Since June 2014, Samuel Lambert has been supported by the staff at Midpoint in Hertfordshire, one of Turning Point’s residential services that supports individuals recovering from serious mental health difficulties.
Before I came to Midpoint I was very anxious and suicidal. I moved a lot before coming to Midpoint. The last place I lived at was my Auntie’s for one week and I was very anxious. I had suicidal thoughts every day and was cutting myself. The panic attacks were very bad. I could not get to the local shop which was only down the road.
I was referred to Midpoint by my care-coordinator to see what daily living skills I could do and not do for myself.
I think the most important thing that helps me is going to group meetings and socialising with others.
During the step-down process for the first two weeks I thought Turning Point was not right for me until I realised that I was getting closer to recovering and the panic attacks were becoming less and less frequent. Midpoint have helped me so far by getting me out to the doctors and to the shops and one of the many things Midpoint have helped me with is to start losing weight.I was on the road to recovery half way through the step-down process so that would be a week into Midpoint. I was able to identify that I was getting better because I was attending groups and socialising. I think the most important thing that helps me is going to group meetings and socialising with others.

My keyworker is Neha Haurheeram and the best thing is she is good at listening to me.
There is so much to do; we have Art Group and Garden Group and Wellbeing Group and Writing Group.
She also helps me with my art work. Life at Midpoint is a rollercoaster of a ride. There is so much to do; we have Art Group and Garden Group and Wellbeing Group and Writing Group. There are a lot of nice people that live here and the staff are so friendly. During every day we have the rabbits and birds to feed and someday I would like to go to Tesco by myself.
I have noticed a lot of differences being at Turning Point.
Before Turning Point I was nervous, miserable and upset. Now I am happy, sociable and outgoing
My panic attacks have gone from a 10 to a 4 and my suicidal thoughts have gone from an 8 to a 1. I am more sociable with other clients playing pool. I have started gardening which helps me get out and about and I feed and look after the rabbits and birds. Turning Point is a life line charity. Before Turning Point I was nervous, miserable and upset. Now I am happy, sociable and outgoing. If I could give my past self a message I would have told myself a year ago to get help from the doctor a lot quicker and maybe I would have not got so bad with panic attacks and would have gone to college. Before Turning Point I was locked in my room and never went out due to my anxieties. Since being at Midpoint, I have gained more confidence in socialising and I rarely isolate myself in my room.

If Turning Point was not around, my life would be the same where the panic attacks were very bad. My future will be going back to work and to start a family with two kids and to volunteer my spare time at a charity like Turning Point.
