The Pro Life Society at Liverpool did not receive the warmest of welcomes – a petition to shut it down was created days after it was ratified by the guild of students at the end of last year. However, the petition was removed by the guild and Pro Life Soc recently hosted its first event. TUP reporter Amy Harding, who went along, gives us her account... I had not been at the Pro Life Society’s meeting long when I

heard a speaker compare abortion to ‘beheading a baby’. The event was attended by both pro-life and pro-choice supporters and, there were a few occassions when the discussion got heated. Katriana Ciccotto, who started the campaign against the society, was at the event and admitted submitting the petition out of ‘complete and utter frustration’. debate. She framed abortion as a human rights issue and claimed contraception increased the rate of abortion. Unsurprisingly, some questioned the evidence given during the talk. Katriana, vice president of the pro-choice society, said: ‘I felt like I had set foot in a time machine back to the 1920s.’ After the talk, members were allowed to ask questions.
