Tributes have been paid to ‘gentle’ Reverend Nigel John, Swansea University’s senior chaplain, who has passed away. Friends and colleagues paid their respects to him, praising his good nature and dedication. Rev Leslie Jane Noon, who worked with Father Nigel for three years at Swansea, told The University Paper: ‘He was very gentle and he had a good sense of humour,’ adding: ‘He could talk for Wales!’
Father Nigel, who was almost always addressed as Nigel, was instrumental in setting up the Theology Public Lecture Programme at Swansea University, which Rev Noon said was the role he was probably most proud of. He also committed himself to voluntary work throughout his life helping at night shelters and serving at a hospital for elderly patients. A statement released by Swansea said: ‘It is with great sadness that the university has learned of the death of our dear friend and colleague, the

university’s senior chaplain, Rev Nigel John. ‘Nigel was tireless in his dedication to the role, and in his service to the university. ‘He will be remembered for setting up the Theology Public Lecture Programme at the university, which has featured internationally respected Church leaders and world-renowned academics. ‘Nigel will be greatly missed by staff and students. Our thoughts at this time are with his wife Trish and their family.’
