Designer Showcase 2020 3442 S. ATLANTA PLACE
W
e are incredibly thankful for our long-standing partnership with TulsaPeople Magazine, which recognizes the designers and their incredible work, as well as the vendors and sponsors that make Designer Showcase possible every year. It was with a heavy heart that we made the difficult decision to cancel the public, ticketed portion of the 2020 Designer Showcase. The health and safety of our designers, volunteers, employees and broader community was the top priority during the rapidly changing events surrounding the COVID-19 situation. However, thanks to the generosity of TulsaPeople, we are excited to still creatively bring this event — and the efforts of so many individuals — to life. The Foundation for Tulsa Schools relies on Designer Showcase to help achieve its mission of building a better community through the support of Tulsa Public Schools. While the cancellation will certainly put a strain on the organization, we are hopeful the community will find a way to support the event virtually by visiting designershowcasetulsa.com. Additionally, be on the lookout for a “Designer Dash Warehouse Sale” later this year as a way to support the talented designers and the Foundation for Tulsa Schools. Thank you all for supporting the Foundation for Tulsa Schools and the 2020 Designer Showcase. We will no doubt be back in 2021 better than ever! — 2020 DESIGNER SHOWCASE COMMITTEE

ENTRY
KITCHEN
Choose a color scheme from the largest pattern in the space. For a neutral wall paint color, look to the pattern’s whites and beiges.
Your kitchen is the heart of your home, and it should be adaptable. Design for your needs and for your living habits. Never follow design trends. They don’t stand the test of time.

DINING ROOM
LAUNDRY ROOM
When contemplating doing a room with dark colors, remember dark walls actually make rooms feel larger rather than smaller, as the room’s corners disappear.
Never compare your home to someone else’s. Your home should be unique to you. A perfect mix of the things, colors and people you love.

LIVING ROOM
PUBLIC BATH
Consider a mirror — the ultimate design chameleon. Mirrors add instant glamour, light and the illusion of spaciousness. Perhaps their best trait: They naturally adopt the color palette of any space.
Mixing an heirloom cabinet, modern sofa and 1950s coffee table? Achieve this eclectic look with a common color scheme, layering textures and fabrics, and clustering tchotchkes from multiple eras.

GALLERY HALL
WET BAR
A room is all about the art. Trending fabrics, wall coverings and paint will become yesterday’s trends, but a painting will last a lifetime.
Pick up pieces of art on your travels. While putting color into your home, you’re also creating a visual memory album that can be shared with everyone.

NORTH CORRIDOR
Invest in art you love. It can single-handedly transform any space. To create the highest impact, buy big and hang low.
Paint walls and ceilings the same color unless going with a bold contrast. This makes the space cohesive and feel larger while letting the trim pop.

WINE ROOM
POWDER BATH
Wine storage can be anywhere. Convert a bookshelf or console. For a climate-controlled environment, add a refrigeration/humidity system to a closet or under-stair space.
Mixing old architecture with contemporary art, or adding an antique piece to a modern space, will give a home that layered warmth we love.

STUDY
BEDROOM HALL
Use the “57-inch rule” when hanging art or a mirror by placing the center point of the framed piece 57 inches from the floor. It places the image at an ideal level.
The best design has the look and feel of the homeowner without looking intentional. Adding modern accessories adds essential freshness without costly makeovers.

WATER CLOSET
EAST BEDROOM
Blend traditional design elements with current trends to create a fresh look. Here we chose scenic black-and-white wallpaper mixed with acrylic and brass sconces.
Scale and proportion help create a stylish, livable space. When choosing accessories, go with large, impactful pieces. Smaller accessories often get lost in the design or create a sense of clutter.

Think in layers. Sofa, pillows, rug, lighting, art; each adds a new layer and more interest. Mixing textures and patterns also creates a dynamic space.
When looking for art, find something from a local artist. You want it to be a focal point in your space, but also be special to you personally.
