HOME BUILDING NEWS 2024
Smith’s Scoop By Executive Vice President/CEO Jeffrey Smith
Dear Members, As we approach the close of 2024, I want to take a moment to reflect on the remarkable accomplishments we’ve achieved together this year. The Tulsa Home Builders Association’s mission to empower the success of our members and make a lasting impact on our community has never been more evident. One of the highlights of 2024 has been our engagement with local schools, exemplifying our commitment to fostering the next generation of professionals in the building industry. Our efforts have strengthened partnerships with area schools, providing students with invaluable handson experiences and exposure to potential career paths. In October, the Build My Future event hosted 784 high school students in Tulsa, while the Claremore event in December welcomed 150 students. These events offered participants a glimpse into the dynamic construction world, featuring interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, and opportunities to engage directly with industry professionals. Seeing so many young minds ignited with enthusiasm for building their futures was inspiring.
Our outreach didn’t stop there. At Nathan Hale High School, our guidance and support benefited 120 students enrolled in construction courses. In November, we had the privilege of hosting 25 students at the Designer Showcase House, giving them a firsthand look at the craftsmanship and creativity that define our industry. Similarly, at Union High School, 280 students engaged in construction education, with several advancing to specialized electrical and HVAC training programs. Broken Arrow High School also saw the start of 120 students in constructionfocused classes, with promising progress as they near the completion of their first semester. These initiatives underscore the power of collaboration and our critical role in shaping tomorrow's workforce. By investing in education and outreach, we’re inspiring future builders and strengthening our industry's foundation.

Ryal School Christmas Party: Building Community Through Generosity The Tulsa Home Builders Association’s annual Ryal School Christmas Party embodies our mission: Empowering the success of our members as the professional resource for housing in our community. This cherished tradition, celebrated for over 40 years, demonstrates the impact our members make both in their industry and beyond. Ryal Public School serves approximately 75 students, many of whom face significant economic challenges, with 100% qualifying for free or reduced lunch. This event brings the magic of the holiday season to these deserving children through a shopping trip, a pizza lunch, gifts, and entertainment. None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our sponsors. Cobblestone Homes, Inc., as the Presenting Sponsor, led the way in making the celebration unforgettable. Our Gold Sponsors—Generator Supercenter, Oklahoma Natural Gas, Renaissance, Inc., and Yorktown Builders, LLC—helped bring holiday joy to the students. Thanks to our Lunch Sponsors—A&A Asphalt, Inc., Brian D. Wiggs Homes, Builders Firstsource, FamilySAFE, and Homes by Classic Properties— students enjoyed a festive meal shared with friends

Building Futures: Fall School Visits Inspire Students to Explore Construction Careers This fall, the Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa proudly supported initiatives to introduce high school students to the diverse opportunities within the construction and housing industries. With visits to Union Innovation Lab, Broken Arrow High School, and the 2025 Designer Showcase, students gained handson experience and insight into careers that shape our communities. At Union High School, 280 students were enrolled in construction courses, ranging from foundational level one classes to advanced level two programs. These students showcased their eagerness to learn by participating in activities that provided a glimpse into real-world construction practices. A highlight of the Union program was the involvement of students in the OSU-IT Electrical and HVAC Program, which allows students to further specialize and build skills applicable in the field. Broken Arrow High School welcomed 120 students into its construction classes this year. Beginning their journey on August 14, students have been diligently working to develop skills in shop class, with completion anticipated after the holiday break. The commitment of these students reflects the growing interest and recognition of the potential in construction careers. The fall also featured two highly successful Build My Future events—one at Tulsa Tech and another in Rogers County. In Tulsa, 784 high school students participated in interactive demonstrations, including masonry, carpentry, and welding, providing a hands-on understanding of the trades. In Rogers County, 150 students explored similar opportunities in a more localized setting, showcasing the industry’s accessibility and importance in smaller communities. A standout experience this season was the visit of 25 students from Nathan Hale High School to the 2025 Designer Showcase House. Touring this exceptional home, students explored innovative designs and learned from industry professionals about the planning, creativity, and precision involved in crafting luxury homes. Through these initiatives, the Tulsa HBA continues to inspire the next generation of builders, remodelers, and trade professionals, fostering a pipeline of talent that will sustain and advance the local housing industry for years to come.
