fountain Inn’s business district and draw young professionals and families back to Main Street. By winter 2015, that dream was realized. Home to legendary vaudeville tap dancer Clayton “Peg Leg” Bates, Fountain Inn’s downtown area is now a thriving, bustling (and continually growing) metropolis. Main Street and other downtown thoroughfares have been transformed by the addition of wider sidewalks, landscaping, intersection poles, updates to sewer lines, storm drains and irrigation systems as well as diagonal parking and curb bump-outs. Throughout the beautification process, occupancy in downtown buildings doubled. Restaurants and small businesses took notice and moved in, and the city won a Municipal Achievement Award – despite being one of the smallest municipalities in the award’s 5,00120,000 population category.

And the good news continues, as downtown seasonal festivities remain popular and fill up fast. There’s the Palmetto State Chili Cookoff in May; the Fountain Inn Natural Gas Bandstand free concert series for a dozen Fridays each summer; the bountiful GHS Farmers Market on Thursdays June through September; the Fountain Inn Depot PickInn Bluegrass summer concert series on Saturdays June through August; the Fountain Inn Chamber Annual Golf Tournament in August; the Annual Aunt Het Fall Festival, which includes crafts, music, food and a car show, in October; and the annual Christmas Celebration that includes a parade, tree-lighting ceremony and horse-drawn carriage rides throughout the holiday season. Plus, the centerpiece of activity remains at the Younts Center for Performing Arts throughout the year. It is in this 418-seat auditorium on Main Street that regular patrons, tourists and nearby visitors come to see Broadway-themed productions, musical acts by guest artists as well as performances by the resident Fountain Inn Symphony Orchestra, Fountain Inn Chorale, FIREside Radio and FIRE Theatre Co. Community recitals, pageants and weddings are also held here in this beautiful space. Find charm, beauty, quality entertaining and a business-ready atmosphere in Fountain Inn’s prized downtown area. We will meet you there! Directory & Newcomers Guide

RECREATION Fountain Inn Activities Center is all about our community. Youth sports remain an important part of the city’s recreation offerings: Baseball, softball, football, basketball and volleyball offered each season. The popularity of youth sports has resulted in expanded programs, as well as adult leagues, softball and basketball. The activities center provides a multipurpose facility for people of all ages, with a full-court gymnasium, fitness center and meeting space. Senior activities are free of charge to those aged 55 and over, and include exercise classes, walking, health screenings and educational workshops, crafts and special interest groups. Through a $500,000 expansion and upgrade project, a new community room has recently been completed, with seating up to 80 guests. The parks and recreation department also sponsors several community events throughout the year: The annual soapbox derby in spring, the Rudolph Run 5K/Kids 1K Fun Run in December, as well as hosting a city and community-wide Veterans Day ceremony.

The parks and recreation department facility, with nearly 50 acres of public parks, exceed the national average for towns of this size. PD Terry City Park and Woodside Park provide ballfields, picnic areas and playgrounds, along with tennis courts, picnic shelters and children’s play areas. As Fountain Inn continues to grow, the parks and recreation department is looking forward to meeting the needs and goals of the community through expanding and upgrading its facilities in years to come.

CULTURAL ARTS Fountain Inn has become known as an up-and-coming arts minded community. Since 2008, the city’s Younts Center for Performing Arts has been the home of a resident theater company, chorale, symphony orchestra and a diverse roster of visiting artists. The new faces that the arts have brought to the community have spurred a revitalization of Fountain Inn’s downtown and brought the city to prominence as a major cultural and artistic player in the Golden Strip landscape. There are more than 40 dates on the calendar – all of which bring something unique and special. The resident companies have 33 performances on the calendar, and reat feature shows, including legends have been added: Larry Gatlin, Rick Alviti (Elvis Tribute) - with 8 straight years of sellouts, big band music from Benny Goodman, The Four Freshmen, and tributes to Stevie Wonder and The Eagles. The Younts Center’s four main stage theater and four FIREside Radio productions will open the season in October with “Little Shop of Horrors,” followed by “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Julius Caesar” and “Godspell.” With a performing arts center, a history museum and an active schedule of community

events and festivals, Fountain Inn has pulled itself up and brought in new people and new ideas. A rich cultural and artistic community makes for a happier citizenry and those are just some of the things that make Fountain Inn a great place to live.

HEALTH CARE GREENVILLE HEALTH SYSTEM For more than 50 years, Greenville Health System (GHS) has served as the Golden Strip’s premier health care resource with its Simpsonville Medical Campus. Health care professionals are leading the way in transforming patient care through integrated programs and interconnected teams, and by offering community residents the right care in the right place at the right time. Located on the Simpsonville Medical Campus, Hillcrest Memorial Hospital (HMH) specializes in short stay and outpatient surgical procedures and has the proud distinction of being certified as the Upstate’s first Center of Excellence in bariatric surgery. Each year, its approximately 270 staff members perform more than 2,445 surgeries, treat 31,345 patients in the ED, and care for 72,000 patients that come through its doors. HMH provides 24-hour emergency services and is staffed by the same board-certified physicians who rotate throughout all GHS Emergency Departments, ensuring access to the highest quality of care. HMH also provides a variety of imaging and laboratory services, keeping access to care close to home. Adjacent to the hospital is a medical office building that offers convenient access to primary and specialty care, and houses internists, pediatricians, orthopaedists, OB/GYNs, general and colorectal surgeons, and other physician groups. Simpsonville Medical Campus offers patients and their loved ones the full circle of care. Its wellness, outreach and education efforts are aimed at keeping you healthy and out of the hospital, but it’s comforting to know that if you require medical services, it provides 360 degree care, 365 days a year. PELHAM MEDICAL CENTER Since its opening in 2008, Pelham Medical Center has been a multifaceted facility for expert medical care. Pelham Medical Center offers emergency care services with low wait times, primary physician care, full diagnostic capabilities, medical and surgical specialties, surgery and a world-class cancer center. 22

As a part of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, Pelham Medical Center consists of 48 inpatient rooms and is continuously expanding services to meet the needs of patients. Conveniently located at Westmoreland Road and Highway 14 in Greer, the stateof-the-art facility is a national award winner for its design. The hospital design focuses on both comfort and convenience for patients and visitors. This focus carries over into each patient room with several room features designed to maximize functional efficiency and effectiveness for the patient care team without disturbing the patient. The campus also includes Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Center at Pelham. The cancer center delivers comprehensive, personalized cancer care to patients. Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute at Pelham was the first in the Carolinas to treat patients with the CyberKnife M6 Radiosurgery System. Now, Gibbs is the first in the United States to treat cancer patients using the CyberKnife M6 with the next-generation InCise Multileaf Collimator. Gibbs at Pelham is expanding with the construction of a new 198,000-square-foot facility, which is scheduled for completion in mid-2018.
