Have parties died down?

Bath students may be toning down the noise at house parties and pre-drinks – either that or their neighbours are complaining less. A freedom of information request submitted by The University Paper revealed noise complaints logged by the University of Bath and Bath Spa University have fallen between the academic years of 2010-11 and 2015-16. The two institutions received 57 complaints combined in 2010-11 but this dropped to just 38 in 2015-16. The most complaints in a single year was at Bath Spa in 2013-14, with a total of 44 gripes, two of which were about parties. The least grievances were made in 201415 to Bath Spa – a total of 13, with one regarding a house party. Despite the decrease in complaints, some neighbours still are not pleased with the noise some students make. In the Streets Of Shame Bath Facebook group, Margaret Ramsey said: ‘It’s late night when the problems start. If only they would just stop and think, the area would be much happier.’ A University of Bath spokesperson said: ‘We work closely with Bath Spa University and Bath and North Somerset Council through the Student Community Partnership to foster good relations with the local community and deal with concerns.’
