September 10, 2017 DuPage County Residents: Imagine… what would happen if an entire County decided to do good? On behalf of the DuPage County Board, I challenge our community to find out, as we and Giving DuPage launch the County’s biggest service campaign in County history – Do GOOD DuPage. The initiative promotes community service throughout the County, aiming to involve 150,000 people. Leaders challenge everyone to sign up, do good deeds, share the experience and get others involved. I’m inviting everyone to get involved with Do GOOD DuPage — for families to create great memories by volunteering together and for schools to make service their motto. We want faith and community leaders to inspire their members to put donation at the top of their weekly list of things to do, whether it be donating their time, talent or treasure. I’d like to see business and civic leaders join me in friendly competition to outdo each other in doing good for our communities. Thanks for taking up the challenge to Do GOOD DuPage! Sincerely,
College of DuPage Secretary

Dear DuPage Volunteers & Donors: As we finalize this publication, the nation is gripped with the story of one of the largest natural disasters in our history, Hurricane Harvey. We’ve seen the devastating images and our hearts and prayers are with all those affected. At the same time, we are witnessing the very definition of resiliency. The generosity of Americans shines through as people everywhere ask “How can we help?” and as donations pour in to disaster agencies. Impacted communities help one another and the word “volunteer” carries the mark of nobility as we hear and see the life-saving rescue stories. No doubt, we will continue to help Harvey victims, but this disaster demonstrates the power of communities coming together to respond in a crisis. In our DuPage community, there are many living in their own disaster moment. There is a grandparent choosing between buying food or buying medicine. There is a mother desperate to take her children to safety from an abusive situation. There is a family struggling to break the cycle of poverty. There is a veteran experiencing loneliness and needing assistance. There is a teenager battling substance abuse. For each of these stories, and countless more, we are fortunate to have a local agency ready to help. The less-than-great news is these agencies are struggling now, more than ever, to provide their services. They need our help and we can answer that call with our time, talents and treasure. Let us model our DuPage community after the powerful examples of Harvey volunteers and let’s take up the Do GOOD DuPage challenge. We can answer the call to service and show what it looks like when 150,000 people come together to help those in need. Join the movement to #DoGOODDuPage and sign up at givingdupage.org/doGOOD. To answer the question, “How can I help?”, Giving DuPage proudly presents the 15th Annual Giving Guide, the DuPage County Volunteering Resource Guide. The guide lists local nonprofit organizations, showing residents exactly how they can help with 300+ giving opportunities. Residents can find more volunteer & in-kind donation needs, as well as nonprofit jobs & events at our Volunteer Portal - givingdupage.org/volunteer. We are deeply indebted to the Daily Herald team who partner with us to produce this tremendous resource every year. We are truly grateful to the advertisers whose support allows us to offer the Giving Guide as a free publication. We are blessed to work with DuPage nonprofit organizations whose programs support those experiencing a crisis moment or improve the quality of life for others. Finally, we honor all local volunteers and donors whose selflessness carries the mark of nobility in our DuPage community. Thank you for your generosity! Sincerely,
Shefali M. Trivedi Giving DuPage, Executive Director

The Foundation for CHANGE is a non- profit organization working in partnership with the Department of Probation and Court Services in DuPage County, Illinois. The Foundation for Change funds opportunities for probationers to participate in activities which support behavior change. Adult and juvenile probationers often need structure in their lives as well as the opportunity to participate in activities with people who are law-abiding community members. Pro-social activities not only provide structure where needed but also provide opportunities to build relationships with positive role models where they can practice skills necessary to interact with people in a positive way and gain a sense of accomplishment and belonging. Research in the field of community corrections has proven that positive reinforcement and pro-social community ties effectively reduce reoffending because they change anti-social thinking and behavior.
