alatine residents take pride in the many excellent education options available to families. With the help of the administrators and staff, Palatine is a wonderful place for students to learn, play and have fun. As the third-largest elementary school district in Illinois, Community Consolidated School District 15 offers numerous contingencies and programs for students. Young Entrepreneurs Academy is Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce’s program and District 15 is a partner. This program encourages middle schoolers to plan and start their own businesses. Students brainstorm concepts, write business plans and present their ideas to investors who will help fund their businesses. The district also has a

partnership with Illinois State University, giving college students teaching internships. Township High School District 211 is the biggest high school district in the State of Illinois. District 211 encompasses 12,000 students in five high schools. Fremd and Palatine high schools have been nationally recognized for excellence by the U.S. Department of Education as part of its Blue Ribbon Secondary School Awards Program. This award recognizes high schools that show excellence in academics, athletic activity and schoolwide programs. According to U.S. News and World Report, Fremd and Palatine high schools were ranked in the nation’s top 99 high schools. Harper College’s student population

PARK DISTRICTS LIKE NONE OTHER PALATINE PARK DISTRICT Palatine Park District has been serving the community for over 70 years, promoting healthy living through programs, classes and events. Residents of all ages have numerous options for fitness, wellness and fun activities, such as youth football, an indoor triathlon, children’s activities, lacrosse, dance, aquatics and camps. Stables and hear a variety of music at Fred P. Hall Amphitheater or hit the links at Palatine Hills Golf Course, a 6,800 yard, par 72 championship course that challenges golfers of all skill levels. Programs and events are designed to meet the needs and interests of all residents. Parents interested in sending their kids to camp have several options. The park district also provides gymnastics, fitness classes, cultural arts activities and parent and tot classes, which include sports and yoga. SALT CREEK RURAL PARK DISTRICT Salt Creek Rural Park District offers many activities, programs and events. Programs for all ages include adult fitness and trips, early childhood activities and preschool, tennis, dance, camps and family trips. Residents can enjoy a 9-hole golf course, lessons, driving range and boating at Twin Lakes. During the summer, the pavilions are open with multiple grills for families to have a cookout. Hockey fans can get their game on at Salt Creek Sports Center, the largest adult inline and floor hockey league in the state. The Sports Center is open year-round, seven days a week. Salt Creek Rural Park District is also a fun place for residents to play, go to events and take part in multiple programs. If you are new to the neighborhood and

NEW RESIDENT CHECKLIST

he Village of Palatine puts the community first. If you are new in town, this checklist will help you find the places and resources you need. For more information, visit Village of Palatine at www.patlatine.il.us. Village Hall Palatine Village Hall at 200 E. Wood St. is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Emergency Public Works can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (847) 705-5200. To get the latest updates on village news and see what is going on in the community, visit www.Palatine.il.us. Downtown Commuter & Public Parking Metra’s Union Pacific Northwest line’s station at 137 W. Wood St. is in the heart

of downtown. For the daily commuter, the village offers parking spots with meters near the southwest corner of the station. The meters take debit/credit card and cash payments. Parking fee is $2 a day; $2.20 with a credit card. A pay-by-phone feature allows residents to create an account through the Passport Parking app. There is an additional 80-cent fee for using the app. For more information about commuter parking, call (847) 202-6671. Public parking options are highlighted on the village downtown parking map, which has a list of lots and space available. There are multiple spots on the street in the downtown area for the public to use. In the downtown area on Palatine Road, Smith Street, Wood Street and Plum Grove Road, parking is only allowed for 15 minutes or more and is prohibited between 1:30 a.m.

Water comes from Lake Michigan from the City of Evanston. To establish your utility services, get in touch with the Finance Department by calling (847) 359-9085. To pay your bill, you can add your checking or savings account number and it will automatically be deducted from your account. Paying online or by mail is also an option. You will be charged bi-monthly for these services. The sewer service rates is based on how much water you use and where the water is being metered. Vehicle Stickers All Palatine residents who own vehicles are required to purchase a sticker every year. If you are a new resident, you have 30 days to buy a sticker. Each year, stickers are sent out to the community in the late spring

and must be affixed by July 1. To buy your sticker, go online at www.green-pay.us, mail or drop it off in person at the village hall during regular hour. Stickers are $30 and $6 for seniors. Overnight Parking Regulations Overnight parking is not allowed on the village streets between 1 and 6 a.m. Residents may request overnight parking five nights each month by calling the Palatine Police Department at (847) 3599000 or by visiting www.palatine.il.us/292/ Overnight-Parking and filling out a request form. Winter parking is prohibited on village streets for 24 hours after a snowfall of two or more inches. Refuse, Yard Waste & Recycling Refuse and recycling are collected once a week by Groot. Containers must be placed at the end of the curb no later than 6:30 a.m. to be picked up on the scheduled date for your neighborhood. Holidays may affect the days refuse is picked up. Animal Licenses and Control All dogs and cats must be licensed by the village and wear tags. Only three pets are allowed per household. Unit is available to help residents and businesses with domestic and wildlife concerns. The officer is on duty during 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Issues such as dogs running loose, animal bites and injured wildlife should be directed to 911. Call (847) 359-9000 to speak directly to the Animal Control Unit. In addition, the unit offers a statewide spay/neuter program for low-income residents that also helps to decrease the amount of strays in the village and reduce animal bites. An application with income documentation is required and must be submitted to the Department of Public Health for confirmation.
