YOU can’t deny it – these two are an unlikely pair to be sharing a stage. But, thankfully, Prof Helen Atkinson CBE left the rapping to The Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am when they met at the Global Grand Challenges Summit in Beijing. Prof Atkinson, who heads up the University of Leicester’s engineering department, joined forces with the musician to discuss the challenges caused by a gap in engineering skills.
A RUGBY team have paid tribute to one of their former members after he was killed in a suspected hit-and-run. The University of Leicester rugby union squad praised ‘pivotal’ Dan Hickey, who was struck in his home town of Bristol. An online statement read: ‘As a club, we want to first and foremost share our condolences with his family and friends. ‘Dan was pivotal during his time at uni and has helped make this club what it is today. ‘He will always be remembered as a Boy in Maroon and White. RIP Hickey. You’ll be sorely missed.’ The team also released a Facebook album of pictures of the management graduate’s time with ULRFC.
