An army of volunteers has been recruited to patrol club nights and protect students from sex attacks. The specially trained ‘club crews’ have been recruited by students’ unions in Swansea, working with the charity Drinkaware and the police, to help those vulnerable to assaults and harassment at student nights. The scheme has been set up in
response to three women being sexually assaulted within five days of each other during freshers’ last year. In an attempt to stop similar attacks, the student volunteers will talk to partygoers, check high risk areas such as toilets and stairwells and ensure people leave safely after closing.
