Wilcox County is located in West Central Alabama between the State Capital of Montgomery and Mobile. Major roadways include Alabama Highways 5, 10, 28 and 41. In addition, Interstate 65 is 20 miles East of Wilcox County and U.S. Highway 43 is only 4 miles West of the County. These both provide quality access to goods and services for industry located in Wilcox County. The Wilcox County Industrial Development Authority was founded in 2003 in order to improve the quality of life for Wilcox County citizens by creating jobs through the recruitment of new industry and the expansion of existing industry. In addition, the Authority coordinates and partners with the Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce in assisting with commercial and retail business as well as promoting tourism and recreational activities in Wilcox County. The Wilcox County Industrial Authority presently owns and manages two industrial parks in our County. Working to improve Wilcox County one job at a time. The Thomasville-West Wilcox Industrial Park is 4 miles from U.S. Highway 43, a four-lane U.S. highway to Mobile, Alabama. This park is currently home to the newly built Golden Dragon Copper USA, Inc., the world’s largest manufacturer of precise copper tubing for the heating and air conditioning industry. Golden Dragon Copper constructed an approximately 500,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in the park with an investment of $110,000,000.00 and employs 300 workers. Additional sites are available in this park as well as the immediate surrounding area. In addition to these physical assets, Wilcox County can offer a dedicated workforce for new and existing industry. This area is home to several public and private schools as well as being served by Alabama-Southern Community College with two campuses only minutes away. Wilcox Works, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has also developed to create a trained workforce and coordinate all of the available local, State and Federal programs to develop a “one stop shop” in order to meet the training needs of local industry. This effort is supported by the Wilcox County Industrial Development Authority, The Wilcox County Commission, The City of Camden, The Town of Pine Hill, The Town of Pine Apple, The Town of Oak Hill, The Town of Yellow Bluff, the Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce, Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission, the Alabama Department of Commerce, Alabama Power Company, Alabama Industrial Development Training and the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama so that we can provide prospective industry with the best atmosphere to create jobs in Wilcox County as well as make a healthy profit for the company.

ilcox County was created by an act of the Alabama legislature on December 13, 1819. It was formed from portions of Dallas and Monroe counties, which were created from Creek Indian lands acquired by the United States in the 1814 Treaty of Fort Jackson. Most of the earliest settlers came from Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee. The historical significance of Wilcox County is inherent in the county’s name. In 1814 Lieutenant Joseph M. Wilcox, a young West Point graduate, found himself far from home along the banks of the Alabama River embroiled in a battle with warriors from a local Indian tribe. During the fierce fight, the young lieutenant received a fatal wound, eventually dying in his beloved new home. Residents of the area remembered their adopted son by naming the county Wilcox. Just one day older than the State of Alabama, Wilcox County is still alive and well.

McWilliams The present-day unincorporated town of McWilliams in Alabama’s Wilcox County has ties to one of the most famous singers in the history of music – Hank Williams, Sr. Hank himself lived there for a brief time; in 1927, when Hank was just 10 years old, his family moved to McWilliams. However, McWilliams is perhaps more famously known as the burial place of Hank’s father, Elonzo Huble Williams. Elonzo, or “Lon,” was buried at Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery following his death in 1970. Hank tragically died in 1953 at the age of 29, but not before leaving behind a legacy of music. Williams recorded a total of 35 singles that would place in the Top 10 of the Billboard Country & Western Best Sellers.

settlement originally called Arnold, the town was incorporated as Pine Hill, Alabama, in 1895. Pine Hill is located in western Wilcox County. Three of the major State highways---Nos. 5, 10, and 25---all intersect in Pine Hill. We are located on two major railroads, the Norfolk-Southern and the Alabama & Gulf Coast. And, we are only a few miles from the Alabama River.
We are proud to be the home of an International Paper Company mill and the new GD Copper (USA) Inc. plant. Many other wood-products businesses are also located here. We are wideopen for business. Real estate is still a good value and industrial sites are available. Local government is dedicated to exploring opportunities to enhance the quality of life for residents in a safe and secure setting. We have outstanding police and fire departments with dedicated and trained personnel. We are proud of our local elementary school and the nearby Alabama Southern Community College. We are pleased to point out a few of the things we have that are normally not found in towns our size: • Diverse worship opportunities • Nutrition/Senior Center • Three parks with playground equipment, picnic facilities, tennis courts, covered pavilion, and an asphalt lighted walking track • Library with a computer center • Depot Museum, where you can share our memories and reflect on our heritage. Pine Hill is a great family destination. We pride ourselves on our ‘southern hospitality.’ In fact, our Town’s motto is “where friendliness is a tradition.”
Located between Alabama’s two largest rivers and surrounded by forests and fields teeming with wildlife, Pine Hill offers an abundance of outdoor activities with enough hunting and fishing to fulfill any sportsman’s dreams. Pine Hill encourages you to make yourself at home: tour our museum, visit our library, and use our parks to visit with nature and enjoy our outdoor recreational facilities. We have special events throughout the year and invite our citizens, families, and friends to come out and enjoy the good food, good fun, and good fellowship. While visiting, consider the benefits of living in a small town: no traffic problems, caring and friendly neighbors, relaxed and healthy lifestyle, walkability, diverse volunteer options, etc. We offer ‘good country living,’ with all of the big-city infrastructure and services. Anchored by its past, Pine Hill is also focused on the future---and would love to share it with you! Please visit, enjoy, relax, renew---then relocate!

ilcox County is second only to Mobile County in the number of antebellum homes and structures still standing. The towns of Camden, Furman, Pine Apple and Oak Hill have been designated National Historic Districts as a testament to this fact. Most of the historic homes feature
the Plantation Plain, Carolina Cottage, Federal or Greek Revival styles. Many of these homes have been purchased by persons living outside Wilcox County as second or vacation homes. The prices are a fraction of what a similar home would cost in Mobile, and property taxes are some of the lowest in Alabama.
