Our mission at the Westlake Chamber of Commerce is to educate, connect and mobilize member businesses in the greater Westlake area while supporting our local residents and businesses. We hope that this guide will provide you with some insight into all that we love about our community.

issues, educational and networking events that help our members grow their business and much more. We make it our goal to help our members succeed. This publication would not be possible without the support of our many business members. The busi-nesses listed in this new directory represent our members who invest their dollars in the future of the Westlake area through their membership in the Westlake Chamber of Commerce.

In addition, the Chamber is always looking for new ways to add value for our membership. We offer informative and timely programs on critical business

A

s growth exploded on the West bank of the Colorado River, businesses in West Lake Hills and Rollingwood needed an organization to address the issues and challenges facing their communities. On June 29, 1995, over lunch at the Time Out for Burgers restaurant, members of the Eanes Business and Professional Association decided to form a new organization. Those 20 members voted to form the Westlake Chamber of Commerce, to be a platform where businesses could address issues of safety, crime, and economic growth, and most importantly to foster a sense of community and camaraderie. On July 5, the first meeting of the then 50 volun-

2,000 directories and maps printed bi-annually and fully accessible on the Chamber website.

the Westlake Golf Classic, the Westie Awards, Wonderfest and the Westlake 4th of July Parade.

MONTHLY AND SPECIAL EVENTS: Business-to-business opportunities abound for companies that be-come involved in the Westlake Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber’s variety of events includes monthly breakfast, lunch and after-hours meetings along with annual events – including (but not limited to)

MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE: Your investment in the Westlake Chamber is a sound business decision, good for your business and good for the area. If you join the Chamber and are not satisfied for any reason, we will refund your investment. All that is required is your attendance at no less than four functions during the first 120 days of membership.

OUR HISTORY teers was held to adopt by-laws and select the first set of officers. By the time the new chamber held its first fundraiser in October, its membership had grown to 110. Attended by local politicians and celebrities, this first Gala established the Westlake Chamber, not just as the voice of area businesses, but as the voice of the Westbank community.

The Chamber quickly addressed topics like: The construction of The Village at Westlake Shopping Center, the widening of Bee Cave Road and many other issues of the time. Ribbon cuttings and Businesses of the Month Awards promoted Westbank commerce, while monthly luncheons featured local police and fire chiefs, the school superintendent and government leaders as speakers.

Now, 20 years later, the Chamber continues to foster community and camaraderie, still holding monthly luncheons, an annual awards gala and community forums, but now also hosting monthly business builder lunches and breakfasts, ribbon cuttings, networking happy hours, a leadership academy, quarterly humanitarian efforts, annual golf tournaments, 4th of July parades and the Westlake Wonderfest. All the while, still being the voice of concerned community members and businesses on the West bank of the Colorado River. Ready to lead the residents of West Lake Hills, Rollingwood and West Travis County, WE are proud members of The Westlake Chamber of Commerce. www.westlakechamber.com | 9

DINING AND SHOPPING

T

he Westlake area mix of restaurants and merchants is comprised of traditional independently owned, as well as notable franchises. One of the best ways to experience our wonderful community is through the local food scene. Whether you want to sit down to an elegant meal or grab a bite on the run, you’ll find the Westlake area dining choices to be plentiful, varied, and most importantly, delicious! Well-established full-kitchen restaurants all reflect the pride of their owners. Additionally, family-focused dining options, many also owned by local residents, add a special “buy local and support each other” feel. And, after your meal, there is no shortage of satisfying your sweet tooth. In addition to shopping at one of the regions

premier indoor malls, Westlake features several open-air retail centers where local merchants offer goods and services ranging from jewelry, electronics, appliances, home improvement, office supplies and mailing services, fashion and accessories and much more. Whatever your desires or needs, you’re in for a first-class shopping experience compliments of the Westlake businesses.

RESIDENTIAL LIVING

AR LA 20

S

ituated just west of downtown Austin, the area known as Westlake is a perfect fit for those wanting to enjoy a more rural lifestyle but not stray too far from the city’s urban core. Known for its rolling hills, close proximity to the lake and the award-winning Eanes ISD, the Westlake area is desirable for both families and single executives alike. The incorporated cities of West Lake Hills and Rollingwood work to maintain the rural atmospheres established in the 1950s with businesses tucked along tree-lined streets and where signage and artificial lighting is kept to a minimum. The Westlake neighborhoods of Lost Creek, Barton Creek and the hilltop communities on Mt. Larson with their panoramic views of Lake Austin and the downtown skyline offer a relaxing lifestyle in a close-knit community. While some of the region’s most expensive waterfront and resort-style homes can be found in the communities of Rob Roy, Barton Creek, Davenport Ranch, Westview, West Rim, Austin Country Club and Barton Creek Resort, there are also many neighborhoods in the greater Westlake area with price points as diverse as the residents. New custom homes in a variety of architectural styles often sit next to mid-century bungalows in neighborhoods with greenery and beautiful landscaping. For those wanting to rent, luxury apartment buildings can be found along the Capital of Texas Highway along with duplex and condominium units throughout the area. Living in the Westlake area provides residents with a cozy small-town, rural feel, with the bonus of being located only minutes away from downtown Austin.

