Dallas-Fort Worth Dachshund Club represents DCA at the Dallas AKC Meet the Breeds Event

On June 25th and 26th, 2022 AKC held their Meet the Breeds at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in downtown Dallas, Texas. This was a well-attended public event requiring purchased tickets. Sandi Myers was selected by DCA Delegate, Larry Sorenson to coordinate the dachshund booth.

Despite some initial disorganization and minimal information from AKC (before the cancelled 2021 event), the 2022 event turned out to be a great opportunity for the public to meet our dachshunds and learn about the breed. Sandi Myers as the liaison, worked hard to make sure participants had as much information as possible, enough club members and dogs to staff our booth, pamphlets to hand out to the attendees and even a QR code to scan for more information about our clubs. DCA sent the logo tablecloth and documents to share with the public.

A couple of days leading up to the event, AKC requested dachshunds and some other breeds for the media promotions on 2 local TV channels.

There was great representation at each breed booth, as well as demonstrations in a large center ring by the Dog Training Club of Dallas County and other local training facilities in scentwork, rally, and obedience. There was an AKC logo merchandise sales area and a few other product vendors looking to attract more business from the dog fancy.

This event was definitely a marathon with exhibitors arriving early on both Saturday and Sunday and staying until the event closed at 4 pm each day. AKC provided lunch and free admission to exhibitors. DFWDC decided to cover parking charges for participating club members. A minimum number of dogs were required each day to receive the full stipend. We are proud to report we had 10 dachshunds (including one from Houston Dachshund Club’s, Nancy Colson while she manned the Whippet booth) each day to rotate on view.

We were proud to show off all three varieties and both sizes of well-mannered dogs. We had not only champions and multi-titled dogs, but a representative from our breed rescue who is a frosty-faced senior citizen spending the rest of his days in the lap of luxury. People lined up to pet the dogs and talk everything dachshund. There were many photos taken, a lot of stories shared about the attendees’ dachshunds and many questions asked and answered.
