EXCAVATING THE SKIES
Небо – это универсальное место, заставляющее задумываться. Когда мы смотрим вверх, мы всегда видим слой, который считаем нейтральным. Но небо не беспристрастно. Изменения городов и ландшафтов всегда фильтруют отношение к небу, разрушение наших городов и ландшафтов также исходит от него. Небо может быть спокойным и опасным, но оно всегда здесь. «Социологическое» знание городов, истории и жителей привело нас к новому способу вмешательства, который считается не как другая необщительная масса, а наоборот: как фрагмент потоков, связей, программ и мероприятий. Вертикальный Скелет, который включает разрезы многих фрагментов истории, существующих в этом месте.
The sky is a universal place of wonder. When we remember to look up we always see a layer that we assume is neutral. Yet the sky isn't impartial. Cities and landscape transformations always filter our experience with it and the destruction of our cities and landscapes mostly comes from it. The sky is serene and violent but always there. A 'sociological' awareness of city, history, and residents leads us to this new method of intervention that does not read as another uncommunicative mass or a building on a pedestal but instead as fragments of flows, connections programs and activities. A vertical Skeleton that houses incisions of the various fragment of history existing on the site is introduced.

The proposed vertical skeleton works as an incubator of programs gradually plugged in. The spaces, the voids, the residents and the visitors form the new skyline of Kaliningrad. Romanticizing the past and dwelling on history are avoided. The aim is to create a timeless icon of an ever-changing present.
Занимая край участка и увеличиваясь вертикально, проект стремится сохранить многослойный участок в качестве свободного пространства, который пренебрегает местом, не занятым человеком. Occupying the edge of the site and growing vertically, the project intends to keep the multilayered site as a free field defying the pediment nonhuman space.
Местность создает ощущение запущенности и загадки, спрятанных в слоях прошлого, приглашая посетителей и прохожих изучить это пространство. The landscape holds a sense of roughness and mystery calling the hidden layers of the past inviting visitors and passersby’s to a discovery field. The house of soviet as much as the remains of the castle are pierced and form at moment’s part of the promenade. The search for a history is balanced by a structure of the present, growing with confidence into its own future. The limit is the sky.

Main architectural strategy As you approach the project from this level (+4.00) and you look up you realize your walk up to the sky and into the continuous future possibilities of the skyline transformations is an unwritten history made up of: Layers that exist before and after conflict (the ground/ rammed earth) Layers lost with buried traces (archeological dig) Layers visible that remain from the victor (house of soviets) Layers in between, the air
Проект делит все на три исторических исследования: Разрезы на земле: слои, которые были до и после конфликта (земля) Земля под фронтоном Дома Советов и под погребальными археологическими раскопками. План нижнего уровня, 4 метра высотой, соединяет город через площадь с карманами рыночных пространств и открытых площадей. Раздел земли отражен на дисплее в фоновом режиме, за структурной сеткой стены.
The project divides the whole circulation hub into three historical explorations: Incisions in the earth: Layers that exist before and after conflict (the ground) Layers that exist before and after conflict (the ground under the pediment of the house of soviets and under the buried archeological remains. The plan at the lower city level, at 4meters high, connects the city through a plaza with pockets of market spaces and open plazas. The earth section is exposed and on display in the background, behind the structural grid of the wall.

Incisions in the basements: Layers lost with buried traces (archeological dig) The main promenade near the Lower Lake with its picturesque walks connects to the project, under the street, at 11 meters, directly through as a series of shops and light wells, a series of bridges within the archeological digs, direct access to the parking at that level, and access to the house to the house of soviet basement which is now open to the sky with the slabs of the central space all removed. It becomes a large temporary exhibit space.

Incisions in the visible: Layers visible that remain from the victor (house of soviets) The plaza next to the House of the Soviets becomes the place for the city's infiltration through a series of pathways in the ground, in-between a hilly landscape and in the air above old and new digs. The House of the Soviets itself turns into an empty shell at the levels above the ground, with insertions of spaces that interrupt the void. The pediment is emptied, and open to the ground floor, exposing the structural and organizational grid of the building. The exposed basement becomes part of the temporary exhibition space. Sightseeing platform and panoramic views in and out of the building, stacks, and a restaurant invite the visitor into a reused space with a decaying skin.