ENTERTAINMENT & RECREATION

W

estlake offers a variety of entertainment and recreation options fit for the entire family. Nestled west of Austin in the rolling hills, the terrain provides some exceptional opportunities for hiking adventures along the Barton Creek Greenbelt or in the 227 acres of forest and trails in the Wild Basin Creative Research Center. The hills of Westlake also present one of the most spectacular scenic overlooks of downtown Austin. Located less than two miles north of Bee Cave Road, the overlook is on the east side of Capital of Texas Highway/Loop 360 and provides ample parking. Whether you’re looking for some quite time, artistic inspiration or a phenomenal backdrop for a family portrait, this spot won’t disappoint.

one of the area’s premier venues. Another opportunity to take in live performances is at the Westlake Community Performing Arts Center at Westlake High School. The state-of-the-art facility hosts year-round performances including the annual Nutcracker Spectacular and is a rental house as well as a place for students of Westlake High School to showcase their talents.

sion fee, the entire family can soak in the sun and enjoy a full day of play. You can test your skills on the volleyball court or horseshoe pit, grill out using the BBQ grills and picnic tables, and cool off in the swimming area. If peace and quiet is more your style, there is a dedicated area for fishing. The park does rent out for private parties, so be sure to call ahead to ensure it’s open.

If you’re looking to learn more about the history of the Eanes Community here in the Westlake area, you will find it at the Eanes History Center. Located in the Old Rock School House in the middle of the Eanes Elementary School campus, the Center has many exhibits that archive the history of this long-standing community.

For live music and the performing arts, One World Theater is a stunning venue with panoramic hill country views and an intimate theater setting with only 300 seats. With its mission to educate and in-spire children and adults with innovative and exciting multicultural arts and entertainment programs, One World Theater is

Another gem of the Westlake community is West Lake Beach, a seasonal recreational area that has been providing fun for residents since 1954. The beach is a privately owned park on Lake Austin, but it’s open to the public for spectacular summer fun from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day weekend. With a small admis-

In addition to the above, the Westlake area features the area’s finest golf courses including Lost Creek Country Club, Austin Country Club and Barton Creek Country Club. Speaking of the finer things in life, Hotel Granduca Austin, reminiscent of a private Italian villa, is the area’s only luxury hotel. The hotel continues the tradition of exceptional service, fabulous suites, splendid dining and luxurious amenities. Being so close to downtown Austin, you are not more than 10 minutes away from the variety of entertainment, museums, nightlife, parks and so much more that Austin has to offer.

WESTBANK LIBRARIES

estbank Libraries were formed at the hands of community members and have always very much belonged to the community. We offer two welcoming spaces – the recently renovated Westbank Community Library and the Laura Bush Community Library (2009). Our statistics are evidence of how much we are embraced by the community and how hard we try to meet community needs. Our collection of 100,000 items has a checkout rate of 600,000 per year, our thousand programs per year are attended by 25,000 people, and we have 300,000 visitors per year at our two locations. Our libraries and resources are well-used, and we are gratified by the involvement of a community that donates 15,000 volunteer hours and 75,000 books each year.

nicking or playing chess, a community garden, the Madrone Canyon Trail, a book sale room, quiet spaces and meeting rooms. We also have a very smart, very helpful staff who can assist you with just about any question you have!

Haven’t been to a library in a while? You might be surprised at what you will find. We have films, audios, magazines and newspapers. We have downloadable books, magazines, and databases. We have digital resources for learning languages, getting legal information, learning software and practicing for the SAT. We have discovery spaces for children, backyards for pic-

Visit the library for reading recommendations and help with research or figuring out your latest device. Join us for programs, including story times, parenting, crafting, computer help, yoga and genealogy. Our libraries are active in the community and are open to partnering with other community groups and area businesses. We welcome community ideas for our collections and programs.

EDUCATION

N

estled in the hills of western Travis County, Eanes ISD and its nine campuses are committed to achieving excellence in academics, extra and co-curricular activities and preparing students with the tools to succeed at the next grade level and beyond. Preparation for academic success is a joint effort between high-quality staff, student effort, deeply involved parents, a supportive community and edu-cational foundation, and a curricular focus that promotes collaboration between teachers at all levels. Meeting each student’s needs is the goal in Eanes ISD. A comprehensive curriculum and a variety of enrichment opportunities are offered to Eanes ISD’s students, including proudly serving as a 1:1 mobile device district. The District also has a comprehensive Adult Transition

Services program, which supports young adults with special needs during their transition from post-high school to the real world. The program focuses on assisting these young adults in developing vocational and independent living skills. The District and all nine campuses consistently achieve the highest ratings by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), including earning distinctions in specific areas at the campus and district level. Seven of the nine campuses have been recognized as U.S. Blue Ribbon Schools, including Eanes Elementary that was honored in 2005. As the flagship college preparatory high school, Westlake High School holds a national reputation for excellence and is included on the nation’s best high school lists by Newsweek and U.S. News. Eanes students score well on the Scholastic Aptitude Test

(SAT) and American College Test (ACT), consistently exceeding the state and national averages. On average, approximately 99 per-cent of Eanes ISD’s graduates are accepted directly into college. Eanes ISD serves approximately 8,000 students at nine schools, listed below.

HEALTH CARE

ealth care in Westlake has kept up with technology providing residents with access to quality medical attention. Sandwiched between a world-class hospital and a state-of-the-art medical center with an urgent-care facility in between, the residents of the Westlake community have plenty of access to quality health care. You and your family’s health are in good hands in Westlake. In addition to a large number of professionals at all levels of medical, vision and dental care, area residents have access to a variety of medical specialties throughout the Westbank area. Bee Cave Road boasts access to three of the area’s premier senior-living facilities. There are over 300 establishments dedicated to health care and social assistance. One of the advantages of being Austin’s closest suburb is the mentality and openness to alternative medicine. East meets west in this health care haven. Residents understand the importance of routine care and preventative medicine and the medical community embraces this progressive attitude.

The Westlake health care community welcomes you and your family and takes great
