A report which exposes racial bias at SOAS, University of London, has received mixed reactions from students and lecturers. The Degrees Of Racism report, released by SOAS students’ union, surveyed 299 anonymous black and minority ethnic undergraduates and concluded a number of factors impact
the learning and achievement of BME students. The report criticised the ‘whiteness’ of the curriculum at the institution and the underrepresentation of BME students and staff, a factor said to affect students’ mental health and their ability to achieve.