Incisions in the skyline: Layers in between, the air The air is empty above the plaza. A series of communal and public programs intersect it. People overtake the emptiness and occupy the skyline. Yet wherever you arrive and whatever space you are in a sensation of floatation exists. You are a plug into a system of desires, stories, histories and futures. You are not in a container. You are in between moments and horizons. The system may continue to grow and house more plug-ins so that the space continues to evolve.

The Skeleton’s vertical circulation is divided into 4 cores An administrative core for personnel and government officials that is privatized but linked to all the excavation of the skies, in proximity to the drop-off zone and the parking entrance. A private hub that links the various flows in an enclosed vertical lobby and pedestrian pathways in the air to all the programs with controlled lobbies A public vertical hub that connects all the flows into the site to all the programs. It allows uncontrolled access to public and residual spaces as well as roofs and viewing points within the skeleton. A public vertical circulation that connects the flows to a railway and all the various programs through the house of Soviets and the injected programs there.

Multiple entrances, surprising encounters and various modes of vertical transportation (ramps, elevators, escalators and stairs) invite the city dwellers and visitors to the lake, the plaza, the house of soviets, the new program, the tram, and the sky.

Там основные транспортные улицы – ул. Шевченко, пр-т Московский и Ленинский пр-т будут превращены в дороги с 2-х сторонним движением, с небольшим транспортным потоком, однако будут включать в себя: метро и автобусные маршруты, которые будут напрямую, на всех уровнях соединяться со стеной скелетон.
The three main transport streets - the Shevchenko Street, and the Moscow and Lenin avenues will be turned into 2 lane roads, with slow traffic, but that include a tram and bus route that connect directly at the appropriate levels to the Skeleton wall.

We insist on refraining from taking down Trestle bridge but propose to improve it by adding broad sidewalks that connect directly to the skeleton wall and allow people to walk down and up through the project. This produce the circulation hub and structural and organizational hub of the project.

The urban setting A plan for each of the "district" towns has a proposed scenario of development ranging from regenerating the old town in accordance with the strict restoration program to large volumes with glass facades. The future urban setting maneuvers between new buildings and a form of historical stylization. According to the past competition a dense fabric is developed and recognized.

Finding roots of the existing, preserving and displaying parts as incisions in the program flows become intrinsic. Yet the display isn’t put in a museum but part of the circulation flows in and out of the skeleton circulation hub.
Существующие и отредактированные слои Дом Советов построен на высоте города. Власть и развитие города присущи человеческому развитию. Устранение этого является уничтожением истории, поэтому после принятия этого будем использовать по-новому. Площадь была когда-то двором, где улицы и люди сплетались в ткань города. Сеть дорог в виде мостов и резьбы в пейзаже будут иметь место. Город Кенигсберг был знаменит загадкой своих семи мостов: как пересечь их все, не ступая дважды ни на один из них. The existing and edited layers The House of the Soviets built by the victor on top of a city. Power and city development is an intrinsic part of human development. To remove that completely is also a destruction of history. We will recognize and reuse it. The plaza was once a courtyard were streets and people connected in the urban fabric. A network of pathways, in the form of bridges and carvings in the landscape, will overtake it. The city of Koenigsberg was, among other things, famous for its "seven bridges" riddle: how to cross them all without crossing a single one of them twice. Стадия The Phasing
Стадия 1 Строительство скелета и циркуляционного центра связывает и разделяет сети различных улиц и пешеходных потоков. Продуманы также стоянка для машин, сообщения с метро и автобусами и торговый центр. Дом Советов нашел новое применение вместе с окружающей площадью. Археологические раскопки начинаются: Старые обоснованы под стеклянной «коробкой», а новые раскопки начинаются. Скорость и наличие бюджета (инфраструктурного) могут подарить городу новый и уникальный опыт. Phase 1 The construction of the skeleton and the circulation hub connects and disconnects the various street networks and pedestrian flows. A parking, connection to metro, connect to bus system, connection to city residents is designed. The market and series of stores are built. The house of soviets is reused with its basement plaza. The archeological digs start (the old one is enclosed and a roof and a glass box and a new one starts). The dig for the event space in the courtyard of the old castle starts Speed and a basic infrastructural budget may produce by 2017 a new and unique experience of the city.
