CHAMBER WELCOME On behalf of the Polish American Chamber of Commerce (PACC) and its board of directors, I am very proud to present this special 25th Anniversary Edition of our Business Directory and Resource Guide. As we celebrate our anniversary, we are especially mindful that some of the most important goals of the PACC as an organization include promoting our member businesses, raising our profile and disseminating information on the community’s business, trade, and economic development. I believe our new publication will be very helpful in that regard. 2018 has also marked the very important 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence. And I would like to take this opportunity to reflect that we are very proud of the members of Chicago’s Polish business community who actively supported the struggle for independent Poland a century ago. We also salute numerous Polish heroes who paid the ultimate price to preserve our culture, tradition, and sovereign Poland. Now that Poland’s stature grows on the world economic stage, we are very pleased that while Chicago-area businesses continue to dominate our membership list, more and more of our new members are companies from Poland. We have become a sought out and active participant in developing the growing bilateral trade relationship between

the US and Poland. At the same time, we are a conduit for accessing the Polish American market niche for mainstream companies. As an organization, we have a dynamic and diverse membership base. I would especially like to thank the businesses that advertised in this publication or are listed in the directory, and I encourage you to support them when you look for products or services. Much appreciation goes to Town Square Publications and all those who helped put this special anniversary publication of our Chamber together. Stanley Skoczen President

ABOUT THE CHAMBER

PURPOSE Established in 1994, the Polish American Chamber of Commerce (PACC) is a nonprofit organization incorporated in the State of Illinois as a business association. The Chamber is dedicated to fostering its members’ business interests, educating and facilitating commercial contacts, and building relations. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Polish American Chamber stands beside immigrant entrepreneurs and also beside businesses crossing the Atlantic – in both directions The Chicago-based Polish American Chamber of Commerce is the largest nonprofit organization in the United States dedicated to fostering the interests of PolishAmerican and Polish-owned businesses, business owners and professionals on a regional, national and international level. “When we started as a chamber in 1994, the goal was for businesses owned by PolishAmerican immigrants in the Chicago area to get together – to create opportunities for them to learn, to promote their businesses and to network,” said Bogdan Pukszta, executive director and co-founder of the PACC. But as the chamber celebrates its 25th year of operation, it increasingly is also helping American firms do business in Poland and helping companies from Poland do business in America. When the PACC began, Pukszta noted, Poland had just thrown off Communism and American companies both big and small were showing a lot of interest in investing in Poland. “Many companies and organizations sent representatives to explore locating in Poland and most of those people stayed at the pricey Marriott, the finest hotel in Warsaw. So they became known as the Marriott Brigades.” There was even a Chicago-based U.S.-Poland Chamber of Commerce (which is no longer operating) to help with this one-way business flow. But until the Polish American Chamber was started by 35 Chicago-based, mostly immigrant-owned businesses, there was no organization to help businesses owned by Polish Americans network with each other and promote themselves within the U.S. “Fifty percent of all Polish immigrants to the United States still come to Illinois,” said Pukszta, who moved to Chicago from Poland himself at age 24. “But as Poland develops economically in the post-Communist era, fewer new people are moving from there to the United States and more businesses in Poland are looking for opportunities to invest in the United States.” Because the commercial section of the Polish Consulate General in Chicago closed down in 2008, the PACC has become all the more critical as a source of information and advice, he said.

other American cities have Polish-American chambers of commerce, some members are from other parts of the United States. And a growing number of member companies are from Poland and are establishing their U.S. presence or investing in Chicago. In this new world, some recent PACC activities have included: Partnering with Navy Pier to produce “Celebrate Poland.” Hosting roundtables, seminars and presentations in support of members’ business interests and needs. Organizing Polish American Business Expo and participating in the Chicago Small Business Expo, and in DPS Construction Summits and Vendor Fairs. Negotiating and signing collaboration agreements with the Katowice Chamber of Commerce and the City of Opole. Meetings with delegations and trade missions from the Podkarpackie, Opolskie, Lubelskie and other regions of Poland. Meetings with and introductions to others in Chicago of delegations of Polish government officials seeking regulatory and start-up ecosystem expertise and advice, so Poland can apply the “best practices” of American entrepreneurism back home. Presenting Honorary PACC Membership to Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Serving as a partner agency for the organizers of the Krakow & Malopolska Trade Mission to Chicago, as LOT Polish Airlines began direct flights from Chicago to Krakow. Holding about 30 events every year in which Chicagoarea members can learn and network. These include special programs such as am annual boat outing, golf outing and holiday gathering.

AN ACTIVE PRESENCE

THE CHICAGO CONNECTION

Most PACC member companies still are from the Chicago area, where the largest number of immigrants from Poland have settled. But because only a handful of

Boasting the largest and most established Polish community in the world outside of Poland, Chicago and its suburbs offer a wealth of business and commercial

opportunity. Nearly 1,000,000 people of Polish ethnicity live in the metropolitan area. Polish is the third most commonly spoken language in Chicago, ranking behind only English and Spanish. The City of Chicago recently named the Polish American Chamber of Commerce as one of its local Neighborhood Business Development Centers. The PACC offices are located in the Copernicus Center Annex in the heart of one of Chicago’s largely Polish neighborhoods, Jefferson Park. “From helping to develop a business plan to accessing capital, troubleshooting city-related issues, employment and workforce development assistance, business-to-business networking opportunities, and connecting with other businesses and customers, the PACC is a one-stop shop,” Pukszta said. “It’s a vital connection to City Hall’s Small Business Center, the local Polish-American community and other resources designed to help business grow.” PACC and the other business organizations named as Neighborhood Business Development Centers coordinate efforts with local aldermen, the city and other community partners to implement the city’s neighborhood small business growth strategy. The centers help businesses with information about particular neighborhoods and starting a new small business. They connect businesses to financial resources, employment and workforce development assistance and consumer marketing. “Some of the trends and challenges we face are common to those faced by businesses throughout the metropolitan area,” Pukszta said. These include credit and capital limitations, building and space vacancy, regulatory demands,

Corporate Office 2480 S. Wolf Road Des Plaines, IL 60018 847-257-0990

environmental concerns and transportation issues. But, he added, awareness of Chicago programs and services often is lower among Polish immigrants than among other immigrant and ethnic groups. “The PACC can help level the playing field by providing information about local City of Chicago programs for entrepreneurs and small business owners in the Polish community to help them grow and create new jobs.”

SPANNING THE ATLANTIC “Poland’s stature has grown on the world economic stage and we are an active participant driving bilateral trade relationships between the U.S. and Poland,” Pukszta said. As one of the most rapidly developing countries in Europe, Poland is one of the fastest-growing exporters in the world. The PACC is actively engaged in promoting and helping Polish businesses establish their presence in Chicago and in the U.S. by planning and organizing trade missions and business-related events to help raise awareness of commercial and investment opportunities in Chicago. Capitalizing on Poland’s economic growth, PACC and member companies also are able to offer business services such as trade and export financing or consulting to Polish companies seeking an entrée to the U.S. market via Chicago. Additionally, Pukszta noted, local companies interested in international expansion can gain a deeper understanding of the Polish market by developing relationships with the Polish government, Polish trade organizations, industrial, science and technology parks, research and development corridors, and Polish universities.
