Museums, focal points of culture
Within the Bilbao Art District art is lived and breathed. With each step a different museum proposes a singular cultural experience. The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao enables visitors to enjoy important international contemporary art exhibitions and to immerse themselves in the incomparable building designed by Frank Gehry. Five minutes away on foot, Bilbao Fine Arts Museum is noteworthy for its exceptional exhibitions of paintings within the Spanish and Flemish schools, along with a large presence of Basque artists. Not to be missed. The Sala Rekalde art gallery houses the most contemporary examples of artistic production, employing different working formats: exhibitions, isolated projects for the presentation of works, discussion sessions, video screenings, conferences and publications. Continuing along the bank of the estuary, the Ría de Bilbao Maritime Museum pays homage to the city’s shipping tradition, conserving and disseminating the history, culture and identity of the men and women who lived on and off the Ría de Bilbao. 10
