A distraught childhood friend has penned a song in memory of ‘good hearted’ Danielle McLaughlin, who was murdered in Goa. Paul Caldwell wrote The Fire Of Hope (A Song for Danielle McLaughlin), in honour of the former Liverpool John Moores University student. He will donate all proceeds from the single’s release to a fund set up to get justice for Danielle, who was found dead near
a tourist resort in Goa on March 14. She had been out celebrating the Holi festival with friends the night before, TheSun.co.uk reported. A 23-year-old local man, named as Vikat Bhagat, has been charged with Danielle’s murder and will also face rape charges, according to the BBC. But the family’s lawyer believes Bhagat did not act alone and Danielle, 28, was gang raped by around four men. It is hoped hiring a legal team will uncover exactly what happened.
Paul, who is living in Canada, told TUP: ‘I’ve known Danielle from primary school – I can’t remember actually meeting her but we’ve just always known each other. ‘I know Danielle loved music, our whole group of friends had a love of music. ‘We all went to festivals in Ireland together and would share bands, DJs and other artists.’ The musician said he wrote the song to help him come to terms with Danielle’s death. ‘I felt Continued on Page 3
